I knew it was just water gain yesterday. Today..165.5 Seems like that is just where my body wants me to be...not where I want to be.

Last night I was downstairs exercising. I heard the phone ring but knew dh would get it. Next thing I knew dh was standing in the room. Scared the beejesus out of me. He caught me on the treadmill...running! You should have seen his eyes pop out. He was standing there with the phone in his hand and this stupid look on his face. All he could say was...you really move on that thing! Duh!!! Did he think I just turned it on and sat and watched it? I was running alright at 4.8 mph. If I'm going to get rid of this weight I have to suffer along with it. I felt pretty good about myself for running too....not too bad for a 58 year old grandma!

Supposed to be really windy today 70km per hour. That's good though cause the wind will blow some of the dust away, I hope. When I got home last night I looked into the garden next to the front door and there are all kinds of things popping up. Lots of grape hyacinths. A sure sign of Spring. Won't be long now until I'm out raking the lawn. I just don't want to do it too soon and uncover all the little things popping up in the garden that are being kept warm right now by the fall leaves. Good way to get rid of calories though.

Looks like my ddil will be getting the surgery she needs to release some of her burn scars. Finally. She was put on so many pain killers and then the doctors said they couldn't operate until she was off of all of them. Stupid...they are the ones that put her on them. Anyway, seeing as the surgery is set for the 19th it looks like we won't be able to see the grandkids for our annual easter egg hunt. They are coming this Friday for dinner so I guess I'll have to do something then. I wasn't ready for it.

You're right Rob. We've been together just over 25 years now....can just about predict what he's going to say before he says it.

Went downstairs last night to exercise and noticed the furnace was making a funny noise. Like the motor was running but the furnace didn't come on. I listened pretty carefully while I was doing aerobics and it didn't change so after I finished I called dh and told him about it....(it's a "blue" job!), then got on the treadmill. I'm amazed that he found out what was wrong. I love the man dearly, but a handy man he ain't. Anyway, a belt had broken. Now where can you get a new belt after 9 p.m. when you live in a dinky little town? Nowhere! He managed to tape it back together and turned the heat down so it wouldn't be over used. I'm hoping he can get a new one today! At least it didn't happen when it was super cold!!

Looks like we have another fight on our hands with the Lottery centre. Dh won $5000 on a keno ticket and we want to cash it in. He is a lottery retailer at our store, and not allowed to play the games at our store. He didn't. It was won at the Legion. Now, we have to drive to town to the lottery centre and they have already told us that we won't get the cheque right away. What a PITA! If they keep treating people this way, no one is going to play the stupid games.

Tuesday nights I love to watch Biggest Loser. It's not over here until 7 p.m. and usually at that time I'm finished exercising. But, it gives me such a lift to watch it that I go downstairs after the show and really give it a go at exercising. It's not showing at all on the scales but I've got a feeling that I'm losing inches. I'll keep at it anyway, cause I usually come away from it with lots of energy. And, it helps with my headaches too. It must relax my neck and shoulder muscles and makes the headaches less severe. (sometimes, they even go away!!)

Off to work.

I repeat dh is not a handyman!! He left work early yesterday to buy the belt that is needed for the furnace. When I got home he was so far inside the furnce you can hardly see him. lol The belt was too tight...so, the motor couldn't turn. I kept telling him to call the repairman. Nope...wouldn't listen. He ended up putting the old tape repaired belt on and turning the heat way down. The belt broke at about 4 this morning so the furnace was turned off so the motor wouldn't burn out. This morning he went and bought another belt...still won't work. It was just a tad chilly in the house for sure when we woke up. This new belt still won't work. I'm sure there must be a reset button or something. Anyway, he's finally called the repairman to come in...maybe tonight we will have heat?

Took my youngest dog to the vet yesterday. Looks like her urine is too strong and it's burning her. The vet was concerned about possible kidney stones and wanted to xray her. Then though maybe it was a bladder infection. I said no...she wasn't crying when she went pee and wasn't running to the door to go out. She wouldn't listen. When I went to the vet I thought they might want a urine sample so I carried Sora to the car so she wouldn't drop and pee. They took her to the xray room and she peed all over the table. I warned them! Now they didn't have a sample. Cost me just about $300 for the xray and blood tests (results aren't in), an antibiotic cream and pills. We went back to work and an hour later I took her outside and managed to get a urine sample which I ran to the vet. They did the tests and no bladder infection...cost me another $35. I'm not impressed. All that money and still no answer. I was told to soak her butt in the sink in epsom salts and then rub the cream on. Right! She screams when you get near her with the cream. Poor little girl...this is not fun for her.

No exercising last night. Stupid!! I was just so tired, and had another headache. No excuse I know.

Donna, when we first moved to Texas, we bought a used washer and dryer, the washer died 2 years later, but the dryer just kept running, for years. Then the belt broke, and we couldn't find a replacement. The local appliance store suggested we superglue it together, so we did, and the doggone thing lasted another 18 months! We got a replacement then, and the dryer ran another year or 2 before it finally started squealing so loud you couldn't stay in the house! But I was amazed at how long that stupid belt lasted!

Hope your headaches get better.

