Last week I went way, way overboard, again. I had sweets no less than 4 times, and bread twice. And potatoes once. And gained 3 lbs. Then came home, got back to low carb, but ate too much, and gained another 2 lbs! Yikes! It's all come off now, but still, it's no way to treat an aging body, now, is it?

I've been on induction since Monday, trying to keep my carbs at a more realistic level for me. Which is 20 or so. So far so good.

We finally got some rain (yes, on the days we were out of town, we got the most!) And the temperatures have gone down, although with the humidity, it feels hotter in the 90s than it did in the 100s. And you sure do sweat more when it's humid! Although sometimes I nearly freeze in the office. The boss is in menopause, so hot flashes are a frequent thing, and she cranks the ac down to 73. Then she goes back to her own office, and here I am sitting in the front office with icicles on my nose! Oh well, she does go back and forth between the offices a lot, so if she needs it to be comfortable for her, then so be it. I can always put on a sweater if needed.

Well, my daughter & family got their house, and are starting to move today. I volunteered to make them lunch. I can't do much moving & carrying, but I can cook! I'm going to do a good stir fry, nice & spicy.

We had a lovely rain last night. I hope we get more. We need lots more. I love a nice, slow rain. It's so comforting to listen to it.

I've been on induction for most of the week, and so far so good. Didn't weigh this morning, though. I made the old OMM for breakfast, so I should be good until lunch. Now I'm guzzling coffee. Chocolate velvet flavor. When dh isn't here, I can indulge in flavored coffee. He hates it!

Better take some meat out of the freezer to thaw for lunch!

We've started a September Challenge, if anyone wants to join us. Pick your own personal challenge, and jump on board!

Last night dd2 made turkey for supper, and steamed cabbage, I made a jicama Waldorf salad. We ate until we about popped. It was nice not having to cook, and to have a good supper with family.

This morning was the OMM with a tiny bit of sf blackberry preserves on top. Just a tsp or so. Made it extra good. We are putting aside the decaf this morning and having regular coffee.

Gotta go help dd1 with her moving - I think I'm going to go and line her shelves & drawers so we can unpack the dishes.

It's Thursday already! This week just flew. Perhaps it's because we had Monday off. I love short weeks, except when my desk is piled high with files and papers!

I found some Greek yogurt at WalMart, first time I've seen it there, and I really do like it. I want to try to have a bit each day, to keep my innards in good working condition.

I'm having trouble waking up in the morning, I suppose due to the fact that mornings are darker now with the sun rising a bit later each morning. I do best waking with the sun. I know many people love the longer days of summer, but I still prefer the shorter days of fall & winter, days to snuggle up in the house, keeping warm from the cold outside. I always look forward to the cooler part of the year. There is just nothing better than walking out the front door to cool, crisp fall air.

The scales are just sitting in the same spot. I guess my body likes this weight. I don't. I'm tired of it.

Nita, my scales seem to be doing the same thing, don't they know their in danger of being destroyed if they don't move????? Would at least like to throw them accross the room just once!

My scales are too big to throw, unfortunately! They are like the ones in the doctor's office, but shorter.

Had lots of snacks last night, waiting for dh to get home. Bubba had a cheese stick, we shared a OMM, a lc brownie, some nuts, and he had a pbj sandwich. Eventually dh & I had a cheeseburger and a tomato. This morning we had shakes - whey protein powder, yogurt, almond milk and orange drink for flavoring. Boy, it was good!

Gotta go shower & help dd1 with her unpacking.

Helped DD1 do some unpacking, watched the kiddo while they moved more stuff, spent Sunday feeling lousy, watched the kiddo for a couple of hours while they did some more moving stuff.

Ate a lot of fiber over the weekend. I'm finding that too much is almost as bad as not enough! Had it in the form of bran crisps, and just overdid it.

We got our half cow, the freezer is full. And I ordered a new cook stove so I'll have an oven for all those roasts. It'll probably be in the store for pick up Wednesday or so. Gotta drive 50 miles to get it, but it's still cheaper than paying for delivery and installation. Not much to hooking up a stove, other than doing that anti-tip thing on it. This stove has 5 burners, with a center oval burner for a griddle pan. Great! Now I can have my grill pan on the stove, and still use all my burners.

