| My name is Riley. I am a MALE. (Get lots of assumptions that the name Riley is a female). I am 29, a student at Texas State University working on a bachelor's of science degree in clinical laboratory science. I will graduate in December (woohoo!) I am doing Dr. Atkin's New Diet Revolution plan. I've been on this plan since May 16th. I started at 198 lbs. I am now down to 187 lbs. I actually dropped down to 183, but for some reason have started GAINING again and I'm not sure why. My goal is to get to 118. I know what you're thinking "118 for a guy!? That's TINY!" but I assure you it's not. I'm only 5 feet tall. I was only 107 at one point in my life and looked fine. I'm just really needing some encouragement right now considering the scale has went up and my waistline went up an inch as well. I don't get it. |

| Hi Riley, to LCE!Congrats on your great start. 11 pounds down is terrific! It's not unusual for some folks to take a little *pause* after losing a significant amount, and 11-15 lbs is significant to your body. ![]() Unfortunately, the *bouncing* scales can drive a person crazy...trust me...I know this for a fact! ![]() a few thoughts: ~ are you still doing induction? If you are, it might be time to move on into OWL. your body may need more carbs to start losing again. ~ are you eating an excess of calorie and fat dense foods? ~ are you exercising? Non negotiable per Dr Atkins. ~are you getting enough water? Personally, I don't obscess over *half your weight in ounces* anymore, but I do try to get in at least 32-40 oz of water in addition to other beverages I drink throughout the day. If you would list a typical day's food intake maybe someone can spot something that might be tripping you up. ![]() best wishes on your LC journey to healthy eating and weight loss! s

| I'm having a LOT of trouble with the water thing. The main reason is because I work in a lab all day and we're not allowed to bring in drinks into the lab (yes that even means water..because we don't use regular water in the lab, we use sterile or deionized water..so regular water is considered a contaminant) so it's hard for me to get my water in. Do you think that could be stalling me? |

Riley. on deciding to take charge of your weight. It is often hard to determine the reason for a stall. It can be frustrating when our bodies do not react the way we would like. However, the important thing is to stay with the plan. You have not indicated anything , other than drinking the suggested amount of water, that you are doing, or not doing, under the methodology recommended by Dr. Atkins that could be a possible cause. As Shelly noted, posting a typical daily food intake could provide a basis for determining if there could be another possible cause. The lack of water could be a contributing factor, however, it is hard to say. Good luck on your journey.

| Welcome Riley! I have no excuse for not getting my water in....but I do. So I have taken to drinking my first one in the morning while my coffee is perking. Maybe you could drink a couple of cups on your way to and from work? That would be half. Then one with each of your meals? One more before bed, and you got 8 glasses in. Now I will try to do better myself. ![]() katlupe |

| welcome riley! congrats on your good start! it can be very frustrating to have a "pause" as i like to call them, and sometimes takes some detective work to figure out. shell mentioned several good points. many people find getting enough water does make a significant difference for them, so your job restrictions on chugging down the h20 could be making it harder. you may have to get creative as kat suggested, since you said you've been gaining for a while, i'd also look at anything that changed around the time you started gaining. it's very common for losses to pause after a drop and after induction in particular it's common. it's less common to start going up, though. you could also post a couple days worth of menus for review if you like. the folks here are often good about spotting possible problem areas. good luck!

| My menu is pretty much the same everyday. Breakfast: Chocolate Almond Mocha egg creme shake: 1/4 c. cream, 1/4 cup egg beaters, 2 scoops whey protein powder, 1/4 cup decaf espresso, few drops almond extract, splash of chocolate DiVinci syrup, ice. Blend until shake-like. Lunch: usually either a taco salad or a chef salad Dinner: usually just meat of some sort. Pork loin, cheeseburger patty, or baked chicken leg quarter. |

| I'm not the best menu reviewer here, so bear that in mind, but overall, it doesn't sound bad. You may want to add some veggies at dinner? You've already mentioned the spices in your taco salads in another thread added up quite a bit and so I know you're already looking at that. If you're not taking a multivitamin, we generally suggest that. I'd work on the water drinking, as that often helps. If you're taking any medication, that's another area that can impact it. Sorry I don't have more ideas for you, though.
