    Default Body Fat %

Well, I recently took down all the measurments for www.mybodycomp.com to measure my bf %.....but it seems wrong to me...I don't know.

It told me that I have 242lbs of LBM, and 78 lbs of fat....which makes it 23%?

I have good muscle mass but I would think my body fat is higher than that, but maybe I am wrong? I will re measure tommorow with some help from a friend to get the best reading, because its midnight right now...till tommorow!

Are you using calipers, or just a tape measure? The formulas that have you plug in your measurements in inches are really not accurate at all, especially for people outside a fairly narrow range defined as 'the norm'. 242 lbs of lean mass would be a body builder's dream. I don't think that number sounds realistic, given your stats.

Look at it this way - you're still looking to lose 99 pounds. You want as much of that as possible to be fat and not LBM. If you really only had 78 lbs of fat, you'd have to lose all of it (which of course you could not do and live) plus 21 pounds of LBM.

I am not sure whether you are male or female. 23% is a little high (just over 'healthy', really; not obese) for a male but would be just about right for me, as a 32 year old female.

Carb, I tried to use this calculator but couldn't log in. There must be a problem on that site.

Anyone aware of any other BF% calculators?

Of the BF calculators on line that use measurements, I actually like mybodycomp, since it, at least, uses a huge number of measurements. Granted there are certain assumptions, as Laurelyn says.

Perhaps some assistance in measuring will give you a more accurate picture. If nothing else, any system that you use consistently will show you which direction you are going!
