Default November Curves Bunch

Okay, with the holidays looming and lots of food temptations rearing their ugly heads, let's re-commit to getting ourselves to Curves on a regular basis. This is the place to discuss your experience with Curves and also where women can get info about it who are thinking of joining Curves.

I have been willy-nilly about getting to Curves since last May. I had taken on a full-time job then and it was difficult to get in there before work since sometimes the one girl that opened up didn't get there when she was supposed to. After work was difficult since I was dog tired and just wanted to get home, make dinner, clean up afterward and go to bed. The full-time gig didn't work out and I have since been laid off. (seasonal swimming pool supply company) I am allowing myself the time off and then will pursue a full-time job in January after the holidays. In the meantime, I have the luxury of being able to go to Curves when I want and posting messages here.

So, last week I didn't make it in at all, but this week I went yesterday and intend to go today and tomorrow or friday AM. My Curves is supposed to be moving to a new place (within the same town), so they will be closed friday night and saturday. I like to try to get there 3X/week minimum. During the weeks that I have slacked off and not gone, I feel it in my muscles and bones. Not only does it help you lose weight or maintain, it just makes you feel good, period. I can't imagine myself NOT exercising, ever again. It is a normal part of my routine now.

In January, I am hoping to get a job at our local hospital, which is only about a 3 minute car ride away. In the spring, I intend to ride my bike there, along a bike path that leads almost directly to the hospital. I will have to see how long a ride it is and if it's realistic. (I don't want to be riding my bike home at midnight, all alone, in the dark.) But if I can do that on top of Curves, it will be a physical triumph.

O hey! G'day Barb - great to see ya! In fact, in addition to the dairy context - it was your posts on the other board where I first saw reference to Curves - and lo! the next week I saw a wagon go past in town here with the name on it - so I chased after and found the studio! Then Junieshops mentioned 'dancing' sooooo - that left no choice! So thanks for the dairy AND Curves - because I reckon both got me to my final destination! No - riding in the dark - not good - but the bicycle and Curves together would be excellent! I usually do about a 10 mile beach hike on the weekends - during the week on the non curving days I do stretchs and step and daily ab crunches and I always park as far away from where I'm going as possible - and walk! So - a new job eh! Always interesting getting into something new. Great to see you again - look forward to your Curves posts!

Hey Beach!!!

I was going to go today, but got all involved in painting some experimental celestial ideas on a scrap piece of wallboard. I painted it the same color as my bathroom, which will have a celestial theme. I googled for astronomical photos and hit the jackpot with a site that has a zillion pictures. There are so many I don't know which ones to choose now. I suppose I will have to paint a bunch up and see which ones turn out really cool. Then I will do the real deal on the actual walls. I have suns and moons stuff and a wallpaper boarder also. It will be cute.

So...............(I digress) I am going to go in tomorrow morning for sure since they will be closed tomorrow afternoon and saturday for their move. (it's thursday here right now.) I HAVE to get back into my 3X/week routine. My bike riding will have to wait until next spring, although it has been a VERY warm fall here in these parts and I could have gone riding today actually. But as I said before, I got all involved with home decorating instead.

Okay, I went in this morning and did a little more than a half hour. Then this afternoon, since it's such a NICE day out (about 70 F) I decided to dig the bike out of the garage and pump the tires and ride to our nearby Aldi and where the new Curves is going to go to see how long it would take. It's a 12 minute trip one way. The route I take has relatively little traffic depending on the time of day. It's very doable. I just need to get a good back pack to carry groceries home in. I also need to go to a bike shop and see if I can rig up some sort of basket deal. I don't intend to go to Aldi when I need to do a big shopping trip, on my bike, but even if I drive there, I can go workout first and then go shopping. And even if it's 50 degrees out, I'll still try to do some riding there. I actually got VERY warm today, so 50 degrees is a good temp to ride a bike in as long as it's not raining.

G'day Barb - wow - you've got some good energy going there lady! Decorating sounds like great fun! And the bike riding - you're going to be excercised before you even get to Curves at this rate! Yep - I try to get my x 3 in weekly and usually manage it. I'm on the purple rates now most days - which is 85% fat burning - at least that's as far as I understand it -I'm not great on the technical aspects of weight management! Its Sunday here now - our Curves is open on Saturday. However, I do Mon/Wed/Fri - they suit me best. Right - off to do some step and stretch-a-robics and ab crunches - that will keep me off the streets for a couple of hours!

