Headaches the first few days of Atkins is VERY normal, and usually an indication you're experiencing carb withdrawls. (I can't speak to whether or not you're strange in general, since I don't know you that well. Ha!)
It's usually better after the first week and then things get easier generally. LC is also GREAT for getting rid of cravings if you follow your plan. So I think you've made a good choice.
Please do get yourself a copy of the book to help you know what to expect and throughly understand the plan, though. People do MUCH better overall when they take the time to do this and learn their plan well.

Yes, low carb will help tremendously in controlling those cravings. And after the first few days, you'll start feeling a lot better.
