| total fitness miles walked for November = 22.71 miles Linda...we have those same winds...gusts upwards to 37-38 mph....yeeesh! Suppose to maybe get some significant storms later today...possibly tornadic activity. It does feel *weird* outside. Also, Linda, I've been meaning to ask you how you got started with the kettlebell exercises, and can you see results pretty quickly?? Are you close to goal?? Gosh...you exercise like a mad woman! hehe! happy trails......

| Shelley, I've noticed an increase in strength with the kettlebells. When I first started, I was using a 10 lb. KB and could barely do 5 minutes. I worked up to using the 15 lb. KB and the 20 lb. KB but then had to stop the workouts for a couple of weeks when my knee was bothering me. I'm using the 10 lb. KB and the 15 lb. KB right now but am planning on moving back up again next week. I really love this kind of workout because it's full body strength and cardio all at once. I have several dvds although right now I'm just using the short workout dvd. I am still trying to find a balance with the fitness center and the at home workouts that won't have me worn out at the end of the day! There are lots of clips of kettlebell workouts on You Tube and if you google kettlebell, you will come up with several sites that are good. I'm nowhere near goal...still have at least 100 lbs. to lose...but I'm going to get there eventually...I just enjoy working out!

| Got my woods run in early(went farther as the weather was sooo nice again) 5 miles. Also got a 1/2 hr strength training session in this afternoon after raking some more leaves. |

| Linda, Thanks for the scoop on the KBs. I had read about them several years ago in an online article, but it was written as a*guy only* exercise. Now there is a ton of info on them, it seems. But as far as toning, it sounds like you are happy with the results, then? I've got rotten elbows,(epicondylitis, in both/steroid injects, over 3 times on each side and surgery on the left...ack!) so almost any upper body workout I try to do is a NO go if I add anything heavier than 3 or 4 pounds. But maybe I could get something going if I used both arms together with 10#s or less. Hmmm....something to think on. Anyhoo....thanks again. Exercise day off for me today; tomorrow is a work day, with many surgery cases, so I know I'll rack up some miles tomorrow...LOL! happy trails....

| Shelley, I think you can buy kettlebells as light as 5 lbs. but I also think you could just use a light dumbbell to do the workout, too. It would be worth trying. When you do the swings with them, you really aren't using the upper body to do the work as much as the hips and legs. I am not quite sure how to describe it but I bet you could at least do the swings. There might be a few moves that would not work for you, just like there are some that I can't do because of my knee. I just fast forward over them and do what I can! Today was 20 minutes each on the cross trainer and the recumbent bike. I played a little with settings on the cross trainer because I've kept it at a beginner level since I started. Time to make it a little harder, I think! I did ok with a level 3 (was using level 1 and felt like a wimp!). Then I did the kettlebell workout when I got home. I need to start back to rotating the dvds instead of always doing the short one!

| "official" exercise day off, but I hit the ground running at work at 0530, and didn't sit down until nearly 3PM! So, as far as I'm concerned, I'm filing today in the *very active* category! back to finess walking tomorrow....... happy trails......
