I love eating "cave man" style. For me, this means: whole, natural foods; no grains, legumes, dairy foods, or potatoes; definitely no sugar; plenty of meat, poultry, fish, eggs, and low starch vegetables, some nuts and berries. Many cave man eaters include fruit other than berries, but I am very cautious in this area. My current plan with fruit is to eat it in summer only, and to use the "reward meal" concept from CAD to keep it under control. Even then, only as a treat.

Some cave folk use honey, but not me. I'm a low carber first and foremost.

One "nelolithic" food I continue to eat is butter. Only with veggies and seafood that really call out for it. Other fats I use are olive oil (love extra virgin), coconut oil, lard, chicken and bacon fat saved from cooking.

Foods to explore: organ meats, low starch root vegetables, homemade jerky and pemmican, coconut milk and almond milk, sea vegetables.

There are other lifestyle changes I would like to make: regular walking, spending more (and increasingly more) time outdoors, sleeping more in synch with the sun, and spending time outdoors with my glasses off.

In college I was an avid Euell Gibbons fan. I would like to revive my interest in field botany and try a little foraging. In my back yard, not out in natural preserves.

I really want to keep losing weight. My best successes have been when I am majoring in meat and vegetables. Go paleo eating!

Here are some short term goals:
Foods: chicken livers, watermelon radishes, jerky
Exercise: get back on a regular walking schedule
Outdoor life: Spring is coming! At least take a walk, spend time in the yard, do some outdoor work, go bird watching, etc.
Sleep schedule: this is the toughest. I can't go to bed before my children on a regular basis. Keep working on this one. At least get new shades to block street lights.

Here's a long term goal: look up some of the references in the Neanderthin bibliography.

Oh, today is such a beautiful day. I've done my basking and some picking up sticks in the backyard.

Straight arrow in my paleo eating. I had tuna salad with celery, walnuts and mayo. Hellmann's tastes great, but soybean oil is not the greatest for paleo. Brazil nuts on the side.

Need to keep pushing the outdoor time, especially with current great temps and sunshine.

Cleaning up and re-organizing in kitchen to make room for my dehydrator. Coming up next: jerky.

The jerky is underway! Will be done before I go to bed tonight.

I've been doing pretty good with being outdoors, but I can't rest on my laurels, need to keep pushing this.

The March walking challenge is great for me. I took the challenge to walk an average of two miles a day for a total of 62 miles for the month. This friendly walking club will really help me stick with it and get back in the walking habit.

Walking is my very favorite exercise. I am trying to take my walks midday to get my sun exposure in.

Cooking chicken livers tonight, maybe even get out my watermelon radish.

Things are swell, here in the cave.

The jerky is delicious, and I actually made the chicken liver pate. The livers are all paleo since I used chicken fat instead of butter to cook it.

Have to unearth that watermelon radish. How about liver, radish, and carrot for breakfast.

Next cooking adventures: pemmican and nut sushi.

Been eating Hawaiian Delight with strawberries. Not bad. Need to try Neanderthin coconut ice cream too.

Walking going well. Keep pushing the outdoor thing.

TOM came yesterday. Maybe that's why my weight has been at the high end the last few days.

Nut sushi was very good. But lots of nuts. Try it with cauliflower too.

Still stuck at 225, so started fitday again. Will list food in this journal as well.

Bf - 6 c. lettuce, 1 green pepper, filet mignon, olive oil and lemon dressing

L - 14 Brazil nuts, 7.5 strawberries, 23 shrimp, 2 c. cooked kale, 2T chopped onion, coconut oil

D - now past 8:30 and starting to get hungry. Will have some chicken, probably no vegetable or else a little lettuce

Walk today, but not enough outdoor time. Try cooking lunch outdoors.

Have finally been foraging - day lilies and dandelions.

Walking still going well, still pushing for more outdoor time. Time to start gardening. Ironic that a neolithic activity is helping me to feel more paleolithic!

Homemade jerky and pemmican are awesome.
