I'm horrible at journal keeping, but decided to give it a shot here - little more public, little more easy to review.

I've been on this WOL since 1/2/2004 - love what cutting out the carbs has done for me.
My asthma is almost non-existent now - still on preventative med, but hardly using the inhaler these days. After years of having to use it multiple times daily.

also, my 'moods' up/down/up/down - have leveled out considerably. I was impatient and anxious most of the time, and now can deal with delays much better.

I am off the couch and exercising, regularly, for the first time in years. Tried Ballys last year, but was just too much for me. I joined Curves and love it. 3x week.

bad news - weight loss is - - extremely-- slow. but it is still LOSS and not GAIN. took me 6 months to put on the last 13 lbs. and I think I lost 10 in January. I'm up and down so much around 220 that it is hard to nail down.

Not going to weigh myself until Monday (post TOM) and then again for the end of the VD challenge - which I know I won't hit.

I don't plan to join any more 'weight' challenges - too frustrating and also hard to watch everyone else with their bigger losses. But I'll be on the exercise ones.

Doing Walking tapes, considering actually 'doing' the pilates tapes I have - and waiting for my Belly Dance tapes. That will be such a fun way, although no one is allowed to see me for at least 6 months.

That's it for now. Just getting started. Wasn't the best day anyhow. been in a class all week and can't wait to get back to my normal schedule.

    well, missed a day.
Had a wonderful lunch with Jen, Jan and April. It was fun. then we went over to the HFS and did a little shopping. Got some things I needed and they helped me get some things I didn't know where to find.
We intend to meet each month - they are so nice and helpful - and April is such an inspiration.

Another lazy day. TOM is still hanging on. The 2 since I started this WOL have been so intense. Seems to drain me. or something is.

did the shopping and did the prework for the week. Got my peppers and other veggies ready. Got strawberries (they taste SO sweet, but doug says they arent - must be my tastes changing). and blueberries and rasberries.

at the HFS, they were handing out some 'lo-carb' white chocolate - didn't even want any. And I used to go nuts at easter - couldn't resist that at all. Don't want sweets at all. could be fear of the cravings - but I like not wanting or needing it. The fruits are sweet enough.

So, tomorrow back to real work and my schedule. Gotta force myself to stay off this site during the day!!! need to do the work!

may switch to Curves M/W/F instead of having to come in on Saturday. not sure.

Hi MaryKay! It sounds like you are doing great! Don't worry about the slow weight loss. I am experiencing the same thing. I am down only 12 pounds in 5 weeks. Remember slow and steady wins the race.

    Good luck all!!

Boy, what a difference some knowledge can make. I THOUGHT I was moving up my carbs, but when I really looked at the net carbs, even for the last 2 weeks I have been well below the 20.
    Yipes.
so. Today I started the spreadsheet to track the Cals, carbs, fiber, protein and NET CARBS.
Really hard for me to get the numbers up. I just feel like I am having to eat SO MUCH!! Planned the day with 26 net - but feel like I have to eat all day.

but glad I bought a lot of the peppers (actually wanting those).

so, this was this mornings REVELATION! I gotta get those carbs up! quite possibly the reason nothing has happened since mid January.

I'm letting things slip away. not tracking like I should. Haven't had any BAD things, but haven't been controlling the GOOD things like I should.
been grazing today. Computers are driving me nuts!! my main desktop decided to act up today. won't load my software, and did the blue screen 5 times during a reboot.

Have to go make a salad soon. been avoiding it.

    Mary Kay,

Remember a couple of things...muscle weighs more than fat, so do your measurements and make sure you are getting your water. I'm having the same problem you are in that I can't seem to get my carbs up enough. But you're doing great, keep up the good work and the whoosh fairy will visit soon.

ok. I know it is early - But I actually cooked from a recipe tonight!! big accomplishment for me. I made the creamy skillet chicken.
    so, having that for dinner,
    b-2 eggs/2 bac,
snack - cucumber with locarb ranch
    lunch - turkey chef salad

think I may have about a 1/2 of blueberry/rasberry to get rid of it tonight.
Very good day. even did Curves.

