Default Hello All!

Hi,

This is just the website I've needed! I've gone up and down in weight several times in the past 15 years. I'm only 5'4" and had success in the past with Atkins LC way of life. But, as a lot of us have done in the past - I stopped my way of life thinking it was okay to have a little of this or that, and whammo - now I have to change my way of life for good. I need to lose 30 or 40 pounds. My new doc says my fasting blood sugar was 125 and immediately put me on metformin (sp?). Wouldn't even give me a chance to try LC. I have to mention that I exercise like a maniac 5 x per week (cardio and weights) but food is the problem with me. I refuse to be medicated for the rest of my life (52 yrs old) if I can help it, so I'm baaaack-for good. DH is on the plan too. I've been testing my sugars each morning and definitely can see how eating certain foods affect me. Glad to have found you guys and appreciate any help and support.

Debbie. It will certainly help that your DH is going to follow the l/c lifestyle too. Each of us has a different wake-up call. For some the alarm keeps ringing and helps keep them on plan. For others, they hear the alarm and then for whatever reason it gets tuned out for some period of time. The alarm for me was high blood pressure. As I was successful in losing weight, my Dr. kept reducing my meds until I finally didn't need them any more. It sounds like your alarm is ringing loud and clear. I hope that by managing your diet you too will be able to eliminate the need for meds. Good luck.

Debbie, So glad you joined us!

man, that whole "little of this won't hurt" thing can get the best of us sometimes. i can't tell you how many times i've heard it (or said it). kudos for you for taking charge.

my "alarm" as henry says was similar to yours. doc said i was fasttracking to diabetes and i SO did not want to go there. thank god for low carb!

hope you enjoy yourself here and looking forward to getting to know you.

Welcome, Debbie.

I think you will find that, by paying close attention, you can learn to keep your BGL's in a good place by making good choices. I've been doing it for over 10 years now.

Hope you'll make yourself at home here.

p.s. you might also want to shop around for another doc.
