Hi everyone!

I have to go low carb. Reproductive doctors orders. I have PCOS and Insulin Resistance. I am trying to become a mother after 3 losses. I have been on and off Metformin for almost 4 yrs and constantly taking since Nov 2008. It has helped some that is how I became pregnant with my last angel.
I was 145lbs before PCOS and now I am at 300lbs. I gained a 100 of it in less than a year. I saw 3 doctors before one figured it out in Oct 2005. I have not been able to lose no matter what I do. I can only seem to maintain these days. Well everytime I start Met i lose a few because of the horrible GI problems it causes.
The RE told me no more than 50g of carbs a day. No fruits what so ever. Eat leafy greens, which is not a problem. I mostly eat chicken or steak. I cant eat ground beef it makes me ill. I absolutely hate eggs and seafood. I cut out soda in Jan. I tried diet soda but it made me sick.
The Metformin can almost be like the diet pill Alli. If you eat too many carbs you are in the bathroom all day. I have learned that lesson.

I hope it works this time around. I tried low carbing from Nov 08 til Feb 09 and I gained weight somehow. Dr said try again since I am on a higher dose of Metformin now.

Welcome, Lilin.

Most people do best on low carbing when they're following a particular program. Have you chosen one yet?

Hope you'll make yourself at home here.

Stephanie, I see that you are not following a specific l/c plan. L/C plans do provide some needed structure, particularly when you are starting out. The objective of the major plans is to help you develop a healthy way of eating that you can stay with, rather than a "diet" that you can stop when you reach a particular weight goal. Good luck!!

Welcome! Sorry to hear you've been having a rough time, and I hope you can find some relief with the LC lifestyle. I am not knowledable personally about PCOS and some of the other things you mention, but I have heard folks say that LC has been helpful for them in this regard.

I'm glad to hear you're working with your doc, which is important with the health concerns. And I would echo both Maggie and Henry's advice as well. Very good suggestions!

Welcome Stephanie! Glad to have you join us here in our low carb journey. Sounds like you have a had a very rough time! I follow Atkins and I absolutely love it. Got a little sidetracked the past couple of weeks and I could certainly tell the difference in the way I felt. Two days back on and I already feel better. Good luck and if you need any help just ask.
