Default I'm in

I have been lurking here for about a week. I need to learn more about the different plans and recipes. I did a low carb "diet" before ,but got sick of the monotony of what I could have. I did have success with it, and it jump started me to eating healthier. I am doing this for health reasons, I feel horrible with a "normal" diet. I get moody, tired and feel like as I get older my sensitivity to processed carbs is heightened. I am very physically active and many of my friends would think I was crazy not to fuel up with carbs. I do have to use some carbs especially when I have a long hard day, these are ussually fresh fruits, but aside from prefueling for a big day or event I need to come back to this way of eating. Ideally I would like to lose 5-6 lbs. From my experience before, this won't be hard. I just need to learn more about maintenance and recipes and would like to be part of this community to give and get the support I need.

welcome, d.j. - if you only have a small amount of weight you'd like to use and you're highly active, you may be interested in checking out the post-induction phase of a low carb plan.

i would suggest that you learn about some traditional LC plans (like Atkins or Protien Power) because, done properly and with a little imagination, using recipes and the like, they are not particularly restrictive. it's when we do the "somebody else says this is what low carb is" plans that you eat bacon cheeseburgers and salad for two weeks, and then wondered why you're feeling burned out.

best wishes to you.

Thanks for the welcomes, and the direction also. I will check out post-induction phase and recipe plans, I've never been to motivated to cook but if it makes this doable I'm willing to become a little better in the kitchen.

to clarify, many who LC are indeed physically active, and most do not need to "fuel up" with carbs to support exercise. if you're trying to lose weight, ingesting high levels of carbs before exercise simply means that you will have more glucose in your bloodstream available to burn off in exercise before you can start to burn fat.

your best guide is how you feel physically. that's why i suggest people look at secondary phases of plans when they have a very small amount of weight they'd like to lose and/or they are highly active. people who are _very_ active may feel better at higher levels of carbs, but it's an individual process finding the right levels for you. for most low carbers, pumping up the carbs before activty just makes the activity less productive in helping them lose unwanted pounds.
