Cool 2005, 2006, and Beyond

So I've been around, just not posting in my journal. Diligently reading other people's journals though. And I was going to update mine the other day when I realized it was titled 2004. And that's just soooooo last year.

So I opted to just start a new journal!

Last year, I had three resolutions:

1) Keep a journal for a year - I managed to keep one for 10 mths solid. Not bad. Would have been more but school and life got in the way.

2) Apply to graduate school and then actually go. Managed to do that! Just finished my first semester at Tufts! Whoo!!!

3) Lose all the excess weight. Last year I started out at 202. Last time I checked (two weeks ago) I was at 193. So 9lbs lost for the year. Not great, but better than nothing. It has also been 12 solid months since I was above 200. Another step in the right direction.

So I figure I had a 65% success rate on last year's resolutions.

This year, I'm going to resolve to:

1) Go to Opening Day - I have GOT to see the WS banner raised at Fenway.

2) Lose enough weight to fit into a size 10. I am at a 14/16 currently.

3) Keep this journal for the year

4) Find a husband. This one is going to be the hardest of them all. But it's worth a shot.

Edit: 2006. Alrighty then. As for those resolutions I did not do any of them. Whoops.

2005 WILL be a great year. Regardless of RJ going to the Yankees. Our team is kicka@@ this year! Yes, there are some snags. Clement is unproven in the AL and has a horrible goatee. Miller is a phenom in the making but injured. Schilling might not be back until May. The sight of Wells in Red Sox attire makes me gag but his numbers are fantastic and his contract is low risk. And we still have Wake and Bronson (who will be henceforth known as B. in this journal), ER is a great SS, Tek is back, Manny and Tizzle are still our 3&4 hitters, Damon will be roaming center, Trot should save us all from the horror of Millar in right, and we have the best back-up catcher in all of MLB. It's enough to make even Bellhorn crack a smile!

And in other news, I ate clean today. Fighting PMS and mad, mad cravings, but I hung tight. I walked back from class today and it was fantastic. So warm out there (for January in Boston) and I totally took advantage of it. Of course, my route home goes through Downtown Crossing, so I just had to go into the stores once there, but I refrained from buying anything. Yay me.

Anyhow, I ate:

3 eggs, scrambled with cheese for breakfast/lunch
1 roasted chicken legs and wing
Sausages and peppers & onions for dinner, with some steamed spinach on the side
Keifer and a really, really big tablespoon of pb for a snack.

Also had some diet Coke with Lime, coffee, and water to drink.

Cravings are severe right now. Plus my roommates have left a big bag of Reese's Pieces on the coffee table in front of me. Not to be mean or anything, I think they just got kind of left there. But it's not helping with the cravings.

I still haven't stepped on the scale since the last time I weighed. I'm not sure why I'm not stepping on. My clothes fit fine, so I know I'm not going to have it read like 900lbs or something. I know I'm in the 190's somewhere. But I still don't want to know the number. It's bizzare. Normally I don't care. But right now I do, so I'm avoiding it like the plauge.

No classes today, I was in lab all day and honestly did nadda. I was just so tired and not in the mood to be there. At all. So I kept messing around, avioding work for as long as possible. I did go to an interesting seminar on obesity and the various genes associated with it. The guy gave a really good talk. Normally seminars bore me to death, but this one held my interest the entire hour. He talked about this one gene (whose name escapes me right now) and how it increases the bodies sensitivity to insulin. Which is good because a lot of obese people suffer from insulin insensitivity. But when they overexpressed this gene in ob/ob mice, their body mass actually greatly increased. There was more to it. Fascinating.

FOOD!

bfast: coffee
lunch: salad with chicken on top
snack: will be some peanut butter
dinner: lc pizza quiche with spinach and sausage on top. That is just SUCH a filling meal. And now that it's just me eating it, I have enough for tomorrow's dinner and lunch one of the days this week. (probably Thursday)

Hola Chica! So long as I can keep piggybacking on this random stranger's wireless signal, the journal shall be written in! It's wrong, but it's free and I'm dead poor.

