We did 3 mi this am; sorry to say it took 50 minutes. When I'm back up to speed with my fitness walking, I hope to shave ALOT off that time....like 12-15 minutes
My other thought, is, if my heel continues to hang in there, then I may start doing jogging sprints again.
Anyhoo, I'm happy to be on the trail again at all!

happy trails...

Ohhhhh....I'm jealous...a walk on the beach in Australia Way cool!!!

I only did 2 mi this morning, outdoors. I had intentions of doing 3 fitness miles, but got a tad overheated. I thought it was only about 80-81 degrees when I left the house, but it was 90! No wonder I was feeling some nausea near the end of the second mile!
Lesson learned: Get thy bootie out of bed EARLY in the summer on the weekends and out the door by 0630!

happy trails...

Welcome Allyj Walking is a great way for the weight to start to drop off!

Just build up slowly - as the nutrition and body improves so does speed and you can cover the distances more easily. I walk between 5-6 kilometres a day (um - not sure how far that is in miles - I think about 2 miles per kilometre or maybe like kilos 2.2) but I also have a pedometer and I wore that for a long time and still do when I'm walking a new route. When I first started to loose weight (3 years ago) I was appalled to find that when I measured my daily paces I was under 400 - now I make sure I log at least 10,000 paces daily and quite often I do a lot more than that - up to 15,000 and 20,000. Although I do work out as well - I'm sure its the walking that is most beneficial - and its FREE!!!

That's pretty hot to be walking Shelly - even in Aussie terms! Our summer here (in North Eastern Aus) is about 80-90 most of the time - but we also get 80 and above percent humidity - and that's not my favourite time of year! Its like - walk ten paces - jump in the surf - walk ten paces - jump in the surf!

Allyj,
Welcome to the walking thread! Good for you on the getting moving thing Build your time up gradually, and stay well hydrated in extreme heat.

I have a pretty big comfort range really. My personal rules are: I don't walk if it's over 95 degrees. On those days I do a WATP video and sweat just the same...LOL.
In the winter, I have walked with the wind chill index as low as 13 degrees. But, I dress in layers and make sure I have no skin exposed(I have a polartek full face mask I wear in the winter). As long as there is no ice or snow so I can get good traction...I'm hoofing it

happy trails...

Thanks I have really been trying to get active. I went another 2 miles yesterday & did my upper body workout with 5 lbs. weights. My husband told me that he thought the walking daily was great but the upper body shouldn't be daily. Is this true? He says he thinks I should skip a day because it 's too much of a strain. I'm soooo glad to be here & appreciate all your help! Shelleyg I understand how you feel about the heat. It was in the upper 90's yesterday & I can only dream of how great it would be to walk where beachfox is! You all give me the motivation I need. Take care & thanks.

Personally - I do upper body weights one day and lower body/legs the next - its my understanding that its best to give the muscles time to recover for one day (but I might have been advised so because of my age!) Although I do my stretch-a-robics and ab crunches everyday and I certainly walk everyday. I also park my car as far away from where I want to be as possible - that gives me more exercise!
