Hi everyone. I am so happy I have found Lo Carb living. I have tried other diets, and joined WW so often, and nothing worked. I don't mind working a diet, if it works. I finally found one that I enjoy following and hopefully will be able to follow for a long time. I had given up. I thought perhaps it was my age. I am close to 80 years old, and thought perhaps my metabolism had slowed down. I know it is more difficult to lose weight as one gets older. I had lost over 60 pounds a few years ago when I joined O.A.. I started following a locarb woe last Saturday (9/11 and so far have lost 10 pounds). I am thrilled. I am reading book after book on this woe. I am taking something out of each book. I now weigh 201 pounds. I f I keep doing what I am doing now, I am sure I will reach goal of 150 in the future. No rush. It took me longer to gain all this weight...so I am sure it will take a while to take it off.

Hugs to you all!
Arlene

Welcome Arlene. Of all the LC books you have read which plan have you chosen to follow. Based on a lot of experience here it's best to pick one plan and stick to it rather than trying o combine plans. Best wishes on your LC journey.

Thanks for your welcome. I especially like Dana Carpendar's book and is closest to what I am doing. I am going for 30 carbs a day. I also like the Atkin's program, but I found it difficult to stick to 20 carbs on the induction program. As long as I lose some each day, I am happy.

Welcome, Arlene. Glad to have you with us. Congrats on your decision to pay attention to your eating and stay healthy!

Just so you know, however, expecting to lose weight each day is not realistic long term. Earlier on, you may well experience that (and how great it is when you do), but I would be remiss if I didn't mention that doesn't continue forever, and it doesn't mean things "stopped working" when you go through a period where you don't lose.

Arlene, you're my hero--to recognize that it isn't too late at almost-80 to do something important for your healthy future.

I expect you'll get "instant" results on low-carb eating, but it's much more than weight loss. Energy, digestive comfort, and genuine satiety (no nagging hunger or cravings) will be some good things to expect.

Best wishes.

Arlene, one of the secrets of success for low/controlled carb eating is to be able to stay with whatever program you are following. Often , we find that it is necessary to tweak a particular program because we are all different and it helps to have a base to tweak from. I wish you much success. Congratulations on deciding to take charge of your eating, it is never too late. Good luck.

Welcome Arlene!!!! There are some really great folks on these forums. If you get stuck, need support, or just want to chat a bit you will find plenty of wonderful people. Looking forward to sharing your journey!!!
BTW, my wonderful grandmother reached her lifetime goal weight at 83 and was keeping it off. It is a goal you can reach and I believe Locarb eating is a sensible and much less painful way to do it.

I don't know if you have any of the "issues" that seem to come along as we age, but if you do: TAKE HEART! My arthritis, cronic fatigue, and other ailments are so much better. : )

Anyway, WARMEST OF WELCOMES!
