Returnee.

Have had great success with LC (Atkins), but tend to lose focus several months after achieving goal weight due to work, family, beer, etc.

Journaling sounds like a great way to track progress and check in...so I'm gonna give it a try.

Induction, Day #1 on Sunday, 10/22/06: Great food day, and had a 30 minute moderate workout session. Lotsa water, and I feel energized already just knowing I'm ON TRACK.

Hi MortNuke - welcome to journalling - its a great way to keep track of eating patterns. There are software programs that help to keep track of calorie/carb intake - but I'm not aware of any other format that helps track patterns and trends of eating. Knowing how we eat and why is often very useful in managing weight! Feel welcome to visit 'downunder' anytime!

Welcome, Mort.

Thanks, everyone. Appreciate the support.

Day #2: Food intake was ok, but when I stopped at the diner for a Western Omlette this morning, I noticed some tomatoes mixed in with the ham, onions and green peppers. I think the onions and green peppers in such a small amount were ok, but if I go there again I'll have them hold the tomatoes.

DW intended to get some staples for me, but was too tired...so I'm flyin' fast and loose with what I find in the kitchen (eggs and steak) until we get some fancier stuff, like lettuce.

I am working nites, and luckily they supply us with bottled water - so I'm taking advantage and making sure to get at least 80 oz (4 20-oz bottles) while at work each day.

Since I don't normally stray too far from basic LC WOE, I don't really have any carb or sweets addictions to break during Induction...I just want to jump-start the weight loss process and return to more stringent WOE practices. At my house, we always keep splenda around for coffee, cooking and cereal, and usually drink soda products, like Coke, that contain splenda.

My vice is beer. My beer of choice is Sam Adams lager or Michelob Amber Bock. Of course, I'll abstain during Induction, then afterward switch to flavor-free Miller Lite. After 2 or 3 weeks of no beer, even that tastes good.

Mort, have you tried the Michelob Ultra? I'm not a beer fan, and DH drinks in occasionally, but he seems to like it ok.

A little tomato in an omelet is ok on induction; you just don't want to be eating lots of them. Just a little onion and tomato for flavor, though, is just fine.

Hang in there!

QueenMama: The Mich Ultra is just "allright" to me. I've developed a taste for somewhat dark beer, so lite beers that I've tried so far are pretty watery to me.

Induction, Day 4

The initial "water-loss whoosh" has ocurred. My first weight checkin since beginning showed a drop from initial weight of 218 to 211 lbs. The jeans are slipping down, too. May need to cinch up the belt one hole soon.

Exercised today with some basics, squats (bar only), good mornings (bar only), pushups, dumbbell curls, tricep presses and core abs. I set a time limit of 30 minutes due to Induction stress, but went over to about 45 minutes since I still felt pretty good. Actually, I'm feeling very little stress due to Induction...Likely because I don't stray too far from LC WOE even when I'm off plan.

Eating has been good. Instead of re-inventing the wheel, I've just been sticking with the basics: Steak, tuna, eggs, salad and some veggies, water, Coke with Splenda, and Centrium twice per day. This is not a struggle for me in the craving sense...but it poses a challenge to have it on hand at all times, and planning ahead when I leave the house, like going to work. I'm sure you all know exactly what I mean, it takes a good deal of planning to eat fresh healthy food instead of out of a box or processed items.

Energy Level: I'm so excited to be back on plan, that my attitude and health-focus are at a peak. Nothing goes into my mouth (well...tummy) unless it contributes to my energy or nutritional needs. One exception is the sunflower seeds my dw added to a salad...I ate it, but next time gently asked her to hold them during induction.

I like this journaling. It is only for myself, but others are welcome to share and comment - I like that. Folks who take the time to share their experience and encourage others are the backbone of this site, and WOE.

Induction, Day 5.

Food today was marginal...Steak and eggs for breakfast, an overly large and vegetable-laden salad for lunch that likely went over 20 carbs from a salad bar place called Jason's Deli. Pre-dinner snack was some chicken strips that had a touch of BBQ sauce, and 2 deviled eggs. Finally, end the day with a Ribeye steak from Sports Page.

Working night shifts here at work with Test Group. I'm scheduled for 8 straight nights except one day off halfway through, all 12 hour shifts. So I'll be depending on DW to help keep the kitchen stocked, and she helps prep my lunches at work, and remind the kids that I've not abandoned them, lol.

The clothes feel better already, and things are going in the right direction if I can stay disciplined, and not overeat the veggies and salad dressings.

Induction, Day 6

Feeling really good! The focus on eating the right foods is carrying over to other things like water intake and exercise. The scale said 215 lbs., but everything is already feeling better, like clothes. I know there is progress being made, and it is very encouraging to stay the course.

Today's food intake was good: scrambled eggs with cheese, bacon; Salad with veggies and ranch dressing; 3 deviled eggs, some turkey (with gravy that I scraped mostly off), and green beans...and at least 60 oz of water.

Still on track...our work bought us all pizza today. I just ate the meat off the pepperoni and meat lover's pizzas. About 6 pieces. Gotta run.'
