It's fantastic that even with your computer job with the current deadline constraints you are going to work hard. Can't wait to hear those fantastic #'s!Based on the best evidence as of the end of 2003, Dr. Catrine Tudor-Locke recommends the following: Classification of pedometer-determined physical activity in healthy adults: 1) Under 5000 steps/day may be used as a "sedentary lifestyle index" 2) 5,000-7,499 steps/day is typical of daily activity excluding sports/exercise and might be considered "low active." 3) 7,500-9,999 likely includes some exercise or walking (and/or a job that requires more walking) and might be considered "somewhat active." 4) 10,000 steps/day indicates the point that should be used to classify individuals as "active". 5) Individuals who take more than 12,500 steps/day are likely to be classified as "highly active". - Walk my oldest ds (about 4 miles) to school pulling two little ones in their wagon. In a second I'll be hopping on my elliptical for an hour. Cleaning, then walk ds back from school..... should be a great day for steps! I'll go ahead and post my pedometer steps later too. Should be classified with the "highly active" crowd. |

| Seeing as we went to watch my grandsons' play t-ball last night there was no time for treadmill for me. I would think cutting the grass could be classed as exercise cause I was sure sweating when I finished.

| Great information-thanks. Because of my walk this morning I should reach the "somewhat active" category. Hmmm-how many trips can I make to the loo and back rooms? Now I'm inspired to get up to the next category.![]() I have an elliptical trainer, a NordicTrack, that I haven't used since I put on all the weight. Have been staring at it (30 steps to and 30 steps back! ), and will probably start up again soon. The only thing is that the darn thing squeaks and the sound drives me nutso. (short trip) |

| I'm planning a half hour on the indoor bike tonight. Several things to do this afternoon so the workout will have to wait! My shower last night was great! It's amazing how much you forget how nice it is to get a shower till you can't for a few days! I got all the bandaids changed, too. I can't believe that an inner body part can be removed from such a small incision!

| Back and leg pain status quo(still there, but low level and enough to be aggrevating...grrrr) so I walked. Still didn't push it with a true fitness walk, but I did STBO! har! walked: 77 min/4.28 miles/227 cal burn/avgsp 3.19(waaay slow for me and that's the reason for the crummy calorie burn!) glad everybody is movin' and groovin' in here! WTG everyone!!! yay! ![]() a note about pedometers for anyone thinking of purchasing one: I've read a *Ka-billion* articles on them and have unfortunately, gone through several them. The gest of the info from the articles are: cheap is NOT the way to go. Also beware of just so called *steppers/step counters*, as they are often times as much as 50% off!(can be either way). The most impressive article I read, (if I can find the link again, will post it) was that moderately priced, ie at least $20.00 for a pedometer produce the best accuracey of step counts, miles, etc. The better ones also have you enter your gender, height and weight, in addition to your stride count. The last one I got was a Sportsline 360, and so far, it's been right on except for calorie burn. I still use fitday to calculate that. hth s happy trails.......

| Out the door by 5:45 this morning as we are going to have a miserably hot day-yuck. Walked for an hour. Yesterday I walked 9,486 steps-oh yeah-10,000 steps is in reach. Of course the vast majority was during my am walk-the rest of the day my fat fanny was sitting in the chair in front of the computer. ![]() I'm thinking of taking a weight lifting class this is offered by our park service. It's for building bone strength and definition and looks like a good way to start. |

| Last night I only did just over a mile on the treadmill at 3.7 mph. My legs seem to be getting weaker not stronger while walking. What's up with that? Oh well, even a little is better than nothing.

| DH and I went out for a nice bike ride at the park this morning. I rode carefully and really enjoyed being out there. Can't wait till I am all healed so I can really ride again. I'll be doing some light upper body weights later today.

| Walked for 75 minutes early this morning while it was still cool. Still haven't jumped on the elliptical yet, but I do walk back there and stare at it now and then. |

Thank you for that detailed information on pedometer steps, I see now how way under I am doing activity wise that sorta puts into perspective how much more I could and should be doing and has motivated me more to plan more physical activity in my week than what I had planned for in just going to the gym. | Finally jumped on the elliptical and did 20 minutes at the lowest setting. Wasn't bad-I put old disco music on my portable CD player and just went for it. I love the pedometer-has shown me that I've gotten really lazy now that I'm working at home. When I was still at the hospital I was always out and about and moving much of the day. Good wake up call. And thanks for the good pedometer info. |
