| I am new to this site. I have recently gained weight . Did not realize it until I tried on my summer clothes. Too tight, to say the least! A few of my friends, middle aged like me, have tried low carb. They have done well. I am trying to find out more about it. I want to be well informed and do a good job of this! I was hoping to get some help from some of you. Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks! |

| Welcome. ![]() The very best way to start a low carb lifestyle is to get the book that goes with the program of your choice. Over the years, I've observed that those who pick a plan and understand the principles of that plan tend to have a much easier time of it. Hope you'll make yourself at home here.

| Glad to have you with us. Have to agree with Maggie-as I usually do!-that picking a plan and reading the book for it is the #1 thing you can do to make yourself more successful starting out. No question. Keep up posted!

| Learning about the different phases. Worried about getting headaches on this plan. Sounds like really good food though. |

| It's not unusual for people to experience withdrawl effects during induction, but that usually doesn't last long. Low Carb Questions - Newbie Topics - Is it normal to feel terrible during induction?

| I am confused as to where the concern about headaches is coming from...headaches are NOT assoicated with LC, so it doesn't take luck to avoid them. As mentioned in the FAQ linked above, those who eliminate all CAFFIENE in their diets very quickly sometimes have headaches, but this can easily be avoided by gradually reducing caffiene consumption.

| In my experience, some people may get headaches when starting Induction, it may be due to sugar withdrawal or yeast issues... Typically, the symptoms mimic the "hitting the wall" affect from long distance runing as you burn through glycogen stores and get to burning fat for energy. As the Goddess says, it does not last long, a day or two. If you get a headache, take a tylenol. |
