hi MK! you are doing so well!! i can hear newfound happiness in your "voice!" LOL

glad you're liking curves so much!
it seems like you were in the same boat that i'm in now. not eating HC, but not enough of the good stuff and too much processed junk.
i've gotten hooked on having an atkins bar for breakfast. must stop. and too much LC ice cream. i kicked the LC chocolate bar "habit" ... so i know i can/will have to get rid of these bad habits, too!

take care ....

From the readings - I think there is a 4-month slump, just like there is a 3 week stall. It sure hit me. I wasn't eating the HC, just treating on the bars, Hersheys, Carbolite, and not getting the water / veggies like I should.

I think this change is just what I needed. I can focus on this for the 6 weeks - and have an 'in-person support group' along with the great people I know here. But I do feel like I am getting a clean chance. I kept trying to restart an induction, but couldn't seem to.
But this plan actually starts out with fruit and less veggies (sorry, I just had a serious problem with all the veggies I was trying to force down). And I can live with their menus that are provided - so its a little more straightforward.
It's still low-carb, and although they state one of the goals is to reach a point (after goal) where you can start eating 'normally' again - I'll never be adding the sweets and breads I used to. Just feel too good without them.
But they have 3 plans - lowcarb, low cal, and a slow metabolism 'breaker' - you can switch around as need be.

oh yes, i meant to ask you - how does curves determine whether you are carb sensitive, calorie sensitive, etc??

There is a list of questions that help you target which type you are - and if not a definite one or the other - you start with the low carb for 2 weeks and if not seeing any results, switch over to the low-cal.

I was DEFINITELY carb sensitive. I picked up the book at Amazon(actually 2 - the Curves Book, and the Curves to Go book - which is a summary of it, plus a pretty good journal book for tracking). The testing and diet plan are in both books, I think.

Day 2 - wasn't quite as good - but overdid it with a veggie - how bad can that be?
carb = 28 cal = 1375 prot = 61

b - m. cereal, sf syrup, 1 flax muffin
s - curves shake, 2 oz cheese
l - turkey caesar salad
s - 3 hb eggs
d - spaghetti squash w/ alfredo sauce

water - 120 oz, 30 min at Curves

got my ab roller today, but by the time I got it assembled, didn't have much energy left to use it. but I did a little.
also, Carrie reminded me that I had one of the ab floor roller things. Dug that out too. So, now I have to use these things!!!

Not to get excited or anything - but the scale said 203 this morning. Hasn't said that yet. not this scale. so, maybe this thing is working on getting me started again.

Won't say for sure until Tuesday - will have official weigh in at Curves. But, of course, if everything is the same as it has been the last 4-1/2 months - I'll be seeing TOM around that time. It will be nice to have this week 'under my belt' before then though. I would hate to start this and then go right into it.

So, not totally accepting the number yet - but it is nice to see it.
Started to day with eggs/bacon - yesterday kinda shot myself starting out with my m.cereal and then having something with decent carbs later.

Today I'll plan on something with the 'carb' meal later in the day. Thinking about trying to get DH home early enough for TGIFridays.

My DD is coming home this weekend. Good enough for me for Mothers Day. Haven't seen her since mid March. Which may not seem long, but the first time she has been away except for vacations. Anxious to hear how it is going. We have accepted her choice (she is 19yo, and living with a 38 yo) - because she does seem very happy with it. And that is really the best you can hope for with your children. She hasn't mentioned how the school planning is going, hope we can get more info this weekend. Even if that doesn't happen (will be disappointed) - she is working, and she is enjoying her life.

Mary Kay,

Looks like you're doing FABULOUS!! Awesome motivation!

Sounds like your daughter is happy. I guess that's all you can ask for. When I moved to DC at 17 to attend college, my parents were adamant that I not go. They finally subsided and I've been here ever since. I know they miss me and want me to move home but I'm happy here and knowing that they are happy for me, makes it a lot easier.

Hi MaryKay-
I've been following your Curves progress. Way to go! I would love to try that out here, but we've got 3 big rec centers with state-of-the-art free weights and circuit training that are "free" for living in the neighborhood, so can't justify paying for something.

A 19 year-old living w/ a 38-year-old??!! He's double her age! Oh my, good for you for exercising self-restraint. I am 38 right now, and am a completely different person than I was at 19. Hopefully your daughter is more mature and worldly than I was. I was in college and thought I knew everything. Hah! But it's important you support her. You won't change anything by criticizing her choices - which would only strain the relationship. She needs to figure out her life for herself at this point. Plus, I'm sure she knows how you feel anyway. I'm glad she's happy, and glad you've come to terms with it.

