Okay, I'm in!

Even squeezing in a short walk each day is better than not. I actually, love walking - it's just taking that first step.

Ended up at 127 miles fo August but have decided that may be a bit too much. I'm setting my September goal at 100 miles. Which is really enough.

Yesterday walked 4 miles at the lake.

I want to try for 125 miles this month.

So far this week, I've done 14 on the treadmill.

Shelley - Still no answer on your appeal? How long does it take?

Tina - 125 miles is hard to do. You need to walk just about every day. I only skipped 2 days in august. And made up for them by adding a couple miles to subsequent walks. But It's possible, Just be vigilant!

Have walked 13.5 miles in 3 days so far. But I decided to try to up my average speed rather than try for umpteen miles this month. Yesterday I did 4 miles at and average speed of 4.25 mph. Which took an extreme effort from these 29 inch inseam legs. LOL

Rob,
They can take their own sweet time...they sent me a letter saying they got my letter...LOL, how's that for stalling? Anyhoo, that letter said they would have a decision in 60 days. Like I said, it's only my LIFE they are dinking around with...aarrgghh! I don't expect they will certify the procedure anyway; I would be very surprised if they did :o

Thanks Rob: I think I need to bring the number down to under 100, so I'll go for 90.

As of today, I've got in 19 miles.

Well, I haven't gotten in the walking I'd hoped to - there's a nasty heatwave going on for one thing, and I can't bring myself to go out in the heat. But I got some alternative exercise from dancing tonight. I will be on my feet most of the day tomorrow at the Highland Games, so that will be about 6 hours of strolling. I figure 6 hours of strolling must be the equivalent of 1 to 2 hours of "real" walking.

wOOt....DH and I walked this am My heel feels so-so, but if it doesn't hurt anymore than this, then I think I will give walking another try. We did 2.49 in 41 min, so not to shabby, I think. Plus, for this time of year in OOOOklahoma, the morning was a beautiful 66 degrees with a ever so slight breeze sweeeet!

happy trails...

It was terribly hot yesterday - it was still 94 degrees in the shade at about 5:30 pm. DH and I went for a short walk then, but gave up after half a mile as we looked at each other and decided to do something else instead.

The power was off so we went for a cup of coffee then grocery shopping. Safeway had lost power, but I guess they must have an emergency generator. They were running in an extreme conservation mode. The doors were open, the AC was off, the refrigeration was off, only about 1 out of 8 lights were on - still, the cash registers were running. We laughed about their priorities - no refrigeration, but keep the cash flowing.

The fresh meats on display already were at room temp, so we passed up the meat department entirely, as we weren't going to be cooking that evening. They had the of the freezer sections cordoned off, but people were going in and opening the doors anyway. What jerks.

After that, we went to the next town over to get some dinner at the British-style pub - it was probably the only restuarant in the whole valley that doesn't have AC. But, the ceiling fans kept it bareable.

By the time we finished, it had probably cooled off to the low 80s or high 70s so we went for another walk - a short walk, it's true. But, I felt it was important, in a symbolic way.

By the time we got home at 8:30, the power was still off. So, we sat outside and tried to get the little emergency radio/flashlight/siren with a built-in manual generator to work. Someone gave it to us for Xmas 2000, when there was all that talk about massive power outages. What a joke that radio turned out to be! Cranking the generator made so much noise, it drowned out the radio. The "siren" was about as loud as a hungry dog's whine, too!

It's supposed to be hot again today - high 90s to 100. It's nice now (8:20 am) - just 71 degrees. So I think I'll break some new ground here by going for a walk early, while it's still nice and cool.

I've had a cold the past few days and it's been raining since Sunday. Have gone walking in the rain and that was a bad idea. It did nothing for my cold. So yesterday i mall walked which I absolutely hate to do. I'm only at 23 miles in 7 days for this month and I am not feeling up to walking today. I will have to hustle to get to a 100 miles this month.

Well, Rob, it sounds like you are doing very well to me - to get in 23 mines despite 4 days of rain and a cold. If you have a cold, you probably need to let your body devote more of it's energy to recuperating. Otherwise, your cold might take longer to get over.

It's been icky hot here in San Jose - mid to high 90s for over a week. Usually, our hot spells are limited to 3 days thanks to the interplay of the cooler air over the ocean and the hot air in the central valley. We call it the Bay Area air conditioner. When the central valley air stays very hot for a couple of days, it rises. As the central valley air rises, cool air from the ocean is sucked inland.

But, alas, the AC is broken... something about a persistent high pressure area over the southwest.

I skipped walking in the heat yesterday; but after reading your post, I made myself go out today. I'm glad I did it.

Felt better yesterday so decided to walk the full 7 miles around the lake. When I got back to my car I discovered I had lost my car keys. So had to walk an additrional 2.5 miles to get to a phone and back to the car. Then I had promised to give my friend's dog a "good" walk down by teh creek. so that added a half mile to it. So 10 miles in one day is pretty good. If I had tried this 6 months ago I'd need hospitalization. Hey, maybe I'm finally becoming fit? I lived in New york city and had no car. I walked everywhere and there was never a limit on distance. I just never grew tired. sometimes even walked to and from work (5 mile away). It will be ncie to get back in that kind of walking shape.

Another 14 miles in this week - up to 28 so far this month. I may not make 90, but I'm on my way :jump:

It's finally cooled off - we just got out of one of the most prolonged heat waves I can remember. I went for a nice, long walk yesterday in the late afternoon.

We are getting ready to paint our house, so I look intently at the paint on every home I walk by - considering the colors. LOL, people probably wonder why I'm staring at their houses.

I've decided that house colors look entirely different in the morning than in the afternoon. Some houses that I like in the afternoon light are a bit insipid in the morning. Others that look garish in the afternoon, look quite perky in the morning. I keep looking at the test colors I painted (tan and antique white) on the house. I think they are better afternoon colors. My house is a bit homely, so I definitely don't want the color to "pop" - it would only bring attention to the indistinguished lines and lack of architectural detail.
