Butterfly MK - 2009 is gonna be MINE!!

Once more into the plan. well, beginning of the year.

2007/2008 were really out of control, and I hate being out of control. Weight is up, pain is consistent - which losing would help, so why can't I focus on it.

right now, hip/knee pains are not too bad, but that is thanks to the cortisone shot I got before my big trip. I'm home to stay for a couple months - and now is when I ought to be able to focus on myself.

got in a few boxes of vanilla shakes to help me along (only place to find them anymore is Amazon). Going to try my very best to ignore all the remaining cookies hubby insisted on making for the holidays. still dozens of them left. At the least (since he won't let me just 'get rid of') they are going in the pantry instead of out in view.

Going to get to the grocery tonight and get the items I SHOULD have available instead of the junk that is here. Veggies, meats, etc. It is time to get myself back into a lifestyle that always makes me feel better in health, and my view of myself. Time to break out my walking dvds, blow up my exercise ball - and move my butt.

Once again, looking forward to support on this wonderful site. I have been in hermit mode for too much of this year and need to get out of it.

At least I am getting plenty of sun right now. My new office is almost TOO bright sometimes. we got the honeycomb blinds - but I think I will have to give in and actually get some curtains for over them. Even totally shut the room doesn't need a light on during the day!

Loving my new home. Just wish I could get the kids to finish up moving out of the old side so that I can get it fixed up and on the market for rental. Can't get hubby to help out at all with this type of stuff - it's so frustrating.

It's good to see you in a new journal, Mary Kay.

I could easily be in hermit mode. I inherit that trait from my dad, who would have been happy to live in a little shack out in the woods with no one around but the trees and animals. When I'm away from this site for a few days, I find it hard to get back to it, too. But I need the support, so here I am.

It's good to see you journaling again.

Just checking in today. Starting on plan tomorrow, but taking it easy today. Just been a major cookie/treat frenzy for the last couple of weeks. Hubby likes to make christmas cookies - but doesn't eat them much - I make up for it.

but, now I'm done - still several containers on top of fridge, but don't want them anyway.

I have this miserable cough going on, and eating something sweet seems to trigger it more. (not that it stopped me earlier)

I'll be in daily - even if I don't have anything to report. That's my first 'easy' commitment to myself.

Scale must be lying this morning - last time I looked it was closer to 228, but it is bouncing around 222/223 - go figure.

was making a nice cheese omelet for breakfast and burnt the heck out of it (sticking to bottom of pan and all) and at that point, really didn't want another egg thing.

Luckily, I found that I could get Atkins shakes at Amazon and had ordered in about 3 boxes. They aren't in cans anymore, but more like juice packs (how weird). But, emptied one into my miniblender with ice and I'm okay for now. Unfortunately, we do grocery shopping on Satudays, and I don't have healthy things in the house right now (it was all about holidays last time)

But, I will deal with my water and foods as healthy as I can get today and see how it goes.

I drive DS to the airport today for a week at his girlfriends. It was nice having him around for the holidays and hate to see him head back up to school and his own life. but gotta do it.

And the new year begins in earnest. Gotta get my head back into focus on work. the last couple of months with traveling and holidays has taken its toll.

Well, I did 'OK' yesterday, considering I didn't have the groceries and a plan in place.
so, it was kinda find what I could - and avoid all the stupid leftover cookies (no, I'm not allowed to get rid of them - hubby made them and he can eat them for the next year) - although I did manage to get DD and her GF to take one whole container

so - yesterday:
atkins shake/ice

leftover thin pizza
2 slices ham

red grapefruit cup

simple salad/ blue cheese dressing
french onion soup

2 oz sharp cheddar cheese

not all the best, but definitely better than what I have been doing for months.

got shopping this morning, and laid in lots of LC goodies.
HB eggs, eggs (picked up a microwave omelet maker cause I'm skittish with my pan right now.
cucumbers, celery, peppers, lots of bagged salads (romaine especially)
turkey, ham, swiss for salads

My brother sent me a LC 'basket' for xmas, and poked around a little in it last night. Lots of LC treats - but putting it away for a couple weeks. Then I'll look through it again and see what I want to dole out.

did take a little 'blitz' splenda powermints in cappachino. yum I have to say. A lot of the stuff in the basket is hard to find in stores so will be helpful once I get through the first couple/few weeks.

oh well, off to cut up my veggies and finish the prep work.

we did go out for breakfast, but I stuck with the eggs & bacon. Hubby took my toast - so all is good. Don't want to give up certain traditions, and our weekly breakfast is one of them.

Plans are for eggs/cheese or shakes for breakfast. Salad for lunch, with or without some kind of meat. Dinner will be a meat with some kind of veggie side - and maybe another side salad.
In between snackies will be HB eggs or cheddar cheese block cut ups.

And, had a store coupon for a free 24pk of spring water bottles - so time to start on that. Not going anywhere, so can deal with bathroom time - although I'll take it easy for today - we are planning on going to a movie tonight. I usually just do a bottle of water there anyhow, so not a big temptation.
Probably seeing the The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Sounds like a good movie.