Happy Mother's Day!

oh, yes, use what is free and available.
although I also have a 3 year membership to Ballys that I intend to start using again later this year. it was just too much for me to deal with last year. I tried. But I wasn't eating right, wouldn't give anything up, and the asthma was too intense with their workout plan.
I think I will be getting back there - when I hit the 190 mark. even if just to semi use the weights - they do have a track and a pool and a whirlpool. Just not quite ready yet.

cal = 1470 carb = 19 prot = 111

b - 2 fried eggs, 3 slice bacon
s - curves shake, 1 flaxseed muffin
l - 10 large shrimp, 2 tbs curry/mayonnaise
s - cucumber with ranch dressing
d - TGIFridays strip steak/broccoli
s - 1c cottage cheese

another good day. that's 3 in a row, and I worked out at Curves today.
told the mgr about fitday so she can work it into the challenge class.
I feel like I'm focused again, and no cravings at all. It is very much
like Atkins induction at this point.

Feeling much better about myself and my plan.
We get the brat puppy for the next few days - DS will be back Sunday night - so we'll do something for Mothers day then. And my DD will be here Saturday night through Monday. Will be nice to have them both here Monday. DS has school, so will have to plan something dinner type.
When they were little, they used to give me charms, I'd really like to get that bracelet out and get some new ones. Think I'll mention it to DH.

Oh. was looking for an old blanket for the puppy - found my old Thigh Master. Put it in the 'exercise' room (ex-dd room). Now I can get the mini trampoline cleaned up (spiders have had a field day in garage - and I'll have my little gym.

Weekends are hard. Like we don't all know that!
but doing okay. Had a motorcycle club meeting this morning. I'm treasurer and newsletter person, but it is really getting old. The president took off for a 4-day ride, and there were people there for the planned day rides he had said were happening. and there are only about 5 of us who ever volunteer for anything.
DH is tired of it and says this is the last year for our going. Which makes sense, cause as long as business stays okay this year - he's getting a new Harley for xmas. We have a Honda now and this is a Honda club. Both his brothers are Harley men, and it would be nice to be able to go to Bike Week with the HARLEY. So, I've got a bike fund going for xmas.

then we went for a little ride. I enjoyed it, but I am always ready to head home before DH is.

I got a new bicycle. I had one of those racing ones from about 15 years ago - but I hated riding it. I don't like having to think about gears and stuff ,and I really don't like hand brakes. So I got a new Cruiser. Little old lady bike. No gears, pedal braking, and old fashioned handlebars. I can sit up straight when riding. Spent a little more on it than I planned, but it is a good sturdy bike from the local bike shop (instead of Walmart). Pretty red/maroon one. Gotta get out on it every day - even if only around the block for now.

If I ate it, I have to report it.
Was doing so good, and then treated myself to the Banana nut bread that come with my salad.
Usually, I would just give it to hubby - But it was a weekend, and Mothers Day weekend to boot.
So, report it and move on to today. Should be a high protein day with grillout dinner, so much better.

cal = 1392 carb = 69 (!!!) prot = 72

b = 2 egg, 3 bacon
s = curves shake
l = quiznos mesquite chicken/bacon flatbread
s = 1 c cucumbers/ ranch dressing
d = Bob evans country spinach salad
s = 2 small slices banana nut bread (still 2 in the container - kid gets that)

and I can barely walk from my little bike ride yesterday (and it was little)

cal = 1469 carb = 26 prot = 87

b - 2 egg, 3 bacon
s - curves shake, flaxseed muffin
l - salad, ranch dressing
s -
d - big steak, mushrooms, salad/ranch
s - strawberries in heavy cream

bad weekend, blaming Mothers day and pre-Tom.
back to eating right today.
did ride the bike around the block again -
will do so until I feel ready to add a little more distance.

really gave into a couple treats this weekend. Shouldn't have, but did. So, get back to it. Tom should be coming today or tomorrow if it keeps going the same way it has. Bummer.

Seeing the asthma doctor today. Be interesting to hear what he says about it not being bad at all anymore.

cal = 1653 carb = 20 prot = 151

well, hit the carb limit, but feel like I went so high on the rest of it!
b - maggies cereal/sf syrup
s - curves shake, 2 oz cheddar
l - tuna salad w/lettuce
s - flaxseed muffin
d - sirloin cheeseburger, 2 mettwursts, mushrooms

rode the bike around the block twice at lunch, 4 times after work.
Today is curves workout, and tonight is curves challenge meeting -
don't think I lost weight, but I have been low carbing for awhile so
the reduced carb level (induction) may be playing against me.
Trying to decide whether to go to phase II or stay for the extra week.
normally 2 weeks if you have over 25lb to lose (I do!), but I've also
been doing this for several months - may be time to go to phase II.

asthma dr did n't have much to say. barely acknowledged that after 20 years of treatment, this WOL has had a major impact.

Oh well, found out yesterday that new insurance doesnt cover him anyhow - so have to find a new one for next time.