Have decided to weigh one last time for the Valentines day challenge - not even 1/2 way there, but I am a slow starter. I think it had to do a lot with exercise, and actually having my carbs too low. Working them up quicker now - had a spike day yesterday (not a conscious effort, just a piggy day on 'good' carbs).

will see what happens Saturday - then I am putting the scale away until after vacation. Its just too frustrating.

joined the walking challenge - I was doing good on the walking tapes, but have been slacking off on that. Need to get back to doing that on the days I don't do Curves.

New clothes are still 18/20 - but they fit nicer. I've been wearing sweats for so long, I don't know what I was wearing - but I have lost 2-3 inches off of major body parts. Happy on that.

well, may check in later. I'm just proud I actually 'cooked' something from a recipe here. Had the ingredients, knew what they were. A lot of the other ones just confuse me. If it takes more than 4 ingredients , I don't deal with it.

and no one else is home yet. The one night I make something. It came out really good.

Mary Kay!!! I can relate to so many things in your journaling hon. I too am battling on the upping of carbs/how to do it and even if it's necessary for me right now.

If ya ever need a shoulder...I'm here

Glad ya joined the walking challenge...I definitely need the accountability for motivation on that one!!

me too. haven't missed a day of curves yet. but haven't been able to get back to waking up and doing the walk. I need a little push on that too.

I found I love yellow peppers - which is a decent carb food (not bad carbs, but a slightly higher carb). Like celery sticks, dipping in cream cheese tubs. Got some strawberries (they're gone) and other berries. gotta quit making 'easy' ice cream with heavy cream and berries. Don't need that much extra fat. I like them plain better.

I quit doing the adkins bars a couple weeks ago - hoping it would break a stall (HA!), but now I don't want them.
I'll do a shake a couple times a week for mid afternoon snack - adds a few carbs.
once I figured to deduct the fiber on fit-day - found out I was actually running 12-15 instead of the 20. So, working hard to hit the 25-30 net carbs per day now.

heck, yesterday I hit 38. peppers, walnuts, blueberries ( overindulgence ).
Today I am at 26 right now and that is probably it. Added some berries and pepper this evening - to get it up there. I know it is uneven and I need to get it more even during the day.

Hi, Mary Kay. Really loved your belly dancer I saw on another post. How do you insert the the gifs (belly dancer) into the text? I have tried my normal use for email, etc. but it does not work on these posts. I have microsoft word and AOL. Thanks, JenJen.

PS. I may have to try that belly dancing. I had been looking for a tape. Looks like fun and I could use the help with my coordination..

you can just right click on the little 'characters' in anyone'e post and get the http:// address in properties.

then just copy the address and paste, then put a [img][/img] around it.

Had a nice valentines day. Went to O'charleys for dinner (had a roll - and an orange, but it hasn't bothered me much - so move on)

2 weeks til vacation. Although I haven't lost a lot of weight - I have lost inches - and the **** saddlebags are mysteriously disappearing for the first time in many, many years. I'm sure I can thank Curves for that.

Time to start organizing the packing - and I have to try everything on, don't want to haul stuff down that is too big (what a disaster that would be

Already located a Curves in the vicinity - and will surely be doing a lot of walking. We are in a condo resort, so will be able to stock the kitchen with my requirements. BIL is a professional chef, but have never had a meal he cooked (in 25 years) so don't have to worry about that. Although he does make a bloody mary that is to die for.

And the scale has gone into hibernation. I'll check in on it in a month to see if it is behaving better. I may let it out then - or it may just stay away. It is the only frustrating part of this WOL. I feel so good I can't ever imagine having the sugar again. It just drives me so crazy.

well, enough for this morning. Off to have a mock danish and get back to eating properly. grocery day.
