| I am new here, and am looking at the LC lifestyle....again. I low-carbed about 5 years ago, and had some success. Then, my life got crazy and I completely fell off the wagon. I have been trying to lose weight ever since using a combination of do-it-yourself low-fat diets, and Weight Watchers. Nothing has worked, and it is very frustrating. My big thing is that I need to feel full, and I get bored easily. I also always worried about eating all of that fat! I am looking to maybe do a LC diet again that is lower in fat, and incorporates lots of fruits and veggies. I know there are some diets out there that do this...give you a good balance so to speak. I have about 130 lbs to lose. Any suggestions on different plans, and how to get started on this again? Robin |

| Hi Robin, Welcome to LCE! ![]() I would say the best thing to do, is research a few LC plans, like Atkins, SouthBeach, Protein Power, and perhaps The Zone. The internet is a very good resource to start with. Then after you narrow it down to say, maybe 2 plans that you think might fit your lifestyle, then get the books for those plans and read them. If you are short on $$$, the library or a used book store are good places to get the books. I totally hear your concerns on eating fat(s). But the body needs good fats like those found in fatty fish, olive oil and olives, nuts, and avacados. Personally, I have modified my LC plan to make it a little less in fats, but I still eat nuts, olive oils, fish. I try to trim the fat by choosing extra lean cuts of beef, and limiting my beef meals to 3 or 4 per week, and the same with eggs. As I said, this is just MY tweak for MY plan. Others here may strongly disagree, but everyone is different, I feel, and it's important to find a plan you can live with....forever...as in making it your lifestyle. Good luck on your journey to healthy eating and weight loss. Post often and let us know how you are doing, OK? ![]() hth

| Welcome, Robin. ![]() Shelley's right and different people have different approaches to fat in the diet. I'm very much an Atkins and Bernstein plan person, so I avoid no fat other than trans (hydrogenated) fat. There is an extensive discussion of the whole question of fat, saturated and otherwise, in the recent Gary Taubes book. It is an excellent source for all research on the topic. (and I hear it's out in paperback very soon.) Hope you'll make yourself at home here.

| Those who are iffy on fats are often happier on Southbeach. However, I'm in the "fats aren't an issue" for me camp because I lost my weight without watching them and without being hungry--something i could NOT say on any low-fat plan I've tried (i.e. most of them). The protein and fats really do help you feel full. Regardless of which path you choose, hope you find what works for you.
