Just got back from a 2hour walk in the Nature Preserve up the block. What a gorgeous, magical place-I think I'm gonna pitch a tent and live there. My legs are getting strong from all this walking-feels good.

Today I was so active I ended up with 15,234 steps for the day. Nothing aerobic but excellent day in steps!

Took a 60 minute walk this morning and will take another walk past lunch.
It's just starting to sink into my little round head that this is going to be a never ending journey. I'm not going to hit some high step count one day and then be able to sit back relax, and savor my victory. I'll have to get up the next day and get moving. So I don't need to beat myself up if I don't reach my goal for the day as I am moving in the right direction no matter what-towards health. (It takes me awhile to figure out these things-I'm stubborn.)

Kat,
While I would be the last person in the world to discourage someone from exercise, I don't necessarily agree with getting over 20,000 steps in a day, especially if you are just starting out with exercise. You are very wise to have your realization early on that even exercise is a journey and can't be mastered in a crash course.
Just this morning in my email, I received this link to an article on the subject of *steps*. See it
here. Pretty interesting stuff, I think. Anyway, I think you are doing splendid my dear, and personally, for myself, I am quite happy with 10-12K steps a day. To tell the truth, anymore than that on a daily basis, would probably have the old hip joints aching.

walked 53 min/3.41 miles/189 cal burn.

happy trails........

Thanks for the link Shell. I think I realized there was a problem with my thinking when I was walking through the Nature Preserve yesterday. There I was surrounded by unbelievable beauty and one part of my mind was pushing me forward to optimize my step count. I stopped myself, took a deep breath, and just stood still, listened to the birdsong, and allowed that feeling of awe that nature instills to wash over me. Enjoying the journey is what it's all about.

Shelley, my Grandma and my Aunt were nurses and they wore the hat, too! My Grandma was in labor and delivery most of her career and my Aunt was in surgery and then taught for a long time and is now retired.

I got out for a bike ride today - 20.81 miles. I wanted to make sure I got 20 miles so I had to add a little distance right at the end because I wasn't sure how close it would be. Had I known it would be that close to 21 miles, I would have done just a bit more. But by the time I knew, it was too late. It was very windy and I couldn't get that little bit more without heading into the wind. So I called it quits!

I still have to do weights and crunches but I have a few chores first.

I'm off for my am walk-will probably do 60 minutes. Then I'm going to try for 20 minutes on the elliptical after lunch.

Going to jump on the elliptical here in a few minutes. Plan on doing 1 hour since I'll get a bit of extra activity walking to the store with the kids this evening.

I got another windy bike ride - 21.17 miles. I don't know if I'll be doing anything else today or not. I'm thinking of doing a yoga dvd later but I've got a lot of cooking to do first.

So there I was merrily pumping away on the elliptical, Donna Summer's "Hot Love" thumping away and then I felt the worse burning pain in my groin and inner thigh. Yikes! I jumped off the trainer and hopped around the room making these embarrassing whimpering noises. I pulled a muscle in my groin of all places for God's sake. Ouch! Took me awhile to walk without groaning but I think it's going to be okay. Sheesh.

Oh Katlina! Wonder why you had pain there. Maybe the tension is to high? Maybe just a mystery you'll never figure out too. Take care!
