Default Holiday Carb Offense

Hello everyone!

The strangest thing happened to me while I was away Thursday - Sunday.
I went to visit my family in Philadelphia, especially my 8 year old brother and his mother. Well to prepare for my visit, they brought potato chips, ice cream, brownies, etc. everything a carb addict loves. I didn't ask them to do this, they just kinda always do this when I come over.

I told them I started low carb eating because I need to get healthy and drop some weight. To my surprise they were completely offended!! They had started eating "healthier" and didn't understand why I am taking such radical measures. My new eating plan was met by so much controversy and hostility, that I went ahead and partook in the life shortening bounty in order to keep the peace.

By the end of my visit, I felt like crap (nauseous, bloated and tired) and by hosts whose "healthy" diet included plenty of sticky buns, biscuits, potato chips, and ice cream, were fat and happy.

I have a learned a valuable lesson. Let people be offended!! This is my body and I know what's best for it. I never again let someone decide for me what I need, no matter how "healthy" their diet is.

So bring on Thanksgiving and Christmas.... we'll see who has the last laugh!!

You know, I've noticed myself that sometimes, families don't take it well when you start to pay more attention to eating healthy. And if your family is overweight, it seems to be worse. Like you're breaking the "fat pact" or something. They normally come around with time, and may even end up asking you for advice after they see how well you're doing and how great you feel.

Stick to your guns, honey. Next time you'll be prepared. Take you own goodies, make sure you are never hungry or thirsty so you won't be tempted, and never let anyone guilt you into eating what you know isn't good for your body. You can do it!