Nita: I also have a used dryer that we only paid $100. It's been going strong for about 8 years now. Some of the wires have broken but dh has managed to splice them together again. (see, he can do some things! lol)

Rob: It's really hard for me sometimes to not lose my cool with him. I come from a family where my dad and brother could fix or build anything! Even my exhusband liked to build things (when he was sober, which wasn't often). I know my dh tries but he gets frustrated too.

Dh finally called in the repairman yesterday. Turns out the motor had seized. Good thing we know the guy...he had a used motor and only charged us $100. But....when they started up the furnace again they cranked the heat up to 30C to get it going quickly. Once they checked it out they just left with the heat still way up there. I came home 5 hours later and could hardly breathe it was sooooo hot in the house. The furnace didn't turn on again until the wee hours this morning. With the price of natural gas, I can't believe this two guys did that! Oh well, best not to complain...at least I have heat now.

Looks like we'll be spending the weekend in town...again. We'll be heading to the lottery centre on Saturday before noon to try and claim our latest winnings. They've already said we won't get the cheque tomorrow seeing as we have a store and dh is a retailer. Seems stupid to me...we didn't even buy it at our store. Then on Sunday we have our first baseball meeting...see, spring is definitely coming once we start talking baseball. Can't wait to see everyone again!

Have a good weekend everyone. HOpe the scales are kinder to you than they are to me right now.

Donna - no reason to lose your cool. If everyone was handy there's be no need for repairmen. People like your Dh and me keep whole industries in business. LOL I hate when i forget to turn the heat down. lately I've been able to turn it off completely. 67 isn't that cold if you dress for it. Have agodo weekend!~

have a good weekend.

You are turning off the heat? Just not fair. I'm still scraping my windshield every morning when I leave for work. It'll be awhile yet before we turn the heat off.

I read an article in the paper yesterday where a whole town of native people decided to go back in time and eat as their ancestors did. Lots of fat, veggies and meats. Basically a low carb diet. It was easier for them because it's a small town and everyone in the town was on the diet. The owner of the only cafe turned it low carb too...burgers without the bun etc. In the end, the town lost over 1,200 lbs. The rampant diabetes was just about all gone. So...there is more proof that this woe works. Now if I can just figure out what I'm doing differently now than when I first started and I can get the scale moving downward all would be fine. I have a pretty good idea that it's the nightime snacks that are doing me in. They might be lc but there are still calories involved. Today the scale was just plain mean...167.5. If it ever gets to 170 I'm going to jump off the roof!!

Donna, is that newspaper online where we could go in and read the article? I'd love to see it!

We not only turned off the heat, I opened a window in the dining room Saturday and haven't shut it yet. Will have to today, it's going to cool down to 52 by afternoon, but tomorrow will be warm again, ready to open up the house when I'm home. We open both doors when we get home, to let in some fresh air. Just one of the perks of living here.

Hope you have a great Tuesday.

No Nita, it wasn't online...it was in The Province newspaper on Sunday March 16th. I've tried to find it in the archives but no luck. Maybe you can find it...if so the article is called "North high on low-carb diet".

Donna - I read that very good article. I think it was in the New York Times? or maybe someone linked to it in their blog? Any way for Nita and anyone else interested: The town that lost 1,200 pounds

Heat is on and off depending on the day. yesterday's high was mid 50s but right now (wednesday 4:30 a.m.) it's already 59 degrees. Late night eating is my downfall as well. I wish I could fall asleep at 8 p.m. and stay asleep until 6:00 a.m.
Have a good OTH day!

Rob...my saviour. That's the exact article that I read in The Province. You'd think I could do better finding archived articles seeing as that's the paper I work for! lol Thank you so much.

Our weather is just about the same. I'm scraping the windows in the morning but by afternoon I'm leaving work not wearing a coat. Kind of nice for sure.

I changed my exercise a little last night. Did the aerobics and then got on the treadmill carrying weights. After that I walked the dogs even though it was dark. In our little town you don't have to worry about being out after dark for sure. Everyone knows everyone else! I think the dogs were spooked though. lol

Something must have tweaked cause I'm down 2.5 this morning. (or it could have been the fact that I feel kind of crappy this morning and have been running to the bathroom TMI? Sorry)

I'm waiting anxiously for ds to phone and let me know that ddil is okay. She's being operated on this morning to have a burn scar released. She has problems coming out of the anaesthesia so I'm worried. Hope he calls soon.

Off to work....only one more work day until a long weekend.

Surgery was a success for ddil....as long as she lays very still and doesn't break the graft away from where it's been put. Ds is staying in the room with her so she will be pampered until she's discharged. She could be in hospital for 2 weeks.

Weight went back up 1 lb. this morning. Blah!

I made a delicious lc pizza for dinner last night with a side salad. Leftovers for tonight. I've been lax about trying a lot of the recipes that I've collected. Instead it's basically been meat, salad, and veggies. I have a huge binder full of recipes so I'm going to start using some of them. It's been too long since I've made things like Whitecastle Hamburger Pie.

Last night while on the treadmill I dropped both my weights and just missed the motor of the treadmill. Whew! So, without thinking I just bent down to pick them up...stupid, my foot went flying behind me and got stuck between the treamill and the wall. Won't do that again. Thank goodness for the easy way to stop it by pulling the string holding the start.

Long weekend coming up. I have to spend Friday baking for dmil and then Saturday making the dinner that I'm taking to her house. No rest for the wicked!