Now that I have all that beef, guess I need to decide what to have for supper. Actually, I have a chicken in the freezer that I probably ought to get cooked up soon. It's been in there awhile. But, it'll have to wait until I have a working oven.

We go tomorrow to pick up the stove. So by the weekend I'll be able to make a roast, roast a chicken, perhaps even bake a panful of muffins. Perhaps I'm getting a bit too ambitious here!

The weight is stable, no losses, but sitting still is better than gaining. I read recently that if you have the fat gene (I think half of mine are fat genes!), then you'll have to do 3 to 4 [i]hours[i] of moderate each day to lose weight. Who in the world has time to do that much exercise in a day? Especially with a desk job. I guess I could get up at 5, exercise for 2 hours, then do 2 more in the evening. Yikes! How about spending time with family? Their suggestion is to take a brisk walk instead of watching tv. Hmmm, I usually watch tv after dark, we have dogs that run loose in our neighborhood, in the summer it's way too hot to walk before about 7 p.m., walking early in the morning before I'm awake just won't cut it.....how about people who live in areas of high crime? I guess they need to walk briskly, just to keep away from the thugs! And those who live way out in the boonies, they have to contend with all sorts of wildlife, so brisk walking should also be advised! In both cases, perhaps jogging or running would be better! Looks as though my fat gene will take over, because there ain't no way I'm gonna get in 3 - 4 hours of exercise a day.

We may or may not get any rain from Ike. I hope we do, though.

Lisa, we are at the very edge of the expected path, only 50% chance of rain here. We were hoping for a good soaking, but looks like we won't get much.

You stay safe, too!

We have been so worried about dh's sister & husband, and their son, all in the path of Ike. They are ok. Dsil & dbil spent time in 2 different shelters, and now they are shipping them to San Antonio. (He finally called this morning!) We told them we would come and get them, that they could stay with us. They are elderly, in frail health, and need to be in a stable environment. I hope they call and tell us to come get them. They are supposed to be without power for 2 weeks, and they live about an hour north of Houston. It's scary to think what those poor people in Galveston are going through.

I've been cooking on the new stove, loving it. Made a roast yesterday, it was perfection. Roasted some cauliflower in the oven, too, and it was divine. It's nice having good tools in the kitchen.

Well, gotta go write 2 letters to tenants about their dogs. One is feeding hers outside, a no-no, and one family has 2 dogs, no pet deposit, no pet registration, no nothing, and one of the dogs bit another tenant's child. She didn't call the police or anything, dumb little girl, because she doesn't have a phone. I told her to go to the police station and file a report. Now I have to write a letter and threaten eviction for violation of the lease and pet policy. Some days I hate my job, some days I love it. This is one of the hate days.

Nita - So glad to hear about Dan's sister. Living in a shelter must be inconvenient to say the least. Hope they take you up on your generous offer. Good to see you cooking up a storm.

Rob, thanks for stopping by.

I told dh to call his sister today, to check up on them. I really want them to come up and stay with us, even though they do drive me crazy! I'm really worried about their health, but they seem happy to be where there are nurses round the clock. And they are very social people, anyway. They'll probably make a lot of new friends there.

Last night I needed a quick supper, in a hurry because I was so hungry, so I browned sausage patties and then some broccoli, and scrambled eggs. I took some of the eggs & sausage and stashed in the fridge, had them for breakfast. I couldn't eat them all, and it wasn't a big plateful, either. I really enjoyed the broccoli with the eggs last night. I should have cooked more and had some with breakfast. I'm really going to try to have better breakfasts, with more protein.

We still need to have our roofs replaced. We talked to our contractor friend, the one who did our floors, and he should be getting to us soon. We still need to decide on shingles, and see how long it will take to get some. He's recommending dimensional shingles. I'd really like to do a metal roof, but our contractor isn't set up for that, and the cost is prohibitive, anyway. It's going to be a mess, I know, but he's good to keep the mess to a minimum. Now that it's so much cooler, lows in the 40s & 50s, highs in the 80s, that it should be a lot easier for his crew. I did not want them working in 100+ weather. His crew are all friends of ours, and I did not want them getting sick from the heat!
