| Getting a couple days head start on the journal. (maybe not the change) it has been a rough year all around. I'm back over 200, and am not happy with myself. I have my DANDR and South Beach books and am reviewing this weekend - hubby is more into lowfat, I know I need to low carb. Thinking South Beach might be more acceptable for this home this time. It is sugar and breads that are my problem - I need to cut them out in order to deal with the cravings. and I need to get the exercise program in place. right now I am dealing with foot pain (surgery earlier this month) - and it may have been easier if I didn't have this extra weight. so, time to get my health and myself back to being MY priorities. So, come Tuesday, I should have my plan (book) determined and get started on it. so, back here for the wonderful support and information that LCE has always supplied , and looking forward to all the fun new features coming from Dixie! Vacation, once again, in March at Orlando. So, initial goal is to be back under 200 by that time.

| I think we're all struggling this year Mary Kay. So, it's good that we have a new year coming up to let go of all the things that happened last year. It was a rough one for me also. I'm now 16 lbs. above goal so it's time to do something about it. There are a lot of us that are reving up the engines for Tuesday or Wednesday. You can do this...for sure.

| Thank you all, and HAPPY NEW YEAR to you also. I have managed to give up my Diet Coke, but I also find myself dozing off a lot. gotta get past that. Foot is a LOT of pain. It almost seems to get worse instead of better - but I've been reading on the web that this does happen a lot during the healing process. and can go on for awhile. I see a PT this Friday, but I feel like the 'movement' is going along nicely. I do make it a point to move the toe and I walk wearing a slipper - and 'press' it forward without putting full weight on it. but it feels like a rubber band wound too tightly around the base of my toe, and they seem to have banged up the one next to it. Hubby said I had/have a tendency to move that foot involuntarily and maybe they had to use that toe to hold me still. heck, I don't know. i've been trying motrin and aleve, but the only thing that seems to help is the hydrocodone (vicadin?). but its still only 3-1/2 weeks, and he said it is a good 6 weeks for the bone to heal. so, just taking it easy today. Reading up on the SBD. Hubby is doing the shopping right now - hopefully by next weekend I can get to the store also. and hoping the weather cooperates also.

| I am feeling so much 'relieved' if not better. I think the doctor finally figured out why I am hurting so much - and we discusssed some of my other history and things make sense now. I called this morning because the foot seemed to be darker than the other. he asked if I have RSD? like I knew what that was. but it is a condition Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), also known as Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy CRPS is best described in terms of an injury to a nerve or soft tissue (e.g. broken bone) that does not follow the normal healing path CRPS development does not appear to depend on the magnitude of the injury. The sympathetic nervous system seems to assume an abnormal function after an injury. It explains why it took a year for me to be able to wear long sleeves after my motorcycle accident when I compressed above my wrist, why I still cannot stand anyone touching the area of my leg above the ankle since the motorcycle accident (which happened 5 years ago). and why no one seemed to understand why those areas were still painful - I just figured it was normal. but other people seemed to heal so much easier. Who knows for sure if I have it - I may pursue it - but in my mind it is a reason for ongoing problems. and the Physical Therapy that I am supposed to start tomorrow is what will be the biggest help in dealing with it.

| I saw the PT friday morning - and we focused on the pain first (although he says the toe 'movement' is about as expected at this point. we did a 20 minute low-level shock treatment around the area that is hurting so much - and i think it made quite a difference. I can at least wear a sock for some time now, and the blankets don't drive me nuts. today hubby and I even went out and bought me some sport shoes. size 9, wides, but something I can wear that I can get on. I can tell, all my existing shoes are not going to work and may never. I think I have gone up a size gaining back some weight, and I was wearing too small anyhow. so for now, I have some new pink fuzzy slippers and some new blue fuzzy slippers (variety, ya know?) - 2 pair of new balance extra-wides for when I need to go outside. The 'boot' they gave me is open toed - not very practical in snow anyhow. but most of the time in the house, I'm walking around either barefoot or stocking feet - it helps with improving the flexibility of the toe. I haven't had a diet coke since the new year. And have gotten away from the 'candy' and cookie treats that were my best friends during the holidays. so, not at induction or anything, but seem to be more in control for now. Dh found an old 'massager' thing the kids gave him years ago that I use to stimulate the nerve when it starts to hurt bad and that seems to get it under control for now. so, I feel much better that this may not be long term - but I do know I will be needing to get new shoes in my future. but poor foot is pretty much fed up from trying on sport shoes this morning, so just gonna take it easy for now.

| Mary Kay, I wear Crocs a lot, I buy them from their website, but now you can get knock-offs at WalMart. Crocs even has one especially for diabetics, with a bigger toe box. They are all I wear when my arthritis acts up in my knees. They just don't hurt my feet, and they are extremely light weight. If it's cold, I put socks on. They wouldn't be great for really cold times, or for a lot of snow. But I sure recommend them for anyone who has problems with their feet or legs. I'm glad you're starting to feel better. The pt will make a huge difference. Keep it up. |

| Ok. I'm getting ready to get serious. Foot problem still exists, but does seem to be diminishing. Dr has me on low dosage Lyrica- this nerve problem is the only thing really bugging me. have you ever had a dentist working on your front teeth and having to give a shot of novicaine under your nose - that is what the pain is like, but like several hours of it. so, hoping these pills work - from what I have read - it does take about a week for it to really take effect. I have one more week of PT, then I'm going to go back to Curves. May not do every machine (have to skip the ones that might not be good for the healing process. I also got some new WATP dvds. I'm so happy. my original ones I had on VCR were my favorites. the DVD set I got a year or so back were different and I still preferred the VCR ones - but they were getting worn and not playing well. Plus, who knows how long the VCR player will hold out. but, I'm happy - the DVD I just got has the first 1 and 2 mile that I enjoyed so much. I'm go to get started back with that also.

| Mary Kay, my dd1 takes Lyrica for her fibromyalgia. It made her dizzy the first few days, but she's adapted. Seems to work. Enjoy the WATP! |

| Time to get serious - and mean it. I am at 226 right now, same as before vacation. Vacation was fun, but it would be so much more if I could just be healthier and feel better in my clothes. I swore I would never be over 200 again, and I blew right past it. Last year was hard - work, Mom and the stupid foot surgery just added on pounds I never wanted to see again. Sunday 5/18 - first day back on atkins and I did okay. no off plan items. Got grocery shopping and a lot of prep work out of the way. Salad, celery, cucs, eggs and turkey cooked and ready to behave this week. got 2 doz eggs - want to hardboil half of them. I always manage to screw them up somehow - wish me luck. Got several things planned for the rest of this year. no pressure to be in perfect shape for them, but hopefully will be getting back to a healthier weight by the end of the year. Next month is a class reunion. nothing I can do about that now but hope to be in a downward trend by then. Sept/Oct are business trips (Oct is Las Vegas!!). and plans are underway to a visit to my brother's home sometime in the last few months. He's a lowcarber - so I need to get some encouragement going. He is in Australia - my first trip there ever. I have been promising him I would get there for like 15 years now. The time has definitely come. Hubby is not going - and that is more my choice. I just want some peaceful time with my brother. DH thinks a vacation is for DOING THINGS. I think a vacation is for resting. And why pay out a ton of $$$ just for us to fight over everything. I can even keep working there - internet is a wonderful tool in my business. Planning on 2 weeks - wow! So, by then, I should be well on my way and back in control of my eating and my health. I intend to be here daily to track my progress. See you then.
