Kim, I thought Rob and I warned you about walking after dark with the lions, and tigers and bears! Will have to check out that picture for sure You always admire me with your walking abilities Rob... Stephen, perhaps you were eating too much cheese or something with your vegetarian diet? Dunno, I am a meat eater and always will be I suppose. You are right Rob, we don't want cows aimlessly roaming the streets of Laredo! Loved that song.... one of my father's favorites actually.

Thanks for the ear wig, Rob. My coworkers are gonna kill me if I don't stop whistling "The Streets of Laredo."

I buy meats from the discount section, too, all except ground beef. I used to work in a grocery store and we were instructed to take the old ground beef that looked brown and add red food coloring to it and repackage it for sale. Granted, that was many moons ago and I doubt that stores do that any longer, but the thought of it still stops me from buying ground beef in the sale/discount section. Everything else is up for grabs, however.

As I walked out on the streets of Laredo.
As I walked out on Laredo one day,
I spied a poor cowboy wrapped in white linen,
Wrapped in white linen as cold as the clay.

"I can see by your outfit that you are a cowboy."
These words he did say as I boldly walked by.
"Come an' sit down beside me an' hear my sad story.
"I'm shot in the breast an' I know I must die."

"It was once in the saddle, I used to go dashing.
"Once in the saddle, I used to go gay.
"First to the card-house and then down to Rose's.
"But I'm shot in the breast and I'm dying today."

"Get six jolly cowboys to carry my coffin.
"Six dance-hall maidens to bear up my pall.
"Throw bunches of roses all over my coffin.
"Roses to deaden the clods as they fall."

"Then beat the drum slowly, play the Fife lowly.
"Play the dead march as you carry me along.
"Take me to the green valley, lay the sod o'er me,
"I'm a young cowboy and I know I've done wrong."
Rhonda - Here are the words in case you want to hum the correct ones.

"Then go write a letter to my grey-haired mother,
"An' tell her the cowboy that she loved has gone.
"But please not one word of the man who had killed me.
"Don't mention his name and his name will pass on."

When thus he had spoken, the hot sun was setting.
The streets of Laredo grew cold as the clay.
We took the young cowboy down to the green valley,
And there stands his marker, we made, to this day.

We beat the drum slowly and played the Fife lowly,
Played the dead march as we carried him along.
Down in the green valley, laid the sod o'er him.
He was a young cowboy and he said he'd done wrong.

Kim - I buy it all the time and sometimes it doesn't get cooked f or 2 or 3 days. Last day of sale doesn;t mean the same as a use by date. Just picked up a leg of lamb marked down from 21 to 10 dollars.

April - sorry about the ear wig but like Rhonda make sure you hum the correct words. I know what you mean about the ground beef. I'm careful which stores i buy that from.

I think it was the Carol Burnett show where they did a Spoof on The streets of laredo. The best line was " I see by your outfit that you are a cowboy.
If I get an outfit can I be a cowboy too?"

Just got back from a 5 1/4 mile walka t TAnglewood Park. Blustery fall day. way differnt from yesterday. Between the 20 mph gusts and the rain we had overnight, the trees lost half their leaves since yesterday.

Having chicken drumsticks with cabbage noodles for dinner tonight. Boring yes but easy.

in the same EWWWWWWWWWWWWW vein... i used to work at a VERY WELL KNOWN donut shoppe...
they used OLD STALE chocolate cake donuts.. threw them in a mixer.. ground them down... added chocolate syrup and MAYBE something else.. but pretty much i recall it being just the yuck crumbs and syrup... MASHED em into a brownie pan (huge of course ..it IS a big business) and I SWEAR TO GOD we left them to HARDEN up again... coated them with the chocolate frosting.... cut into big squares... and sold as BROWNIES...

oh man...

not a good memory...

this was a MAJOR.. i mean it IS a major donut company... franchise place..

ewwwwwwwwwwwww

Rob, you're despicable (uttered in my best Daffy Duck voice). Now I'm humming and whistling that dang song at home.

Kim - waste not want not! But they don;t sound liek any brownie I'd like to eat.

Berta - nice to "see" you.

April - Ok here's another ear worm - unchained melody. LOL I'm so mean

Since I was making such an easy meal of preseasoned (by the supermarket) chicken drumsticks I decided to do some tweaking of the sauteed cabbage. sliced the cabbage into thin strips and sauteed in butter for about 15 minutes then started adding everything in sight. soysauce, chipotle chili powder, red bell pepper garlic spice, frank's chili lime hot sauce, toasted sesame oil, chinese sesame spice blend among other things. It came out incredibly good. Wish I'd written down everything i put in there.

Brrr was 37 degrees here when i woke up. But stubborn me refused to put on the heat. Just ddi though because i need to take a shower and 65 is too cold for that. My supermarket has Turkeys on sale for 3 days at 19 cents a pound. But have to spend $25.00 on other stuff. at the price of food that won't be hard to do.

Wow - I'd be picking up a few turkeys! We invested in a freezer not to long ago, and I'm still having issues with not buying in bulk. At 19 cents a pound though - heck... I can just see opening my freezer and having 10 turkey's in there.... ROFLMAO

LOL Dee- 10 turkeys would require a heck of a lot of turkey dinners. Just got back from shopping and i paid $3.36 for an almost 18 pound turkey. And didn't buy anything I didn't need except for a bag of organic blueberries. normally wouldn't pay $6 a pound for frozen blueberries.

WHAT a guy! You tortuous individual, you.

It's now just after 1:30pm and have just stopped humming that one. I switched to the "Green Acres" tune and Larry and Bill have threatened to go home if I don't stop. I just said, "Oh, don't tease me."

Rob, I am still trying to wait for turkeys to go on sale here. Checked last weekend and they were $.99 a pound.... hopefully, they will come down before I have to purchase one for Thanksgiving dinner. I usually buy one that is 25 pounds or so..... lots of family to feed! Anyway my friend.... IT IS FRIDAY

I heard on the radio on the way home that turkey is on sale at Bigg's for .48 a pound. Forty-eight cents. I hope there's still some left when I go there tomorrow morning.