So let's wax poetic about my apartment tonight. I friggen LOVE it. Weird smells and all! My room is a closet but even that is great. Do you know I have to crawl OVER my bed to reach my dresser? My bed is as long as the room is wide! There's just something so perfect about that. The type of experience that you could only enjoy at 25. And I love that I have an upstairs and a downstairs. And a porch. It's not heated, but the dryer is out there and if you turn on the dryer, it's as good as heated (provided you are also bundled up in blankets).

Also, I wish I had moved into Boston earlier. I'm just having such a great time. I'm so close to everything. EVERYTHING. I still can't get over it. The other day I felt like shopping. So I walked across the street to Fanuel (spelled so wrong - I KNOW there's an 'i' in there someplace) Hall. And just walked around and shopped! It's so great!!! Literally right across the street!

And my butcher down below is a doll. I love that man. Every morning as I go to school, he waves to me. If I see him on the street, he actually stops and holds an actual conversation with me. He's like *this* big and round and just so grandpa-like. He also speaks with an Italian accent. It's the greatest thing in the entire world!

Blah. It's late and I"m tired, so that's it for tonight!

Food:

bfast: roast beef cold cuts and coffee

lunch: chicken ceasar salad

dinner: leftover mashed cauliflower, some of the pizza quiche from last night (okay a LOT of the pizza quiche - can we say PMS?), peanut butter, diet coke, and more coffee.

Oh, you should totally come for a visit! Boston is fantastic! So much to do!

Anyhow, the lab rotation I'm currently doing is a bioinformatics lab. Which means that it's all computer based research and not really bench based research. Which means that on days when we have nasty, yucky weather like we did today, I can stay home and chill in my jammies! It was fantastic. I slept in until like 11 or so, then got up, showered, got dressed, and watched t.v. until like 4pm or so. And then I did my work!

So really not much to say today, as I didn't really do anything. Oh, that's a lie. I did step on the scale. It told me I weighed 195. Which is fine. I knew I had gained weight over Christmas. I knew I was somewhere in that range anyhow based on how my clothes were fitting me.

Also lately I've gotten the travel bug. I totally want to take off someplace. Preferably someplace warm. Where I can lounge on a beach and drink pina coladas or frozen marguritas. Ahhh....wouldn't that be nice?

Anyhow, I'm poor, so that's not going to happen. At any rate, let's log my food.

bfast/lunch: the last of my pizza quiche (fare the well pizza quiche) and coffee.

snack: chicken leg and tbsp peanut butter (not at the same time though)

dinner: buffalo chicken wings, blue cheese dressing, lettuce with blue cheese dressing. diet coke with lime.

I'll probably have another diet coke or something. Maybe just some water. Perhaps more peanut butter. I feel randomly in the mood to munch. Probably because I've been sitting on my tush all day. Haven't had more than a glass of water today. Yeah, I'll have more water.

So last night I had one of those nights were I was totally asleep for the entire night, but it was just totally dream filled. I had one dream that featured Gabe Kapler of all people. I was at work and decided to take a nap under my desk (work? a desk?). And then I got up from my nap and decided to go lunch. Only apparently the company I worked for had a pool so I went swimming. And that's where Gabe Kapler comes in. He was just there and we had a totally boring conversation about the weather. And then I moved onto a new dream in which I had to buy a goat and I didn't want to because goats smelled and I had no need for one. But this lady kept telling me that I HAD to buy this goat. And I kept arguing with her. And then that was the end of that. I don't think I wound up buying the goat. But maybe I did. And there were a few more, but I can't really remember them now.

So last night we had a roommates night. Went to dinner and a movie. "Meet the Fockers". I have no idea if it was really that funny or if the fact that the entire audience was so into it made it that funny. At any rate, we had a good time. We rarely do stuff like that, so when we do, it's fun.

