Default October '08 exercise accountability

Yesterday I did manage a short walk with my son and M "I babysit". Then DH and I got a babysitter and did some construction work for a couple of hours. I dropped my calories a few hundred to compensate but today can increase up to 1600. 1 hour of Curves circuit training this morning and then 4 hours of construction work this evening. Active day!

Mama - Do you think it's possible to increase in strength in the knee area so that the soreness decreases? I'm not so sure how the knee works but I certainly hope this is the case. / My dad was in the military and never had weight problems until he retired. He did have his first heart attack when he was at a healthy weight so exercise to me is very important despite the size of ones clothes. / Enjoy your exercise with your family today!
-
Lucy - Have a good time with your doggie trainer!

I've got severe osteoarthritis in my right knee (or as they showed me in the x-ray, bone rubbing on bone!) I know that losing weight is supposed to help but my body is only losing on it's own calendar and not how I want!

The dr. said that he may try a series of shots for it this fall. I will most likely make an appt. next month to see what that's all about. Otherwise it's a total replacement which he won't do for at least 5 more years because I'm not old enough yet!

I am used to the constant soreness and have been able to get really good workouts despite the crummy knee. The only thing is that I really miss walking the trails at the park, walking on the treadmill, etc. We bought the treadmill 2 years ago and got a really good one. It's sitting downstairs unused because my DS and DH are too tall and can't stand up straight in the basement if they are on it.

hi gang!

Heather....thanks for starting us an October exercise thread.

Linda...I peeked at the photos of your son's wedding; very lovely! Thanks for sharing.

Well...obviously I'm back from vacation. Had a wonderful time and as always, it ended to soon! We did a few short hikes, more like walks actually. Surpriseningly, the scales were not to hateful when I got home...LOL!

today, eased back into fitness walking:
walked: 57 min/3.56 miles/ 197 cal burn/ 7520 fitness steps/ pedo off at 4PM with 10,490 steps.

happy trails.....

Shelley, glad you enjoyed the wedding pictures! I'm still waiting to see the official pictures from the photographer...in the meantime, I think I've looked at the ones we took a million times!

Today's workout was 20 minutes each of the cross trainer and the recumbent bike...

Hey!! Yesterday was a nice relaxing day. Had a ton of errands to do and then donated blood plasma. Managed about 8,500 steps anyway. Today will be a step day of 20,000 I'm hoping since I'm already at 16,000 with the help of 1 hour curves and then some good ol' house cleaning in a bit.
-
Linda - I've heard good things about those shots and I hope that it works just as good for you. Then you'll be able to walk on your nice treadmill. I've heard about walking DVD's that are made for walking with your treadmill. You just put them on your TV and walk away. I heard it's wonderful and time just flys. Hmmm....I really need to find a DVD for me.
-
Shelley - Glad to hear that the scales weren't reflecting a usual free for all Vacation eating schedule. / Great job on the walking!
-
Lucy - I posted in the September thread too before realizing it was a new month, lol.

I did weights this morning, a bike ride after lunch and I just finished the kettlebell workout....time for a nice shower!

I'll be calling for a knee appt. later this month...I want to be sure biking is done for the season before I go again. The wife of one of DH's coworkers just had partial knee replacement and she is younger than me. I guess all the other alternatives didn't work for her. I hate the thought of being down after surgery but if it's the only thing, I'll have to do it eventually....

Linda,
I don't know how old you are, but more and more, *younger* (as in 50's) folks are getting joint replacements. The trend is to use the long life titanium replacements. That usually gets people to the next stage of their "joint life"....around mid 70's. Then a re-do if necessary, lasts the rest of your life.
Quality of life should be the priority; not how old a person is, IMO.
Good luck with your ortho/sports's medicine appt.

today:
walked: 82 min/ 5.06 miles/ 281 cal burn/ 10, 701 fitness steps, >14,000 total steps when I took the pedo off at 6PM.

happy trails......

exercise day off. I did get a pretty good calorie burn washing the SUV and ironing for about 90 minutes! Ack! Hopefully, this will be the last time I have to iron summer clothes!
I'm ready to move into fall and flannel shirts and jeans; enough of the shorts and capris already!!

happy trails.......

walked: 74 min/ 4.60 miles/ 255 cal burn/ 9724 fitness steps.
I would have walked longer, but I think I've herniated another disc in my back...darn it!
Started to get back pain with radiation down into the left leg around 4 miles. I felt lucky to have hobbled home.(without looking to goofy, I hope)

happy trails.....

Default October '08 exercise accountability

Certainly did a lot of work on the construction of the houses yesterday. Today I did 30 minutes on the elliptical and am currently walking, slow but steady, on the treadmill for 1 hour. May do another 30 minutes on the elliptical later after we watch Biggest Loser we recorded last week. Next day off Tuesday so plan on pushing hard in the exercise department the next few days.
-
mamagiff - To be without pain for the trade off for a few weeks down from knee surgery I bet is hands down worth it.
-
Shelley - You are just kicking behind in the pedometer department Shelley!! Great job on those steps! / I'm so sorry about your back. Will you be setting up an appointment tomorrow to have it checked out?

Today is going to be a kicking butt day since tomorrow is exercise day off. 1 hour of curves, 1 hour walk, 30 minutes weight training and then a few hours of construction work this evening if weather cooperates. High winds and possible thunderstorms PM.

Take care!!

I took the weekend off...hadn't had a rest day in quite a while.

Today we went to the fitness center and did weights. I'm hoping that I can get some bike time downstairs tonight but I'm having a bad knee day so maybe not. I know I can't do the kettlebell workout today.

I went to the fitness center and did a half hour on the bike....will do another half hour on the bike downstairs later this afternoon. Not sure what the problem with my knee is now but I will be calling this week for an appt. I'm taking it easy for a day or two first to see if that helps. The bike doesn't bother it at all but walking is another story...or should I say limping?!
