no fitness walk yesterday....cloudy and blustery cold. Of course after I showered, did my hair and makeup so I could run to a few 50% off sales, the sun came out and it warmed up to a balmy 45! Oh well.

today, however:
walked: 60 min/ 3.81 miles/212 cal burn/8064 fitness steps(and I'll add in some more shopping steps)
total December fitness miles= 36.40 miles

happy trails.....

I took the day off Saturday and then yesterday as soon as my brother and family left, DH and I headed to the fitness center for a good workout! DH will be working the day shift this week so he said if I wait, we can go to the fitness center when he gets home everyday. Works for me! I will do my basement biking this morning since my weights workout will take the same amount of time as his. If I do biking there, he has to wait around for another 20 minutes.

I'm new to this site and just beginning my new way of life. Any suggestions on what kind of exercises I should start off with?

Thanks in advance!!

Hi Ronda,
Welcome to LCE, by the way!

Assumming you are healthy(no contraindications to exercise), WALKING is probably the best exercise to start off with, especially for women. A good brisk walk burns calories, and it's a weight bearing exercise which helps prevent bone loss and osteoporsis.
Besides, it's an easy exericise to start with; just put on a comfy pair of athletic shoes, and start off with a 10 minute stroll.(Walk 5 minutes in one direction, turn it and come back home...and you've done a 10 minute walk!)
Start off slowly, as with any exercise, then build your time and frequency up steadily, and before you know it, you'll be up to a good 30-60 min fitness walk.
There are tons of good websites with info on how to build up you time and stamina with fitness walking. (Just google *fitness walking*)
Then at some point, you will want to add in some upper body weight training and strengthening exercises. Again, this can be done at home with a few pair of varying weight dumb-bells and a google search on *how to do it*.

Good luck on your journey to healthy eating and living!
hth

happy trails......

walked:
60 min/ 3.78 miles/ 210 cal burn/ >8000 steps; then a mini shopping trip good for another 2000 steps!

total December fitness miles = 40.18 miles not a good walking month, but 40 miles is better than NO 40 miles! LOL!
I probably won't walk tomorrow due to Dr's appt early, then grocery shopping and house cleaning to get ready for my DD and DGS visit. We haven't seen them since last Christmas, so we're just pretty darn excited about their visit! (typical grandparents...LOL!)

happy trails....

I got a great walk in both yesterday and today for a total of about 9 miles. I needed that as I haven't been doing much since 12/22.

Also dug out on old dvd and did 1/2 today and will finish tomorrow.