I keep scoping out the new place. They have frosted the windows now. They should be all moved in on Monday, but we'll see. Some city regulation (usually the fire department) delays the opening of new businesses here. It's been frustrating for them I'm sure. I haven't met the new owner yet.

It's been raining here, so bike riding will be out of the question until things dry up. It's amazing how your tire splatters water up onto your back when the roads are wet. ICK!!! No thanks!!!! LOL

I too like to do M-W-F, I usually end up doing 2 days during the week and then Sat. am. Hopefully they will be open this monday. I'll see what the weather brings on Mon and try to ride my bike there.

I'm out to Curves now. I usually stop off at the outdoors cafe and have a small carrot/ginger juice and a tiny wholemeal savoury muffin - as I usually have breakfast around 6-7AM - it will be 10 by the time I get to Curves - so need something to see me through! Got other good exercise on the weekend - a long beachwalk on Saturday and full step/stretch/crunch routine yesterday. I'll miss Curves this Friday until Monday 20 :( but I'll be getting in lots of walking and I can do some of my other exercises anyway - definitely do my ab crunches everyday for sure!

Beach, sounds like you've got a great exercise routine going. I'm hoping to ride my bike tomorrow, since I don't think it's going to rain and it didn't rain today. I have to ride up there and see if they are all moved in too.

Hey Barb - yeah - exercise is essential for me - its what keeps the weight off! But also, at 63 - it also keeps my joints moving and I'm sure contributes to clarity of mind and well-being generally. I must confess that I love my stretches more than anything else - and could never do without those! Curves was great yesterday - but it always is. We've got a Christmas tree in there at this time - and we're all taking gifts for charity to put under it - so the machine in front of it is turned around facing it - so we can all see the happy faces on the toys! Such fun! We have a custom here - the biker 'gangs' collect up thousands of stuffed toys - and ride them up to the children's hospitals at Christmas. They look so great - huge stuffed teddys and things on the front of these big bikes ridden by really tough looking guys all grinning! I love watching it!

SAME here Beach, we have a bunch of Harley-Davidson freaks that collect "Toys for Tots", which is a WONDERFUL cause. About a month ago I was returning home from the store and got stopped at a stop-light by a parade of bikers. It was the LONGEST thing I had ever seen. I think I sat through 10 light cycles before it ended. It was like watching a parade. In March our Curves here does a food drive. I don't know if the new owner will continue. I hope so. It's a worthy cause too. I don't think our Curves has enough membership to do a gift thing, but if we do, I will suggest that we turn the machine nearest a tree to look at it too. I love that idea. Although, the woman that owns the place now is from Africa and I don't know if she celebrates Christmas. Still it's a good time of year to do brotherly things anyway. I would like to see a drive done to donate goods for the vicitms of Hurricane Katrina. Those poor people have nothing left. I still need to make another $ donation to Mercy Corp. or Habitat for Humanity.

I went over to the NEW Curves today and met the new owner. We chatted for quite awhile along with the girl that works there. Then I went in this afternoon to do my workout. I started talking about the foods I made for our Halloween party. They said, "When Barb's here I always get hungry, she talks about food so much." One of the ladies there and I started talking about my cholesterol numbers and how much fat I eat. She seems a bit interested in learning more about LC. I told her if she was interested, I would certainly help her out with it. Don't know if she'll take me up on it or not. We'll see.

Curves was wild here this morning - its a wonder you didn't hear us in US! Everyone was yelling and shouting and in very high spirits! We were trying new leg movements at the free movement stations - and it got a bit out of hand - maybe that should 'out of leg'? The machine got turned around to look at the smiling faces on the donated toys and the happy tree - its a great idea - doesn't matter if people are Christians or not - still a celebratory time eh. Great - Toys for Tots - neat name! Should be interesting to introduce the lowcarb WOE into Curves. I notice a lot of people here either 'diet' OR exercise - not that many follow a committed WOE AND exercise plan - (another WOE!) combined together - THAT's what gets the results!

You got that right!!!! The combination of a WOE AND exercise is the key!!!! And most of the women I talk to at my Curves don't do a WOE either. I tried to get a LC support group started at mine last year, but only got a couple of takers and then it just fizzled. So, I still talk about LC. I would LOVE to get a support group going!!!!!

I went today and did a vigorous workout.

Hey Barb and Fox...so after my terrible experience at 24 hour fitness I have made an appointment to join curves. I start on Monday...any tips for me?

I'm curious...I have heard that you can only go 3 times a week, even if you'd like to go more....do either of you know the real scoop on that? Also...do you know if your membership is good at any location or just the one you sign up at?

questions...questions...questions...inquiring minds want to know
