Default August Tracking

Oh my gosh -- It's already the first of August. For Elyssa and me that means "Back to School". It's the beginning of the "new year". Let's all make a resolution to keep track of each other, keep track of our eating and try to make some tracks exercising.

Below is a portion of Elyssa's post from the July thread. I'll bring it forward since she has her August goal set out.
Quote:
My goal for this month is to exercise at least 30 minutes every day. Today - 30 minutes of pilates. It felt great once I was finished. I figure I need to get back into the habit of exercising again. Plus, one month till my birthday!
I need to set an exercise goal too. I am the ultimate couch potato!

Tomorrow I'm off to Dallas for the last trip for a good while. I have some curtains that I made to hang for DD and I need to take DDad for a doctor's visit. Tuesday I'm going to a workshop at the Federal Reserve. Nothing like really divergent interests --- decorating and economic policy......

my goals for the month -
do my Curves workout 3x week, water aerobics 2x week, only weigh 4x month -and that should be weekly, not all this week
I'm needing to disassociate myself from the scale.

tried on some clothes today - was comfortable in the 16s, so didn't buy anything - well a couple bras - the bustline is finally reacting to the changes in my body - it was the last place the inches came off of. went from 40D to 36C - they fit beautifully - only bought 2, now I need to go back and get several more and get rid of the baggy ones I have been wearing.

as far as the clothes, gonna wait until the 14s fit. Not like I need anything - some exercise capris and racer back shirts I bought a month or 2 ago now fit just fine. but I just wanted to go shopping.

had a garage sale this weekend - absolutely such a waste of time financially - but did get one of the garages cleaned up. Now on to organizing the one on my side of the house. (we stashed everything not being sold in this one - lawnmowers, boxes of stuff to keep, etc).

Sure is August all right! I'll have to think about goals, too. After giving my wrist the last couple of weeks off, I really need to get back in the swing.

Judy, Elyssa--back to reality, eh?

MaryKay, congrats on the new bras and new, well--you know!! Sorry about the garage sale, but getting things cleaned out one way or another is a good thing.

We had dinner at that fancy restaurant last night--the one I had the $100 gift certificate for. Wow. It was incredible! And I didn't embarrass myself, either!

First official day back to work. I got very little accomplished. Although, I did fill out some paperwork and was able to mention that I am helping with the board of regents meeting next week. Any work I do of that nature looks good. Tomorrow, I have a mentoring training session. That should be fun.

Haven't got my exercise in yet today. But, I still have plenty of time. I had to type a few things for work.

BC, the dinner sounds divine! Great to get out in a different atmosphere than usual, isn't it? You appreciate and taste everything so much more when the surroundings change.

Purplefrost, sounds like "so far, so good" with work. I hope it keeps going well.

I decided to have a completely sweet-free day - nothing sweet at all, all day long. No sweetner in my coffee, no diet soda, no strawberries, no LC dessert. Even eating LC, I've been having food cravings. Maybe the cravings are not as bad as when I eat real sugar or starchy foods, but there are cravings. Perhaps the taste of sweet is fooling my brain and body into thinking it needs more... and more!

You see, I haven't yet lost the weight I gained in May; and this has gone on too long. Sweet-free is my challenge - hopefully, I can break out of the gain 2-3/lose 2-3 cycle. It wasn't so bad earlier in the day. After dinner is more difficult, for some reason. Maybe because I haven't had anything sweet for 24 hours? Maybe because dessert is a life-long habit? I was feeling a bit deprived, so I whipped 1/8 cup of cream with a tiny bit cocoa and Thicken/Thin. It was kind of like a non-sweet pudding.

I haven't set a time frame for how long to go sweet-free, other than day-by-day. Three weeks would be nice, but that seems like an eternity right now, LOL! (Maybe that's a symptom that I ~really~ need to do this!)

Anyway, I'm really going to try to focus on the veggies, meat and eggs. Hopefully, the lack of sweets won't lead me to overdo with dairy, nuts, soy chips, or pork rinds instead.

Wish me luck, cherubs!

I'M BAAAAAACK!!!

Right now I am dealing with "Mt Fuji's Revenge," (you know like Montezuma's Revenge when you go to Mexico?) and I am miserable. I've had diarrhea for a week! It was impossible to eat lc in Japan. First, we didn't know when we would eat, or where. And second, I didn't know WHAT half the stuff put in front of me was. I have to admit that I ate what I knew most days. I did try stuff, but got real tired of seaweed and fish. Even though I haven't eaten for 24 hours, I got on the scale this morning and had gained 7 pounds from when I left. It's got to be a lot of water. My hands and legs and feet look like sausages.

The wedding was incredible. Two weddings, really. One in traditional Japanese kimonos for the bride and groom. One in the church (with 330 people) with white dress and tux for the bride and groom, then dinner for all those people with speech after speech.

The weather was hot and humid. I sweated badly.

Today I've had only two pieces of toast so far. Lots of water though. I'll write more tomorrow when I feel better. 13 hours of travel yesterday! Brutal!

Peace, Peg

Welcome back, Peg! The wedding sounds just amazing - I'm staggered at the thought of organizing not ONE, BUT TWOwedding ceremonies. Were they both the same day? AyAY! It all sounds very beautiful - I bet the photos will be really special.

I'm sorry about the intestinal distress. Does Pepto Bismo help? It's often recommended for the South of the Border variety of traveller's trots. Anyway, don't let it go on too long without getting a culture checked by a doctor - ya know? Don't want to let those foreign organisms have their way with you for too long.

