Shell, Bren and Lisa, thanks for the nice comments on Baby A's picture. DS2 has a good eye for photography. The weekend sure passed quickly. Seems to always do that when there's a lot going on. It's supposed to be 70 degrees here today, nice, but it's still weird to be that warm around here in January. Eight years ago this month we had a devastating tornado rip through our town, weather like this in the days leading up to it. Busy day on tap, lots to do before work tomorrow. My house is in disarray from yesterday, a full day of football then movies. Gonna run, be back to check in later.

Susie - sweet picture! Yes this weather is just weird for january. But I'll bet when we get into deep winter for weeks on end we'll wish it were back. Have a great week!

Rob and Heather, if you could only see the rest of him how very tiny. His hand looks bigger in that photo than it really is. Like I said, our tiny, toy poodle STILL weighs more than babyA and he's already one month old. Made a mad dash to SWM and then to the lab. I think everybody was at SWM buying paper towels, bath tissue and everything else household related. Stopped at IGA for some ground chuck and a chicken. Glad I'm back home, still have plenty to keep me busy here. This old bod is stiff and sore today, don't know how much more I'll try to accomplish. We'll see...

I've decided to change a few small things in my life to make a more positive impact on the world/environment. I've been doing this for quite some time, but I want to include it. No more of those plastic grocery bags go into my trash to fill up the landfill. I save them and take 'em back to SWM or Kroger for recycling. I try to avoid them when I can, many times it isn't necessary for the clerk to use a bag for one or two items. I have the reusable bags, but I have to get better at remembering to take them in when I shop. We don't have mandatory recycling in our city, we should have. In fact, it should be part of everybody's life. I am cutting way back on bottled water. We have a nice water filtering system in our home, it's so pointless to use bottled water. I am making a commitment to somehow cut back on bottled water at work, I've got to figure that one out. Our water there is regular tap water, probably better than the bottled water. I've switched out many of the regular light bulbs in our home to the "green" bulbs. I know this past summer it helped to keep my kitchen much cooler. We take items no longer needed to Goodwill, etc. or we have garage sales. I feel a sense of urgency to become more responsible with our earth. To help make a difference, no matter how small.

| sista, you go girl!! I nearly cry everytime I see those horrid plastic grocery bags blowing around on the highway or a field, or wrapped around a tree limb, or worse yet, eaten by wildlife, which usually causes the death of the animal. I still think there is waaaay more that we, as earth dwellers, should be doing to save the planet. That is one of our goals this year also...to get the compact florescent bulbs and start replacing all the old ones as they burn out. They are pricey, but I've heard good things about them. Our city does recycle; but only plastic, aluminum, and glass. I think they should pick up paper as well. sigh. Well, sorry about the hijack, dear sista! have a good evening, and a good one at work tomorrow. (((hugs))) soulsista

Susie - Good for you! I also have been trying to be more responsible environmentally. I no longer buy any drinks that come in bottles or cans. I use the self checkout at the supermarket so I can use less bags than they would normally use. and if i have one or 2 items I won't take a bag at all. did that at target last week with a very large bathrobe and pair of pants i bought. unfortunately because i live in a condo I can't recycle. but on the rare occasions I drink canned beer I bring the empties to my sister who does recycle. Over the past 5 years i have replaced all my light bulbs with green ones. except for the ceiling fan because they don't make that size in flourescent I don't think? Have a great day!

| We just got a notice in the mail that our condo association is adding recycle bins to our trash service. I have been thinking of getting some of those cloth grocery bags...now these posts here have convinced/convicted me that it's time to do it. Especially since Costco stopped using bags. Susie..that photo is precious.

Shell, another thing I do is to cut apart those awful plastic straps they put around sodas, spaghetti sauce, etc. that you buy at Sam's or Costco. I'm always concerned a helpless animal or sea creature will get their head stuck. I cut, cut, cut them into pieces. Those plastic grocery are really just a nuisance. I'm really gonna try to remember my reusable bags. Lisa, it's amazing how much waste we throw away. I feel a strong conviction about being careless at the trash can. Rob, I wish our city had curbside recycling. There is a large recycling center, but we're responsible for containing it, bagging it...yes, bagging and hauling it in. Not easy for me. Still not an excuse if I really intend to get serious. DSIL lives in Walnut Creek, CA and since it's in the Bay Area, they have a wonderful curbside recycling service and have for years. Separate toters, the whole shebang. Vickie, let's see just how often we can use our bags. Since you're such a good seamstress, maybe you could make your own. Even out of material you could recycle. On another note, I'm in the process of trying...mind you I said trying...to give up my CF Diet Cokes and cut down on artificial sweetener. I didn't know how much I could actually crave a CFDC, I'm beginning to think I'm sorta addicted, maybe like coffee? Doing this hoping if I cut down on sweetener it will lessen the craving for that ugly five letter word sugar. I am vowing to learn to drink my tea unsweetened. I keep telling myself that if I can drink my coffee black, I can drink my tea without sweetener. Weird how your brain programs your taste buds AND your memory. Bad storms and tornado warnings in our area earlier. Who could be surprised about that with January temps in the 60s for three days. Food choices are much improved since the first of the year.

Good luck with giving up the CFDC. I gave up sodas too. I have a couple left in the fridge and I am not throwing them out...but I haven't had one in about a week and I don't plan on buying any more if I drink the two I have left. I'm not giving up sweeteners so much...I am giving up artificial. I've been drinking water with a splash of lemon juice and stevia when I want a sweet drink.

That is a precious photo. Thanks for sharing. We've also replaced our bulbs with the compact fluorescent ones, except in the lamps that have shades that fit right onto the bulb, but we seldom use those lamps anyway. We keep our furnace set at 70 or below in the winter and wear socks & sweaters, and our ac on 78 or above in the summer. Have for years, primarily to save money, but now we know it helps the environment. Perhaps we ought to start a thread somewhere, perhaps in the Everything Else forum, on what we are doing to make a difference. Sorry to hijack, Susie! It's an interesting topic, though.

Hey girls, thanks for stopping by! Vickie, I love that you're gonna make your own bags! I had a feeling you could do that, with your great sewing talent. Please post a picture for us when you get one finished. Nita, I have thought about starting a thread so everybody who would like could share their green ideas. I will work on that. You're right, the thermostat adjustments make a two-fold impact. SistaShell, thanks for stopping by. I'm really, really tired. I probably should have been in bed long ago, but I have to be really tired or sick to just go lie down in bed. You're a pal. I suppose I did it to myself, but I made a very average size batch of homemade chicken salad. It was good, if I must say so. Cooked the whole chicken, blah, blah. You know the routine. The boys went bonkers for it. Sure makes a difference with three "man sized" appetites to feed. I believe if I had made a cement mixer full, it still wouldn't have been too much. Sooo, what is mom doing again...tonight??? You guessed it! Making more chix salad. The things we do for our kiddos. Work tomorrow...ugh. It's nice to work part-time, but makes it extra difficult to go in after being off. Until next time....
