CAn we skip the rest of the week and pretend it is Saturday three days in a row??? I am certain that in time you will recover...it is very hard to lose a child...VERY hard. That process is different for everyone...it took me years to get over losing a baby but in time you do...not that you don't still miss and occasionally have bad days over that child, but you move on...the worst are the special days and thigns you know they will never do/will miss. Sorry...I just know that pain all too well. It is a pain I would never wish on anyone else...ever. Take care of you...take that walk and enjoy the peace of the woods alone!

Rhonda - Big {{{HUGS}}}, That must have been so horriffic for you. I can't begin to imagine.

I hear ya on the being dragged around by dogs. Sophie by herself is as much as I want to handle. But I have taken her and a friend's (heavier) dog out on walks together. The trick is to go somewhere they can get off the leash. There's a park about 10 miles from me that has mountain bike trails and during the week it's deserted. So sophie can do her own thing while I do mine.

(huggggggggggggggs) Rhonda....so sorry for your loss.

I had to "LOL" at the thought of taking Harliegh off her leash! If your bassets are anything like mine, she'd be gone in a heartbeat with her nose leading the way. My vet even educated us on the fact that they aren't good dogs to be off of a leash unless extremely well trained because they completely lose focus while sniffing something out.

Can't ever let my basset/beagle Gusgus off his leash. When he gets loose, he lets me get just close enough so I think I have him..then off he goes again! I'm sure the whole neighborhood gets great entertainment watching me try to catch him..usually in the pouring rain!
    Enjoy your walk!

I have the same problem with my corgi, Crystal. He has a warped sense of humor and enjoys watching me run while crouched over to grab him

I hope your day is going well Rhonda. Lots of hugs. You really are so brave

You guys are all the BEST! I cherish each of you

Today was "take your kid to work day"....... so took the 8 year old..... boy, did he get bored fast! Told him I had a boring office job, but he just wouldn't listen. Must have made 3 trips to Osco for snacks, books, etc. for him today. Sure he won't want to go with me next year

The office catered in Mexican food from Chili's.... I didn't even go in there cause I knew, while I wouldn't eat it... I would WANT to.... Sent the child in there and he made his own little plate and then came back into my office to eat it....Wasn't as bad smelling it as ff's, but it was a little tough. I, of course, had my salad with some albacore tuna and 1/2 cup of cottage cheese and didn't feel so deprieved..... know it was MUCH healthier for me to eat what I had and don't have heartburn tonight for doing so

Tonight making some chicken tenders (unbreaded of course) with some l/c cheese sauce and broccoli. Will add a side of pasta for the kiddos.

Gregg, still misty and raining off and on all day, but determined to get my walk in tonight (Thank you Rob for the inspiration!) You are right though Gregg, the trees are loving it!

Yeah, never let my Basset hounds off their leashes....When I first moved here, in the middle of the forest, they would catch a drift in the wind of a wild animal and bold out the door... well..... one night when they did it, I chased and chased them ..... no flashlight, just me and the night and following their baying.... finally, they stopped at the creek. At least, they either had enough sense, or too lazy to swim across the great divide..... They soon realized they were going to be punished severely for bolting out of the front door....... made the spend the night outside in the backyard after one great adventure..... Of course, I couldn't sleep all night with the whinning and all, and glad I have no neighbors in close proximity, but I think it taught them a valuable lesson

Thanks to each of you for taking the time to post in my journal and to be my friend.... you'll probably never know how much that means to me!

Hugs and love to each of you.....

    I remain the Texanflowr.......

Rhonda - Sophie used to run off all the time but as she got older she got more obedient. It helps that she has abandonment issues, me being her third owner. When I first got her at 5 months old we'd go to the lake and if she strayed too far ahead of me I'd hide behind a tree and she'd come running looking for me, looking panicked. It was cruel but to this day she will keep me in sight at all times. When she goes around a curve she'll stop and wait until I'm close and then go around the curve. If she doesn't do that I'll often turn around and go back the way we came. Then she'll realize after a few minutes and run back to me and give me those jumping puppy nips on my arm as if to say "You Bas*a*d. Then she'll run and get a stick to play fetch so I'll know she's only playing.

Rob, I think that was a very wise thing you did with Sophie... I can understand the abandonment issues too. I know I told you the story about my twins and them being puppy mill dogs ending up at the humaine society.... Poor things had never had any love or attention until they became my children ..... I do love them so.... just as you do Sophie. In fact, they are now lounging on the sofa. Had to buy an extra big one so that both of them had plenty of room because they ALWAYS sleep together. They aren't too fond of the futon, but still make it to my room sometime during the night to snuggle with me

Welcome Alcmene While my journal isn't by far one of the longer ones, you are sure to find some "interesting reading" in here to say the least! Glad you stopped by. Visit me often

Well gang, time to get out the door to my busy Friday. Will stop in and see each of you today.... promise

Love and Hugs to each of my friends....
    Rhonda

funny the sense fo humor animals seem to have...my cat lives to wait til I am almost asleep to start crying for me to pay attention to him...who can sleep with a male cat yowling in the hall sitting on the banister outside the bedroom door...except DH that is. When I come out to grab him...he jumps downa nd runs down the steps...he the second time will bring me his toy to be flopped on the floor for a few minutes...then he is happy and will go to bed and sleep...or at least leave me alone all night the rest of the night...he is a spoiled brat.

Lori..... mine are ALL spoiled too..... wouldn't have it any other way tho..... I chose them.... they didn't choose me.......I choose them Let's see..... let me introduce you to my children....... there is "Rowdy" who is a 10 year old cockatail..... ummm he has picked up my accent, as well as my verbage Quiet talkative..... Then there is Millie and Aspen (the kitties) "Millie" is a himalayan, just beautiful..... blue eyes and all....... adopted her from an animal rescue.... and then there is "Aspen". Aspen is a himalayn manx..... found her on the side of the road in the middle of the winter :( Of course, you all know my beloved twins ........ Beau and Bear As you see, I am one that cannot refuse a homeless or neglected animal. Stopped at Petsco on the way home tonight, so all concerned are VERY happy. Bought all their special foods and treats and spent my paycheck doing so *L* Well, they are worth it! Always promised myself if I could not properly take care of an animal, I wouldn't have one..... so far..... kept my promise.

Okay..... off for my walk and then MAJOR posting in all my friends journals! HAPPY WEEKEND!

Hey Rhonda....you may be getting a basset hound shipped your way.

I was putting clothes away and hubby came in to help me. Elana was laying on the floor on a blanket in the next room drifting to sleep. Suddenly we hear her screaming and there's the basset ON TOP OF HER humping away! My hubby is LIVID.

Harliegh's been warned....if she's found touching Elana again, she's out of here.

awwwww be GLAD to have her Michelle.... I can certainly understand your concern with an infant tho..... however well behaved my "other" children were..... never trusted them alone with an infant..... sad, but that is just the nature of the beast. Sure she meant no harm :( Hugs to you GF and she is always welcomed to spend a little quality time with my two bad boys
