Default How do I keep a food journal?

Am new here with low carb and am wanting to begin a food journal but am not sure how to do it. Do I just write down everything I eat or what? Then what do I do after I write it down?
If anyone can help me out with this it would be greatly appreciated.

Sunny59,
To start a journal here, stay in this forum(journaling) and start yourself a new *thread* and title it anything you want...Sunny's Journal...or whatever.
Then yes, it's kind of like your personal diary or journal. Folks will *stop by* and post to you sometimes, and you can drop in and post in others as well.
Just remember, it is NOT private, but it is *your space* to record your thoughts and list your menus, etc

Welcome, you can use this many different ways,
as a tracker of what you ate, how you felt, if you cheat, what made you wnt to cheat, how you felt, how your day is going, just any thing you want to write is ok, this is your journal - could be about children doing something special, or not so special, could be about going on a trip and watching your food, could be about keeping track ofyour exercise...
Look thru some others, and see what we have used it for.
for tracking food there is a good one at fitday.com
lets youtrack your food, from eggs to nuts....
really and lets you add special foods that aren't in their listings...
so, how will you use this journal...
write down your goals, and see if you can make it to the end.
if not, why, what happened, etc. etc.
Ever have a diary when you were young... similar to that idea writing down things that affected you... come here every day, once a week, more what ever you want todo.
hope this helps.

To keep track of your foods, take a look at www.fitday.com. It's a little time consuming, but it's free and it's a good way to see how well you are doing with your carbs and calories.

Mary, my method is a little rudimentary, but it works for me.....I've been able to track down some culprits with it. For example, I seemed to be gaining weight, although I was on plan. So, I looked in my food journal at what I was eating when the gains began. The common denominator: lowcarb whole wheat tortillas.

It sure can clear up some mysteries! I use a fat little notebook. ($1 at the dollar store) and just put the date and my present weight at the top, then I list EVERYTHING I eat in it. Seeing it on paper doesn't allow me to forget!

Example:

B{everything I had for breakfast

A.M. Snack{

L{be sure to keep it with you and write it in when you eat it....it's easy to forget!

P.M. Snack{

Dinner{

This is just what I do. Alot of people use Fitday and seem to like it. HTH