See you tomorrow.

in case anyone is curious, this is what I got from my brother:

Saturday went ok.
Breakfast - scambled eggs and bacon (just one big slice - could have had more but I was just full.
Lunch - salad - Western dressing, but I won't have that anymore. Need to get some salad dressings.

Dinner - got sidetracked. Had some cucumber with pepper ranch then we went to the movie. only water there. but, surprisingly, didn't want any more that evening. by the time we got home, had a hot cup of tea and fell asleep anyhow.

Today will be good. made a nice omelet in my cheap microwave omelet maker and a little bacon. with a nice cup of hazelnut fresh ground coffee - I'm got for quite a while.

I'm having trouble getting the 'kids' to clear their stuff out of the side of the double we want to gut and rent - had someone ask about a sofa and chest - 2 of the things we needed to get rid of. They came by to get with some friends to help move it and actually took most of the stuff I was going to have to put out for others to pick up. Ok with me, less I have to do. I'm glad someone can use all that stuff. and they made a haul - sofa, chest, couple chairs, twin bed, lots of little things that would have just been considered junk.
Now just one room to go, and its the one with the stuff the kids want - SO TAKE IT ALREADY!
I'm going to schedule the construction guys for the 19th if possible. That will be the deadline. (they still have to empty the garage, but that wont hold up the painting, carpetting and flooring.

and it's not like they just aren't NEXT DOOR for pete's sake. I know, I enable. But its also a matter of DD got stuck with a lot of other stuff that wasn't hers (MIL, son, etc) - so just having to weed it down.

oh well. 19th is a good deadline for it.

Your brother is such a sweetie for sending you the lc care package. A very thoughtful gift.

I like some of the Walden Farms salad dressings, but some of them are just way too sweet. We really like the Asian dressing, but the ranch is very, very sweet.

Your talking about bacon reminds me that I need to take some out of the freezer! Thanks for the reminder.

TOM sneaks up on you. It wouldn't be so bad if you didn't have all the angst that goes along with it. Just know that eventually it will all go away, and you quit living your life by your monthly cycle. Menopause sure is great. Getting older isn't!

MK--I see that you started off 2009 with good resolutions, like most of us!

Hope your October resolutions will stick--as I hope mine will, too. In the many times I've had to work at renewing my commitment to weight management, it seems to take some kind of epiphany--a kind of "click"--to finally get going. Wish I knew how to package that "click" moment and sell it.

Best wishes.

Thanks for finding this again for me Barb. It makes it easier to start posting again.

I am firmly entrenched in WW (weight watchers) now. I started last March, and got serious about it in May. At this point I am down 24 lbs and on the threshold of getting back into Onderland. I go with a girlfriend - been a long time since I really had friends. - and we go religiously every Tuesday evening. I do feel like I have made a lot of improvement in my 'choices'. I do follow the point system, but what makes up those points is my choice - and having been LC for many years I have found that my health is best served avoiding the high carb even in a low calorie plan. So my plan is pretty much a mix. Breads and sweets are an occasional treat, but I can have them in moderation now.
I have been much more active lately than I have in years. Another friend across the street and I go to the local rec center. I have been doing a 'body conditioning' class with her but it is too hard on my joints so I am going to go back to walking the inside track while she does the class.

I just had knee surgery so I will be easing back into the walking as soon as possible. I was also taking an aqua jogging session but will have to give that up for several weeks. Next session, I plan to resign up for that along with the water aerobics they have. I am learning my limitations and although I can't do what others can, there are plenty of healty alternatives available. What is sad is I have lived in this area for 25 years and had not made 'friends' or used the local rec center. The move to the condo has done wonders for getting me out of my shell. Living right next door to family all those years, and working from home the last 8 have made it too easy to keep my world close and exclude outside people.

But I'm back on track - and plan to continue with WW through maintenance. its one evening a week, and I certaintly can commit to that. Plus, again, it is a 'social' outlet that I need.

So, for now, back to icing the knee, 'toes over nose' , and eating the good foods. I actaully have a couple neighbors who are dropping off food. Just something nice I haven't had before. I love this condo living and am so glad we did this before retirement. And it has worked out well at the old 'homestead' - which was basically a double. One side is now rented to my daughter and her fiance. Wedding is next June. The other side is rented to a co-worker of DH. Yeah. we had to pay out quite a bit up front to improve the places, but It will be more sellable when the time comes - meanwhile the rents make the payment and we can hope the market will be high when we are ready.

So, all in all, we are doing well - and I hope to be able to enjoy being on the back of DH motorcycle again - that is what has brought me to the knee surgery. I haven't been able to tolerate more than 15 minutes of the vibration before pain set in - so I've been left home a lot. Although now he is working from home also , so I don't mind so much when he takes off on a longer ride

Hang in there all - it is a long journey to get to a healthy weight, but I'm in for the ride. Hugs.
