Well, I'm back on track with the water and I'm beginning to exercise a little. So some things are looking up.

On the down side, my husband forgot our anniversary. So did I. Our kids forgot too. Oh well there's always next year. At least there was no cake to tempt me.

Really this is what usually happens and then we go out on a different night and eat at a special restaurant.

Our computer is not working right. Something about the hard drive crashing. Don't know what that means but I have only been able to use the computer sparingly.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Hi Rob, don't know that the computer problems are completely fixed, but I'm here!

Hope your Sunday is going great.

We are in a miserable heat wave and it's humid. On the good side though my joints aren't hurting.

We are planning a trip to the Milwaukee Zoo Tuesday. I'm sooo thrilled. We all love animals. My favorite at the zoo is the Bonobos, a type of chimp. They are so beautiful to watch and they are entertaining too.

I plan on eating low carb at the zoo but I am a little worried that I might not be able for some reason. I don't know why I wouldn't be able to they should have low carb there.

I hope the computer problems get fixed. Hopefully I'll be here tomorrow.

We went to the zoo yesterday. We all had a good time and really enjoyed the animals. We saw a male and female lion fighting over a bone. The female lion came right up to the glass. She was less than two feet away from me. Good thing there was glass between us. We saw a few baby animals. They were so cute.

I started out walking but after an hour or so I had to get a wheelchair and still ended up hurting. I was very tired too. I didn't plan on cheating but I did. So now again I have to go back to induction for a few days. I was doing good too.

Well I'm back on induction today. Day one.

Glad you had a good time at the zoo! I love zoos!

Sorry you had such pain, though. I had some excruciating pain in my knees and all around, above and below, for several days, so bad that I skipped exercise yesterday altogether, and had cut way back for the few days before. And then this morning the pain is gone. Why, I do not know. We don't have any weather changes, it's been hot and hotter, and very dry, so it's not rain coming in. I never knew osteoarthritis could be so unpredictable!

Induction is what works best for me. I seem to have an extremely slow metabolism, even adding exercise, so fewer carbs works best for me. So far it's not been too boring, as long as we can get fresh veggies, or good frozen ones.

You're losing nicely - slow and steady, the best way to lose, because you're more likely to keep it off.

I'm cursed with computer problems again. I couldn't even post in my own journal yesterday.

    Hi Nita,

I guess we have the same thing OA and a slow metabolism. I have arthritis in every joint. This summer has been just awful for me in that regard. I'm actually looking forward to fall. In fact I started a challenge to myself to remain cheat free for the next 63 days, which coinsides with the first day of fall. I don't think I'll post that challenge here though just in my journal. If I'm successful with that I may start a challenge in the challenge section.

    Have a good weekend.

Back again. I've been on induction for six days. I'm trying to lose the weight I gained after the zoo trip. I think I gained a total of 5 pounds. The scale is not my friend.

I exercised Saturday, doing pilates. It's so easy to do that I really have no excuse.

It's a week later and I finally lost all the weight I gained. I had a good day yesterday.

    -ate on plan
    -drank 60 ounces of water
    -hung out the wash
    -mostly pain-free

I'm tired of summer. It's been so hot that we have taken to watching Christmas movies. Kind of a Christmas in July thing. Actually I will watch any movie with cold/snow in it. I think it's 61 days till fall. Can't wait.

At least you get fall when it's due. In Texas it can still be hot well into October. I love November here because it's usually just perfect weather. Last year we had a horrible heat wave in late September. Our grandbaby was born on the 21st and it was in the 100s! That's really bizarre for that time of year. Then Hurricane Rita hit the south coast, and we didn't get any relief from the heat and drought. Not even residual clouds! Sigh. We haven't had a decent winter since the mid 1980s. I can usually get by with a jacket or sweater most of the year. Occasionally need a coat, but not often.

You are doing so good! I've also had some mostly pain-free days and it is so nice! Of course, that could change any minute.....

I'm hanging in there. I didn't feel well yesterday and was cranky too. I didn't drink all my water yesterday. Today I have to be outdoors in the heat so I'm not looking forward to that.

I have noticed that when I walk up the basement stairs and then go to bed I'm not as winded as I used to be. I would sometimes be gasping for air or breathing really hard. Now I don't do that anymore. I also noticed I can sing louder and stronger. I used to get winded doing that too. Of course I can't sing and when I do I hurt people's ears. Poor things.

Hi Babystepping...first of all, thank you so much for your encouraging PM to me. It means alot to get understanding from others.

I know exactly what you mean about the stairs. When I first started walking and taking the trolley I would be GASPING for air bigtime when I climbed the stairs at the trolley station...I actually thought that maybe I needed to have an EKG to make sure I wasn't going to have a heart attack! But now I can do it without feeling like I'm gonna die

I hope you feel better soon

    Thanks Vicki and your welcome.

I'm a little bored with food right now. That or I've lost my appetite. Does anyone know of some cool summer foods?

    Babystepping,

I just read your whole journal, and I want to tell you you're doing great! You have obstacles to overcome (like your arthritis) and you're working through and past them. What an inspiration! Now I really feel bad for being so whiny about my cold and sore throat in my journal.

Don't know where you are with the whole scale/weighing thing, but I actually weigh every day. Then, once a week I enter the numbers into an excel spreadsheet which gives me a 7-day average for my weight. I got this idea from the Hellers (carb addicts diet), and it works real well for me. Since weight can fluctuate from day to day, I think this give a better perspective (if you can handle the fluctuations). If you're interested, I could email you the spreadsheet.

As far as summer food goes, I like chicken salad, coleslaw, and creamy cucumber salad. Probably nothing new, cool, or exciting... but it's good for me. Things on the grill are always good to. I have a recipe for cajun pork chops on the grill that's good.

Well, just want to get to know you a bit better and encourage you to "keep on keeping on!"

    Babystepping,

    More thoughts...

Are you still tired a lot? If so, have you thought about being tested for low thyroid? That *could* also be part of the slow weight loss. Just a thought.

Also, do you by any chance do FlyLady? Just curious.

And, lastly for now... have you seen this website Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes ? It's a great resource. You might want to check it out if you haven't already.

    Have a great day!
