Rob can out walk me any given day....... that is why he is my inspiration with the walking! Rob, I won't be walking outside in about 2 weeks tho....... frozen tunda will be the ground that I walk upon in KC soon. I do not have the perservance that you do for those types of things. However, I do have my trusty stationary bike and my zillions of exercise videos, so all....... hopefully, will be well!

Beach - I'm just OC about walking in nice weather.

Rhonda - My rule is if it's above 40 I can walk outdoors. Below 40 I skip walking altogether or do the dreaded mall walking. But NOT in December. (shudders at the thought of Christmas shoppers). Made blackened chicken for dinner last night and it was delicious. That seasoning is excellent. And you're right - you DON'T have to smoke up the house. My moms 60+ year old cast iron pan will take up permanent residence on my stove top.

No walk yesterday as I was experiencing hip joint pain. always a sign I'm over doing it. But my pedometer read 3 miles at the end of the day anyway. Not the 10,000 steps they recommend but not too shabby for a mostly deskbound person.

Rob, my grandmother's cast iron skillets are never far from my stovetop. My treasured items from her after her passing. She specifically willed them to me because she knew how sentimental I was about them. She taught me how to cook using them.

I hope your hip feels better soon Rob. Yes, do not over do it!

Rhonda - What a memory to have and to have a keepsake is pretty special. Because I was a guy my mom never taught me to cook. but I would cook omelets and burgers in her cast iron skillet when i was in my teens, not knowing that they aren't good for eggs. But her skillet was so well used that the eggs didn't stick. Unfortunately I wash the skillet too thoroughly so eggs will stick for me now. I should probably reseason it.

I love my cast iron skillet too. My MIL bought mine for me in a thrift store and it lives on my stovetop. I would not go back to using the newer modern skillts. Everything just cooks better in the cast iron one. Oh, and I cook eggs in mine too. Have a great day

I had THE BEST old cast iron skillets when I lived in Kentucky. Unfortunately, I lost them in the divorce. I want to buy one and use it, but I don't think I can because of the stove we have. It's a glass top stove and I'm thinking that cast iron will scratch the surface. Does anyone know? I mean, I was at WalMart two weeks ago and put some really expensive cast iron skillets in my cart and then thought about that dang glass top stove and put them back. We rent the house and I don't think the landlord would appreciate us scratching his stove.

Again.......anyone know if cast iron would scratch that surface??????

Vivkie - Yes, Not even my calphalon is as good.

KIm - sigh - The puppy chewed through the new telephone cord this morning.
yep, I feel it in my bones - this will be the winter to make up for the last one.

April - My sister had a white glass topped stove and she wouldn't use her cast iron on it because it discolored it and it was difficult to get off. why not buy yourself a cheap lodge cast iron skillet and use it on the gas grill?

Today was 80 degrees! So I walkedd 7 1/2 miles at Tanglewood park. The weather report said that a cold front will push this warm front out. so tomorrow's high is only supposed to reach 62. Hey That's nice enough for me.
Having blackened veal chops (with apologies to those who won;t eat veal for humanitarian reasons) with mushroom cream gravy and cauliflower mash and sauteed green beans with garlic for dinner. In fact I'm going to make everything but the chops right now so all i have to do is heat teh veggies and gravy while I blacken the chops.

You're making my mouth water Rob! Sounds delicious! Cold weather is quickly moving in here in KC. Was a nice balmy 70 degrees earlier today and has dropped to almost 40 and rapidly going down tonight. Supposed to be a hard freeze tonight so I will be dragging in all my plants from outside once again (which is no small feat considering most of them are 6 feet tall or more).

Hope you are enjoying your day with your furchildren

Rob, veal is the most delicious and expensive of meats I have ever purchased. My theory is....... everything has a season and everything in its own time. We think nothing of caging chickens and then slaughtering them at the ripe old age of six months or less..... so, I'd say..... hope you enjoy your dinner....... sounds marvelous, but then again, I have always known you were the l/c chef! Track your recipes religiously and share them like I did at the l/c KC feast a few weeks ago.....always giving you credit of course, my dear friend

No walking for me tonight. Cold, damp and dark. Hate leaving for work and coming home for work in pitch blackness. Guess I better get used to it!

I don't mind eating a vegetarian diet. But I gain weight every time I tried it. BIG time! Ironically I never gain a lot when being strictly carnivorous.

Well Rob I doubt I walked more than a mile and a half yesterday but at least it was something. Do you usually try to put some hours between your walks and bed time?

I seem to have trouble sleeping after a lot of late afternoon activity.

Rhonda - The veal chops were delicious! cooked almost medium rare the way i like it. The green beans I stir fried and added some frozen red bell peppers and onion mix. But the cauli mash was incredibly tasty and creamy. The weather is starting to turn cold at night here too. won;t be much longer before i have to drag MY plants indoors. tonight it's supposed to dip into the 30s. Ah well I count my blessings that summer has visited in late october and early november. I hear you on teh coming and going to work in darkness thing. I used to hate that too. December would have been my least favorite month if it weren't for Christmas.

Kim - I rarely eat veal because of the price. The veal loin chops I ate last night were 10.99 a pound. but i bought them in the last day of sale discount cooler at half price. I always rtionalize eating meat by thinking "well the cows wouldn't ever have been born if we didn't eat them. I mean if everyone stopped eating beef they wouldn't just set the cows free to roam the streets of laredo.

Stephen - Consistency in exercise is more important than distance. I usually do my walking based on weather.com. I check the hour by hour temperatures and conditions and choose the time that seems most comfortable. But I almost never walk past 3:30.

Since yesterday was the last taste of summer (high 82) I wanted to do a really good walk. So 7 1/2 miles at TAnglewood in 2 hours and six minutes. That's pretty good for me over rough terrain. I can walk much faster on a hard smooth surface.