The older of my two roommates started Atkins yesterday. She doesn't need to lose much, but I've come to realize that it's better to fret over 10lbs than to wait until it's 30lbs or 50lbs or 100lbs. No matter how small the weight gain is, it means you've developed some bad habits. And it's better to nip them sooner than later. Anyhow, she's never done Atkins before, so this should be interesting. Esp. considering she used to live off steamed white rice and potatoes.

FOOD!

Friday:

bfast: ummmmm....coffee definately. Can't remember if I actually ate any food or not. Probably not. I was running waaaay late yesterday morning.

lunch: chicken ceasar salad

snack: seriously like a 1/3lb of cold cut roast beef and 1/3lb cheese rolled up together. SO much. But I was SO hungry! And then I had 2 cans of diet coke with lime and some peanut butter,

dinner: chicken piccatta and green beans and ceasar salad.

@the movie: coffee

Sat: (so far)

bfast: 5 small breakfast sausages and 4 egges, scrambled with cheese. Coffee with cream. It is going to be awhile before I have anything else to eat....

Opening day tickets will be the "bomb"! I can only imagine what seeing that banner go up will mean to every RS fan everywhere! 65% is better than ost people have and keeping weight off for a year is awesome even if it were only 9 lbs..the average person gaines about that every year! Keep up the good work and pray for a miracle for my Royals...and my huskers! LOL Glad to see you back--isn't grad school worth the hassles and hard work? I loved it!

Exactly. It's going to be such a moment. I have to be there. HAVE to. Hopefully I can score 2 tickets and can bring my dad. I plan to enlist a lot of help that day. I have a few friends who've promised to get up whatever day tickets go on sale (not set yet) and go online and/or call to try and help me. Hopefully one us will get through.

So I did nothing yesterday. Me and the roomies just chilled. Ate dinner, watched Eternal Sunshine of the Spotted Mind. LOVE that movie. And that was pretty much it. We had big plans to clean but somehow never worked up the effort. So we'll do that today. This place is a sty.

Also I want to find a gym that close to walk to. I am close to EVERYTHING in the entire world except for a gym! It's so annoying! I haven't had the time to really look, but I spent a good chunck of time yesterday trying to find a gym. Grrrrr... There's one on the water front side of the North End. That's not too far. But I don't know how I'd feel about going there by myself late at night or early in the morning. That's the caveat. It has to be close enough to walk to by myself at random hours. I think I might walk there on Wed. morning. I don't have class that morning, so I'm free until 11ish or so. That should give me enough time to take a stroll over and check it out. There's also a gym 1 T-stop up from school. But lugging my gym bag back and forth on the T seems less than ideal. Also, what on earth would I do with my bag during the day? I doubt I'd be able to afford to rent a locker on top of pgym fees, so I'd have to carry my bag around. And my gym bag is big. But that would work for the whole walking by myself thing as it is RIGHT by the T stop. Things that make you go hmmmm.....

FOOD!

Sat. (final)

dinner: chicken and cream cheese wrapped in bacon. From recipe section. Really good. Really good. I had thin sliced chicken breasts in my fridge already, so it was a chince to make. Next time I'm going to use more cream cheese filling though. And I'm going to buy chive cream cheese. That would taste the best I feel. Also, a salad. And approx. 913 cans of diet coke with lime. I was on a such a kick yesterday.

snack: some peanut butter.

Sun. (so far)

bfast/lunch: 3 scrambled eggs with cheese and salsa (not a good mix with the cheese I used. which was sad because I LOVE eggs and salsa). Coffee.

I'm going to make chicken salad later. So that'll be a snack/early dinner on celary sticks. Also I'm going to finish the chicken bacon things I made yesterday. Throw in a salad or a veggie or something and that'll round out my day.

RSF - one the people who works for me lives in the North End and goes to a gym there (not sure which one, could be the one on the waterfront) - she has never had any trouble with anyone either at night or early in the AM. Sounds like you are loving living in the city - I so miss it, though I work in the Back Bay, I live just east of Worcester. That makes for a long commute. Enjoy the upcoming week - it's pretty cool one your roommates is on Atkins - it's nice having an LC buddy.

