| Brandy- Welcome. It doesn't sound like you have selected a low carb plan. That's pretty much the starting point for a healthy, long-term relationship with a LC way of eating and will make a world of difference in your long term success. And yeah, 10 grams of carbs a day I would consider too restrictive. Atkins, which is one of the most restrictive plans, targets 20 grams of carbs a day, and current versions count total net carbs as carbs minus fiber from what you're eating. So I'd up the veggie intake definitely! Get yourself a copy of the Atkins or Protein Power book and read it, and you'll be much better prepared for the long-term view and finding a way not only to lose the weight, but keep it off forever. Confidence in the plan's ability to help you regulate your weight comes with time and experience. Many of us do continue to use caffeine and don't find it affects weightless, but it's definitely an individual issue. Ditching the sugar is the main thing. Caffeine is not nearly as much of problem for most people. I don't know anything about the medical problems your mom has-I'm SO not a doctor! -but hope she's feeling better soon! I would point out that Dr. Atkins was a cardiologist, and many doctors DO use LC as their eating plan of choice with heart issues. Of course, many docs still use low-fat diets for heart patients as well. Picking an eating plan is obviously a choice between your mom and whatever docs she selects. But I did want to refute the perhaps unintentional implication that LC could be responsible for her relapse. LC plans followed faithfully in my experience are one of the most healthy ways for people to eat, as I've seen evidence of, not only in my own life, but time and time again in the test results and reports from our members. If you decide to follow a LC plan for any length of time, spend some time here reading and posting and getting to know folks, and you'll be able to make some buddies along the way, I'm sure. Good luck to you and best wishes for Mom's recovery.

| Welcome, Brandy! I agree with everything Dixie said. Choose a plan, read the book, don't be afraid of veggies! Wishing you much success.

| I started LCE on Sunday. I am counting those carbs and following Atkins. It is pretty restrictive but if I have choices, I fear I will fall off the wagon... You can get a book at the library to get the plan down. I am not having nearly the caffeine I was having but I am drinking herbal decaf green, red and and white teas. Atkins was recommended to my Mom by her cardiologist. But this needs to be a lifestyle change. My sister who has 180 lbs to lose is using the 6 week body makeover. I am fortunate that I have only 35 but we all face that same struggle - why do we make poor choices? Why aren't we good to ourselves? Keep thinking of a healthier you - no heart disease, no joint dysfunction! God Bless Erica |

| Hi, I have been a migraine sufferer for 20 years. Restricking caf. definately triggers them. I have been successful with low carb dieting in the past. I too struggle with limited caf. I do have migraine medicine but I find it just as effective to use excedrine for migraines when I start this diet. I find that the caf. doesnt stop me from losing. It is just harder to get all my water in & still drink pop & coffee. I make myself drink a glass of H2O prior to all pop & coffee drinks. I hope your mom gets better. I am sorry to hear she is sick. I am always willing to give support. I am new here but not to the lifestyle. Good Luck with the headaches. They suck ![]() |

| Thanks everyone for there support and advice. I didn't do all that good yesterday, my stomach was in knots all day, i didn't eat only breakfast and then i finally ate dinner around 8 last night. I didn't eat much. So i pretty blew yesterday by not eating lunch. I got my walk in yesterday though. My mom has to have a cardioversion, where they shock her heart back into a normal rythem, That is to be none today sometime. My kids missed the bus this morning because i didn't get up to get them ready for school. We all overslept. I am not on the atkins, i'm following a diet that i had from a diet center here where i live, it's still low carb, i get my protein and my veggies but i also get fruits too, but only certain types of fruits. I lost 35 lbs on this one 7 yrs ago when i became pg with my son. I'm not crazy about fruits, so i really don't eat them. The only reason i haven't been eating my veggies is because when my dh cooks them he soaks them in to much butter lol, he's the cook, so i had to tell him to only put a small amount and not to overcook them, then i can eat them. I love broccolli, cauliflower, salads, etc. I've lost weight on lc, so i know i can do it again. I'm looking forwards to getting to know everyone on here. Everyone seems really nice and everyone has good advice, so i'm looking forward to a new way of eating.
