| Whew! finally finished 3 days of house sitting for a large dog and 7 cats. One is a stray cat my friend took in who had a litter of one kitten (that lived). So that was fun having a 3 week old kitten to watch. I don't know where I stand low-carb wise. I didn't want to drag all my low carb stuff over there just for the 3 days. So i ate a LOT of meat and salad. It was like being back on induction except i ate a 2 1/2 pound pork roast in 3 days (by lunchtime). I also drank a liter of diet vanilla pepsi. I like it, but am unlikely to finish the rest of the bottle. Still have half a bottle of diet cheerwine in the refrigerator from June. I'm curious to see what the scales tell me Sunday. | Good for you febe. Nice to feel you're on the right track. Well I haven't been feeling well all week. Running a slight fever and feeling weak. My walking is behind schedule because of it. But I think I've been good as far as carbs go this month. |

| Shelley Changed the avatar again. I think this one is a mime. But I liked the art not mimes. I think this woe is really changing me. Last week I bought half a pound of untoasted almonds and they lasted a full week. amazing that they lasted even a day. Then yesterday I found a container in the fridge with this cabbage tomato ground beef dish that I really love. Kind of like inside out stuffed cabbage. I normally would have finished most of it the first night and had the rest for lunch the next day. But here was almost a quart and I had not only not eaten it all but I forgot it even existed. The downside was I ate it immediately and then checked on fitday to see how old it was. 12 days. So far no symptoms of ptomaine but my friend who is a health inspector says it can take 3 or 4 days for symptoms to show. I have been doing very well with my walking. I walked around the lake (7 miles) twice in 3 days this week. and it gets easier. when I did it for the first time in a couple years, in mid august, I needed 2 days to recuperate. I did it saturday and monday and walked 4 miles on sunday. Febe-glad you're doing well! Rob |

| Hey Rob! Good job on keeping to the walking, and the low carbing! Hopefully you didn't get ptomaine, usually cabbage gives you an indication that it's not exactly right by the fact that it stinks to high heaven. I've missed talking to you, we'll have to resurrect our afternoon chats. Seems like every time I check in lately there's no one around. Must be part of the site getting too many hits. Sounds like you're doing good anyway, and that the new digs are agreeing with you. It's amazing how quickly our bodies adapt to exercise and a healthier diet. Sounds like slowly your brain is adapting too. If you can obsess on losing weight the way you did on gaining it, you'll be all set! (talking to myself there). Talk to you soon! |

| dano-funny but I posted to your journal before coming here. No Ptomaine so I guess I'm out of the woods. Learned a lesson though. Today I found some grey ground beef in the back of the refrigerator. I knew it wasn't more than 3 or 4 days old but rather than take the chance I cooked it up and am feeding it to my dog over teh next couple days. Dogs immune systems are a lot better than ours. How else could she eat 3 weeks dead entrails before I scare her off by screaming in horror. Last weigh-in i was 254.5. so 55.5 pounds lost. Weight loss slowed this summer to 13 pounds during july and august (9 weeks). All those sunday cookouts where people feel sorry for the poor low carber who can't have corn and potato salad so offer him the extra rib-eye steak had their price. But I still lost weigh and that's a tribute to the effectiveness of this woe. Though learning to say no to the extra beef and the low carb beer is something I want to achieve. Now football season is here and I ate honey barbecued wings but just 6 of them, the small wing part. I brought cheese and a greek salad and some Italian and greek oil cured olives. So there was no excuse for the wings except I wanted them dammit. I am seriously considering not going to any more football parties. But we shall see. Rob |

| Hi Rob, First of all don't feel too badly about losing 13 pounds this summer. I think that's great. I maintained all summer. Now about the chicken wings, we all know honey garlic are a no no, but do you eat Buffalo wings? You could always bring some to the parties and not feel left out !! Victors are really just temporary quitters who then regroup with a vengeance. |

| Thanks Mona. I might do just that one sunday. I've already bought Spare ribs for this coming sunday so I just have to find a low carb sauce or a good recipe for one. Maybe I'll post a request. |

| Hi Rob!! This is a very good BBQ Sauce if you like the kind they have in the south!! Very easy to make!! Low Carb. Georgia Barbeque Sauce 2 cups distilled white vinegar 1 tablespoon mustard 2 tablespoons ground black pepper 1 tablespoons red pepper(like pizza guy brings) 2 tablespoons salt 4-6 tablespoons Splenda 1/4 cup butter 2 (6 ounce) cans tomato paste Directions 1 Combine the vinegar, mustard, black pepper, red pepper, salt, Splenda, and butter in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring frequently. Stir in the tomato paste until well blended. Allow to cool. You can add smoke if you want. | Thanks febe Caught it in th eother thread too. Good it makes it easy to find being in 2 places. Your recipe is very similar to an eastern north carolina bbq sauce. I live in the western part of the state but I like eastern a lot. I'll post what I end up doing in the other thread. |