Could you ask her the name of it? I'd really love to find one local enough that I could just walk to.

I'm sorry, but hands down, the BEST part of this WOE is chicken skin. That has got to be one of my favorite things in the entire world. Esp. fresh from the oven. Yummm....

Also, it's tad chilly in my apartment. How do I know this? I just ate a bite of my hot (as temp.) chicken leg and steam came out of my mouth. Perhaps I should turn on the heat for a bit.....

Furthermore, Dan Shaunessy (no idea if that's spelled right and I don't care) is a no talent hack with mush for brains. They should be after D-Lowe for the ALCS game 7 ball. That's the historic one. No team had EVER come back from being down 3 games to none in a 7 game series. Plenty of other teams have won a World Series. Hell, Boston won 5 of them before this last one. Talk about your typical over-blown Red Sox melodramatics. Topped with the fact that no one had even contacted Mientkiewicz about the before the story came out in the Globe - despite having TWO and a HALF MONTHS to do so - and you've got to insert one of those annoyed eye rolling smileys. When does spring training start again?

I should have gone to lab today but I have such a headache. So I begged out. Not that they care. Honestly. Someone needs to care! Blah. And I've got a presentation next Tuesday and one next Friday. Oy. Going to be a busy week next week. Very busy.

Food!

Sunday (cont.):

2 hotdogs with mustard, green beans with slivered almonds and a bit of butter, diet coke

2 celary sticks with peanut butter

2.5 celary sticks with chicken salad on them.

2 final chicken/cream cheese/bacon rollups. YUM!

Monday!

bfast: chicken salad, coffee

lunch: 2 small chicken legs, one small wing. Baby spinach salad with this weird olive oil dressing and motz. balls and peppers. Not very good actually. Diet coke.

soxfan, we don't know each other yet but I LOVE YOU!!!! I adore the Sox. Can you believe they are trying to take DM's ball back? What a bunch of jerks!

I have tix to see the Sox play the Blue Jays in March in training! I am so excited. I am dying to get to Fenway someday myself. It's a little far from Texas but I'm gonna get there...probably in 2007.

Let's chat!

I can always, always, always talk about my boys. I'm jealous of you going to ST. But then I"m jealous of everyone that's going. Warmth and sunshine and the Red Sox. A full month before the season starts and roughly a full 3mths or so before you get to watch the RS in the warmth and sun in Boston (so cold here in April and May). Sigh. I will watch on t.v. under my electric blanket and pretend.

I had something that I wanted to write about tonight. But now I've decided I really don't want to. No use whining about people that you thought were nice and turned out to be not so nice. Esp. not since my SIL and I have rehashed the problems those people caused all day long via email. I'm so sick of people today. SO sick of them.

In other, MUCH happier news that I haven't shared here, but have known about for awhile, my sister is pregnant!!! I'm going to be an aunt!!!!!! YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAY! She's due at the end of August so we've got a looooooooong way to go. But she just had her first ultrasound the other day and I got to see the photo and they heard heartbeat (120 beats per minute). I'm so excited I can't even put it into words. And the second we know if it's a boy or a girl, I'm buying a little tiny pink Red Sox hat or a blue Red Sox hat. Because I'm going to be the crazy auntie that makes this child a RS fanatic. I can't wait!

FOOD!

Sun. (cont.)

dinner: 2hot dogs, broccoli

snack: 2 celary sticks, way too much peanut butter

Monday:

bfast: chicken salad, coffee

lunch: stupid salad from Au Bon Pain. Almost $7 for lettuce and half an ounce (I kid you not) of chicken?

dinner: hamburger creation. I'll post what I can remember of what I did later. It involved hamburger, onions, green peppers, motz. cheese, and about a 1/3 - 1/2 a cup of pizza sauce, all cooked together, with some pizza seasoning thrown in for good measure. Spinach salad with black olives and blue cheese dressing.
