Default Nita's Try Harder Journal

I decided to start a new journal, as it seems to be the thing to do!

I am going to try harder to stick to this lc woe, and to exercise. But, small steps as far as the exercising goes.

I also plan to eat more veggies, and to skip treats. Yes, I can live without sweets, millions of people survive without sweets, it won't kill me to not have sweets, even lc sweets.

Last night we were coming home from San Antonio, stopped at a German restaurant in Fredericksburg and had the sausage plate. The meal started out with a really nice dinner salad, then a plate with 3 different sausages. I believe they were knockwurst, bratwurst, and smoked sausage, with a pile of sauerkraut. I was somewhat disappointed that there were caraway seeds in the sauerkraut. I'm not a fan of caraway, but the taste wasn't overwhelming, so I ate it anyway. Could not finish the last few bites! We didn't even take the napkin off the basket of bread. The people next to us opened theirs and it looked like it might have been pumpernickel, which is fine, because I DO NOT like pumpernickel! While we were in Fredericksburg, we stopped at the HEB grocery store and bought some fresh veggies (brussels sprouts, peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers), some cream to get me through this week, and we found some frozen rhubarb and cranberries. And I nearly wiped out their La Tortilla Factory tortillas. I bought somewhere around 12 to 15 packages, some plain, some onion, some garlic & herb, and some bigger plain ones. They are happily living in my freezer, waiting for me to use them for breakfast burritos, or to spread some olive spread on them and make rollups, or to use for a bun for hot dogs.......can't wait!

We were sure we would see lots of deer on the trip home, since most of it was at night, but didn't see any until about 20 miles from home, then saw one group of about 6 and another lone one. Since the moon was gibbous and high in the sky, we figured we'd see a lot more. It was a beautiful, clear evening and we had a really nice drive home. We were in bed and sawing logs by 11:30, zonked out and didn't even hear any of the neighbor's firecrackers. A nice, peaceful weekend finished off by a peaceful night.

Today DH is going to try to fix the fuel line on his tiller. I told him I want a small garden this year, some zucchini, yellow squash, green beans, and he'll have his tomatoes in his Earth Boxes. And I want a few plants of dill. Just a little so we have some nice fresh veggies. At one time we planted nearly our entire back yard in garden, with lots of lettuce, green beans, peppers, etc. But we got too busy to keep it up, and now our back yard has a big workshop sitting where the garden used to be, so our space is somewhat limited, but there is enough room for a small patch.

Gonna go have breakfast, get some laundry caught up, maybe sweep and mop some floors. Just all kinds of fun awaiting me!

Have a great New Year Nita! :jump: See you are off to a great start. I'm going to work on not having treats even in the house for the kids. They'll get plenty at school and while visiting grandparents. I'm hoping they won't know what comfort foods are in their grown up years. They don't need to diet but they don't need junk for fuel either.

I have a lot of chores to get caught up on before DH comes home and catches me playing all day on the computer. Want to exercise and get a shower in too. And we're off...... (like we're in the horse races )

Have a great day Nita!

Hi Nita,

Yes, starting a new journal and catching up on chores seems to be the order of the day for a lot of us and me too. 2007 is going to be a great year, I can just feel it!

What better thing can we low carbers wish for in the coming months than health?

I bought some fat free Calorie Countdown milk, mainly because that's all this local grocery stocks, besides the chocolate. But it's absolutely no good for in coffee. It's so watery, you might as well drink the coffee black. So, I filled a 2 cup bottle with the milk, then added in about 1/4 cup heavy cream. I plan to use that in my coffee and tea, hoping that the reduction in fat might make a difference. One can only hope!

DH is leaving after lunch to TX A&M in College Station for his annual pest control training. He has to be licensed to do any pest or weed control at work, and has to keep up his CEUs every year. He's taking one of his men with him, who is trying for his license, too. It will be a big help (if he passes his test and gets the license) to have another man available for this. All we do for pest control is to spray vacant units if they have a bad roach infestation, put out baits & gel in occupied units if necessary, and put bait out for the fire ants and carpenter ants, as well as occasionally spray the weeds.

Anyway, I'm on my own for the rest of the week after lunch today. That means not sleeping - and it's not because I'm afraid to be alone - it's because I'm used to that warm body snoring next to me, and when he's not there, the whole universe is out of kilter!

The boss is out this week, too. She has an ill family member who needs her to take him for tests in Houston, so she'll probably be out all week. I sure hope it's a quiet week.

Breakfast will probably be some breakfast casserole and more coffee. And water, water, water! I need to drink lots more, I"ve been remiss the last several days.

Good morning Nita.. I absolutely love the idea of mixing a little bit of cream in the countdown milk! I just spoke outloud to my computer saying, "That is a GREAT idea!"
I am going to the store for a few supplies today and now countdown milk is on my list.

I know what you mean about not being able to sleep when DH is away....I feel the same way when Vern is gone. He doesn't ever go away for the whole night but sometimes he has gigs that last very late into the wee hours of the morning and I find it so hard to sleep on those nights. Things just aren't right in my world until he's home and we are snuggled up in bed with cats all over the place!

Have a great week my friend

Hi, Gregg, great seeing ya! Vickie, you have a good week, too.

Today was a good day. I had the casserole for breakfast, and we finished it off for lunch. Half an avocado, too. Supper was tuna salad, spicy pork rinds, and jicama. Very, very good. Calories a tad high, perhaps, but carbs moderate, no more than 25.

I even got in an entire 10 minutes on my Gazelle! It's been weeks & weeks since I exercised, so I'm getting back to it really, really slow. Eventually will get up to 30 minutes at least 5 days a week.

Tomorrow is going to be a really busy day, so I'm going to try to get a good night's sleep.
