Default Felonee's Findings

Okay... so I'm back. Y'all knew that I would eventually come back, right? Where to start... I guess at the beginning, since that would be the *logical* place.

I hit my 50 pounds lost mark... and we've all seen it before... someone hits a huge milestone, falls down and can't seem to get back up again. I didn't just fall down, I fell down a 100 foot cliff, and boy was it a long climb back up!

I got down to 222. And I couldn't stay there. My blood sugars were all over the place, and this was while staying true to plan. I bounced back up into the 230's and no matter what tweaks I tried, I just couldn't get back down into the 220's. I thought I finally had this thing licked, that I was finally going to achieve my goals, and my body had other plans for me.

I ended up down to 800 calories a day while staying low carb, just to stay in the 220's. That of course was impossible to maintain for any length of time, and I gave up. Yeah, I gave up. Again.

But I didn't totally give up. I wasn't following any meal plan, and I ate some junk, but the whole time I was researching and trying to find something that I could do for the long term. We all know that if you can't do it in the long term, that it doesn't matter how much weight you lose, cause you'll gain it all back.

I'm no longer an "Atkid". I live on the "Beach" now. I've been doing South Beach for about 2 months now, and when you're used to the huge losses that you can get on Atkins, this seems torturously slow sometimes. I started on the beach at 254.7 pounds! I'm at 238 (approximately) as of this morning. 2 months to lose 17 pounds seems awful when I can remember losing that much on 1 week of induction.

South Beach is not so horribly different from Atkins maintenance except there are guidelines for portion control. I have to eat 3 meals a day, 3 snacks, and I can have a "treat" at night. It's not for everyone, but for now it's working for me. I don't count calories or fat or carbs or anything else. I eat what I'm supposed to eat 99% of the time, and now if I slip up at a meal, I get right back on for the next meal instead of feeling like I've blown my whole day or my whole week.

So... I'm back.

so glad to see you back here, been wondering about you... I know what you mean about getting to that milestone and then all h_ll breaks loose....I too had problems staying at a certain point, but mine was mostly "i can eat a little of that" imp sitting on my shoulder telling me it is ok to eat that... he has been knocked off and I have been back on track since jan 29th, no sugar 31 days now....
Glad to hear you found something that will work for you... I have continued on the Atkins road, tho somewhat slower than the first time around, that is ok for me, I am not going any where fast, and you know, slow sometimes wins the race....
again welcome back, will talk to you later.

Hey, Katie! It sure is good to see your smiling face back here!

I'm looking into the Protein Power plan. It is still quite low carb, but not as low as Atkins induction. You have to space your carbs out throughout the day, (to keep your blood sugar stable) they suggest 7-10 per meal/snack. So, as soon as I'm out of my cold-induced mental fog, I'm going to give it a try.

I hope you enjoy being at the "Beach"! Welcome home.

BTW, I saw your blog featured on Jimmy Moore's Carbwire a week or 2 ago, so I knew you were still alive and kicking!

Hi Katie!
Glad you've found something that is working for you. I'm still working on finding what will work for me these days. Maybe a trip to the Beach might be worth a try.

Wow, Nita! My poor little lonely blog was actually featured on someone else's blog??? Holy smokes, Batman!

So glad for the visitors

Yeah, Rob... this is for a lifetime. Hopefully I have a LONG life, so I have time to get there

My scale died and I'm still plugging along with only a vague idea of what I weigh. I don't have any plans to buy a new scale, I figure if I want a to know what I weigh, I can always get the school nurse to let me use her scale when I'm there picking up the kidlet.

OMG!!! There is someone reading my blog!!! How funny is that?!? I started it because I know that I have a lot of stuff that I sometimes need to get off my chest in a place that won't hurt anyone's feelings. James promised not to read it, but of course he already DID read it one time. Found out I was writing about my suspicions that he's cheating. Serves him right! Of course he also now knows how I really feel about the crap my step-sons pull, how I feel about pee on the floor and the toilet seat, and how I feel about picking up dirty clothes all over the house. Oh well... it's like eavesdropping, you never hear anything nice about yourself.

Okay... so I couldn't resist jumping on the scale again this morning and I think it dropped a hair more, but I only really count what it says on Monday now so that I stay accountable over the weekend.

I made the best chile rellanos casserole last night, and tonight is mexican seasoned chicken and mexican brown rice and broccoli. I'm out of refried beans or I'd be having those too

I did make black bean brownies today and they are out of this world. I'm still tweaking the recipe that I got to try to make them even better. Spread with a little peanut butter they are heavenly and the perfect PMS antidote. And it's all "real" food, so I don't have to feel bad for eating it for breakfast!

A friend gave me a pair of size 20's and they are loose in the waist already. They were tight a few weeks ago when she gave them to me. I have some 18's in the dresser, but I don't think I'm close to those yet. I'll probably check them sometime over the weekend. I'm losing weight a lot differently on the beach than I did on Atkins. LC tended to come mostly off my hips/thighs/arms, but SB is taking it off pretty evenly and I'm really noticing it in my stomach!

Katie, anything we put on the internet is fair game. That's one reason you don't see Maxi's journal anymore. She had it deleted. You might pm her or email her. I need to check up on her. I'm worried about her.

Are you still making the Civil War era clothes? I thought about you when I bought a sun bonnet at Fort Davis when we were on vacation. It sat around for a couple of months. I wanted to display it, but how? Then I dug out one of my metal, collapsible wig stands, but it doesn't sit on the stand without sliding around. Then I got the brilliant idea to put a wig on the stand, and then the bonnet on the wig, and voila! I have a nice display.

It's so good to see you "home". You were truly missed.

Hey Nita - I noticed that there was no more Maxi :( I miss her!

I know that what we put out there is fair game, but you don't realize that anyone is actually *reading* it unless they leave a comment

Great idea for displaying the sun bonnet. We'll be going to Camp Ford the end of March for a Living History event. I still make Civil War dresses, still do Civil War reenacting, and my son's kindergarten teacher wishes that he had never heard of the Civil War

I made whole wheat crust pizza tonight, it was good. I try not to have it more than every other week since I don't want it to get to be such a regular thing that I don't appreciate it... kinda stupid, huh?

Well back to sewing. I'm making Austin a new outfit for Camp Ford PLUS we have a new lady in our group with a little girl (one of Austin's classmates) and I need to make clothes for them PLUS my dress doesn't fit anymore so I need a new dress too!

Katie, I'd love to see a picture of you and your family in your Civil War garb. I think dressing up in clothes from another era would be loads of fun. I have a couple of postcards from Ft. Davis with pictures from the 1800s, and I just love the clothes, especially the kids clothes. Although, I don't think I'd want to wear 12 lbs of clothes like they used to do, with all the petticoats and underskirts and corsets and overskirts, and stockings, and pinafores, and then a hat on top. By the time you got all dressed, it would be time for bed! LOL!
