Hi everyone. I'm currently trying to lose 30 lbs. I decided the healthy way to go is low carb because I tend to have higher hemoglobin a1c's. Carbs really effect my energy level and moods. I'm sure everyone experiences an overload with carbs.

I'm not sure which plan to follow. Right now I've just given up sugar and white anything. Also going back to the gym tomorrow morning. I got a membership today.

Hope to get to know everyone.

Kit

Welcome, Kit! Glad to have you with us.

Once you settle on a plan, be sure to get the book. That helps SO much, and the people who do this tend to do much better overall. The most popular plans here are Atkins and Protein power, but there are lots of plans out there for sure. Look for the one that fits best into your life and see how it works out for you.

Good luck. We'll be here cheering you on!!

Welcome, Kelly!

It's really easier to stick to a low carb eating plan if you know how the plan works. Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, lovingly referred to here as DANDR, is a good start, and the Protein Power books by Michael and Mary Dan Eades are also extremely good to explain the science behind low carb. Even though I am not diabetic, I still like the information concerning low carb and diabetes, and thoroughly enjoy Dr. Bernstein's website devoted to diabetes and low carb. He is a type 1 diabetic who uses low carb to maintain his overall health. You can read his book online at his site. Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution. A Complete Guide to Achieving Normal Blood Sugars. Official Web Site

I wish you much success on your low carb journey.

Thank you ! I'm going to go out this weekend and get a couple books. I am "pre" diabetic. My hemoglobin a1c is always 5.9-6 . I really think that will lower if I get this eating under control.
At least hold the diabetes off for a few years

So far I've just watched my carb intake and I can see my belly go down quite a bit. I have a bit more energy, too. But I feel like I'm just winging it. So I will get a book and stick to a plan.

Have a great day, everyone!

Kelly

kelly, many of us (myself included) began low carbing to avoid diabetes, and many others have used it to keep their blood sugars under control and/or avoid the need for medications. i think you are definitely on the right track, and getting the facts on how to do this whole thing well will make a big difference, too. you'r on a good path here, and i believe you'll be pleased with the payoff for your efforts. so keep on doing it!