Talking Re: August Tracking

Teelbee, good luck to you with the no sweets.

Peg, great to see you back!! Sorry you are not doing to good at the moment. Hope you feel better tomorrow. Get your rest, you must be exhausted.

Well, I must admit, I went to bed about two hours ago. I was tired and had already fallen asleep on the couch twice. But, as I laid there tossing and turning, I was no longer sleepy. Plus, I was thinking the entire time, I haven't done any exercise today and it is only the third day this month. I can't mess it up now. So, I just finished my 30 minutes of pilates. And now I don't want to crawl into bed. At least I don't have anything tomorrow until 11:30.

Tomorrow, I have a luncheon at the president's house. It is a meeting of mentors and proteges. I am a mentor! Isn't that shocking. I got to talk to my protege, Amanda, today and I think we will get along really well. Just strange for me to be in that position after only being here two years. And that was mentioned a few times today at our mentoring session for mentors only. The comment was, "We're all old here and will be retiring or dieing soon, except for Elyssa." Oh well. This experience will look good for when I go up for promotion again in two years.

At work today, I realized that I don't have to do as much prep work as I first thought for my courses. Three of the four different courses that I am teaching this semester are changing content. Luckily, I have notes on most of the chapters already. I believe I need to only make notes on two chapters and the rest I can pull from notes from last semester and reorganize. YEAH!!! That will make life much easier.

Hi Everyone!

First, welcome back, Peg!! Sorry to hear you brought an unwelcome momento back with you, though. Hope you feel better soon.

Teel, best wishes on your sweetfree day. Probably a good idea for all of us!

Judy, how's the furniture?

Elyssa, hey, not surprising to be a mentor! Congrats on the recognition for your work!

I've been busy getting a batch of jewelry ready, as well as trying to become more proficient at micro photography and digital imaging. And today, I got inventory and pricing software. LOL! this is starting to look a lot like work!!! But I did get a decent business card designed in the midst of all the hilarity. I guess that makes having a business official, doesn't it,

I'm pleased that I made through a second day with no sweets, and I'm trying hard to not compensate by eating too much cheese and nuts. I made a cup of coffee this afternoon. My hand -all on it's own- reached out and grabbed the 0 Carb Syrup Base and squirted some in my coffee. I looked at the cup - weighing my options - then dumped it and made another cup. I feel good aboiut that.

It's a challenge, all right - feels almost like induction. Maybe that's what I should do - induction? Hmmm... I'm not ready to give up nuts yet.

Well, I'll try to stay sweet free for another day - see how it goes. Day by day... I'm not in a place to commit much further out than the next 2 to 4 hours, LOL!

Hi All!

How nice to see this thread come to life again! Good to see you Teelbee and Elyssa! Also nice to have some talk about accountability. I've been guilty of not checking in about my diet and certainly not expecting me to be accountable. When you all talk about it, it inspires me.

Same weight this morning (177). My body is still retaining water. I woke up at 3:15 am and was absolutely soaked. I got up to change and felt lousy, with pounding headache and fever. Took my temp and it was 101. Whatever I have is wrining me out, I'll tell ya. Yesterday I had four small pieces of toast and 2 pieces of lc pizza. Today I'll try to eat more normally. I was able (so far) to keep those in my tummy.

Sounds like you teachers are gearing up for Fall. That is happening at the church too. I'm sure I'll face a stack of mail this morning. We leave in two weeks for Walt Disney World. Taking my DD, her "domestic partner' and my three gkids. I can't wait to see the kids.

Have a great day and thanks for the welcome backs.
Peace, Peg

Teel, I did the two weeks of Gittleman's Fat Flush a couple of years ago and was absolutely amazed at how wonderful I felt afterward, even though giving up what I held dear was difficult--A/S's and caffeine in particular. So I have some sympathy for you! What kept me hanging in there was knowing (after the first few days) that I was feeling better, losing weight, and there was a time limit!

Peg, really it sounds like you should consider going to the doctor if you haven't.

Thanks for the concern, friends! I did call the Triage nurse this morning and she suggested that I drink clear liquids, and rest for a couple of days and then call if things are not better. Tummy is definitely better. No diarrhea since yesterday. Still feeling wrung out, but nurse said that diarrhea makes you exhausted. Soooo I'm at work now, but will leave right after lunch to go home. I'm drinking water. Looking much better (even to me) and feeling better too. She didn't seem concerned about the fever or the sweating. Maybe it's normal with "the trots."

Peace, Peg

Peg - glad your are feeling better. Maybe it would be a good idea to get a parasite check? Depending on your doc or HMO, you could just drop off a "sample"; thus, no need for a doctor visit unless something turns up in the lab?

I'm planning on a 3rd sweet free day. Somewhat to my disappointment, I have not seen results on the scale at all. I've really been on plan, so I'd hoped for a little "reinforcement" for my good behavior. (YES! - instant gratification - gimme!)

I cannot say I'm surprised - my weight loss/gain often tends to lag behind the actual diet - sometimes by as much as a week or more. :(

Maybe I'll break out the old ketostix and see if I'm even in ketosis.

BC - Gittleman's Fat Flush? I've read references to a fat flush in these forums a few times over the last year, but I'm really not familiar with the concept or the details. What is it? (my mental picture is something like ... you only eat olive oil, butter, and lard for 3 days ... I hope that's a gross misconception.)

Everyone - have a good day today!

Veggies Rule!
