Default Introduction

Hello Everyone!

I would like to introduce myself. I am a 37 year old female who is constantly striving to stay fit by any means necessary.Yes, I have tried almost every diet there is and now I am back to low carb dieting. The first time I did a low carb diet, I lost about 50 pounds. For this reason, I can't understand why my weight is going slow this time around.

I am in control of my eating and have been for about a month. I exercise on a regular basis, and still can't pinpoint why my weight loss is slow this time around. I believe that this time I am more focused and determined to eat a certain way for a long time and not for the here and now.

I would appreciate any advice and in the meantime, I will take a second look at my meal plan.

Thanks and I look forward to this support system!

Sheleen

Which low carb program are you following?

Sheleen. With your understanding now of what it takes to suceed, I think your decision to go back to Atkins will enable you to reach and maintain your goal. The key, of course, is to follow all the steps so you transition smoothly from weight loss to weight maintenance and LCE truly becomes your WOE and not a "diet". Good luck.

Hi Sheleen
Nice to be newbies with others! Anyway, I lost 40 pounds on Atkin's and gained 15 back and never made it to my target weight and that was 2 years ago. I've been back on Atkin's several times and could never keep it up so now I am doing South Beach and I really like it. My weight loss is slow. So far 2 pounds in 5 days on phase 1 with regular exercise, but this time I'm not stressed or obsessed with counting carbs or jumping on the scale everyday. I am comfortable knowing what I can eat and not worrying about the rest. So.....maybe you are stressing too much about how fast you should be losing weight or how many carbs you are eating in a day.
My new philosophy is "fiber is fit".
Good luck,
Cindy

Welcome Sheleen! I think maybe when you start it again it takes longer to lose than it did when you first followed the low carb plans. I'd just stick to it and give it time.

Welcome, Sheleen!

Looking at your profile, it says you're doing Atkins, and you have about 15 pounds you'd like to lose. Traditonally, folks that are re-doing LC after being away for a while and/or those with small amount of weight to lose find they do lose slower than their inital run or those who have never LCed before or have larger amounts of weight to lose.

This doesn't mean it's not working. This is simply how it is. However, since you have to continue to LC to maintain any losses for the long haul, it often helps to work on adjusting your expectations from fast weight loss to slow, steady progress towards your goal and finding a way of eating that you enjoy-and will enjoy for the rest of your life. In other words, focus on forever instead of on the effectiveness of your eating from a "diet" perspective. Do you have plenty of energy and feel good? Are you happy with what you're eating? Are you finding ways of integrating your eating habits into a well-balanced, healthy lifestyle? That's what's gonna get you there. I know we all want faster losses, and I can't fault anybody for that. But taking a long term view and being realistic in your expectations will get you futher IMO.

Glad to have you with us!!

Yes. I am beginning to realize that I should focus more on how I feel and how my clothes fit rather than pounds lost.

Thanks for the solid advice.

Hi,

I'm new too!

I agree. Focusing on the scale always seems to sabotage even the strictest dieter. Everyone has a week or two when the scale is not performing the way it should...

It can be evil

If you are losing inches, you are smaller. You do not have to share the number on the scale with anyone.

Use the scale as a barometer, not as a measure of success.
