| Quick drive-by This weekend was a bust on the flooring project. DH did "something" and has had muscle spasms in his back all weekend. He's really disgusted, but then considering how little he exercises, I'm not all that surprised. I do hope it eases off pretty soon, or I'll have to force him to the DR. Teel, Peg, I'll have to paint next year *after* the flooring. We'll have to see whether we can have it done or do most of it ourselves. There are a couple of drywall repairs around the skylight (they ALL leak eventually, darn it) that will need to be professionally done, and the cathedral part of the ceiling is right over a stairwell. No amount of scaffolding will get me up there, LOL! I just "remembered" that I have to renew my driver's license this week, and my notice says I need to be prepared to take the written test LOL! Something else to be stressed about.Hope you all are doing well, resisting bad influences, and having some fun.

| Bren: I SO glad to know who is "doing" the stress these days. I'll send mine your way, okay? Then I won't have to do it which would be excellent! My DH did "something" to his back this weekend too. He gets out of the chair like an old man. He won't slow down. His powers for denial when it comes to his pain are amazing. I may have to take him to the Dr too. "Let's wait until it gets really bad," is what he says. I wonder when that is? The last time it was when he could no longer walk. I took him to the ER in the backseat of the car! Sheesh. Oh well. It's his body..... I'm having a wonderful quiet and alone day today. DH is gone to a meeting, and I've almost succeeded in clearing my desk which looked like a pig sty this morning. I'm so proud of myself. I also have to do some heavy reading to prepare for teaching two classes this week. One of them is helping people apply their faith values to their political values! Whew! I'm puttin' on my armor! On Saturday my weight was 174. I was pretty pleased with that. I haven't weighed since. I'm eating pretty lc, but having trouble getting the veggies in. I have them here, and I have promised myself (and Teelbee) that I would be more diligent. Just haven't yet. Tomorrow we go to a parishioners for our staff meeting. She serves lunch. We ate there last year and it was just one big blow out for all of us on diets. She has promised "simple" this year. We'll see. I keep being surprised to see my clavicles. Don't know why, but I haven't seen them in so long. I think my skin is finally adjusting to the weight loss. Maybe this means that I can go down a little bit more! Hope it's a good week for all. Don't work too hard all of you. Peace, Peg 1/1/03 205/174/165 5'8" |

| Hi all, I promise that I've been checking in to see what everyone has been up to, but I had so much going on Friday and Saturday that I didn't have time to post. Saturday I hosted a practice meet for 150 kids. We started about 11 and finished around 4:30. The kids take seven tests (50 questions -- 30 min. each). Awards are given for the top three scores in each of the three grade divisions. By itself, running one level of schools is a pretty good project, but we decided to divide the schools up according to size. I ran out of white ribbons about half way thorough and had to use up the extras that a friend brought me from her meet. with replacement ribbons, 53 pizzas, and 12 cases of drinks later, I'll probably come out with a couple of hundred in profit. That's a hard way to do it. We had the day off today. Thank heavens. I did give myself a treat. I picked up a book in the library on Friday afternoon. Have any of you read The Lovely Bones? It's really good -- strange, but good. It's not very big, so I'll probably get it finished in a day or so. Bren --- A driver's license test! Peg --- Congratulations on the 174. Good job. Sorry about both of your DHs. It's not pleasant living with a cranky hurting guy. Elyssa -- Waiting to hear about the date. :great: Teel -- Oh, those Mission tortillas are wonderful. That's the closest that I let myself get to bread. I try to limit myself to no more than one a day (and preferably NOT everyday.) Weight this morning --139. Dinner tonight --- large. Weight tomorrow-- probably back to 140. Oh well, at least it was nice for a day. I'm off to enjoy recreation reading for a bit before bed. |

| LOL, Peg, sure just send the stress this way and keep it coming! Give me your best shot Oh, I do not envy you your cl**** Peg. I am so confrontation avoidant I positively run screaming from any mention of politics, much less "faith and political values" ????? Ai, yi, yi!! (Although I'd love to be a mouse and listen through the keyhole.....) And let's hear it for Peg's clavicle! LOL!!!!! Go revive the "Say something nice thread Peg!!! Really, that's great. Good grief, Judy. 150 kids. Again, not moi!!! LOL!!! But I'm glad you have the day off and can relax a bit. I thought The Lovely Bones was a wonderful book, but I almost didn't make it through the first chapter. Glad I persevered, and I think you'll enjoy it. OK, now I gotta go study the stupid Rules of the Road. Can you believe it. Stupid Illinois, I say! (Really, I'm not as cranky as I've sounded lately. Honest!!)

| Our weekend went pretty well - my back is still somewhat painful, but it's within tolerable limits now. So, I was able to get out and about and do things, which perked me up a lot. My friend went out of town and we took care of her daughter for the weekend. Our "10-year old" guest turned out to be 12 yo - my! how time flies! I thought we just had her 10th birtday last spring, but that was 2 years ago :ivyhead:. She was the best behaved I've ever seen her (except at Xmas times, LOL!). On Saturday, we went out for pizza (I had a wonderful salmon salad), then we watched a DVD - Black Beauty. It was lovely, but I'd forgotten how sad it can be. Sunday, we took our guest and a friend of hers to the Renn Faire. The friend didn't have a costume, so I had lots of fun pulling out pieces and "dressing" her. They both looked adorable. DH wasn't in the best of moods, but we had a good time anyway. I bought an ice cream cone, but turned the major part of it over to DH to finish. While the girls when through a maze, one of the Renn Faire lads made much of me (I was dressed as a noble woman). He paid me a compliment, so I gave him my hand to kiss. He kissed all the way up my arm to the back of my neck. OOOoooolala! I asked DH if he was taking notes, LOL! When I weighed myself Sunday afternoon, I was 137, which is probably on the light side of reality due to dehydration from wearing a heavy costume at the faire. As today is a semi-holiday, my sister and I drove up Highway 92 over the mountains to the coastal village of Half Moon Bay. The drive is famous for it's scenery and a string of wonderful nurseries and farms. The nurseries and farmers are gearing up for their major Pumpkin Festival next weekend. Half Moon Bay is still a charming little village and a worthwhile destination in it's own right. It's like stepping back in time - a quaint main street lined with shops, cafes, and an old-tyme grocery, surrounded by pretty neighborhoods homes and gardens. All-in-all, it was probably the best weekend I've had in months. I'm fending off some carb cravings from a few minor indiscretions; but hopefully will be fully back on track tomorrow. So, I hope you all have wonderful things awaiting you this week. Here's to good luck and good choices!

| Oh Teelbee! I love Half Moon Bay! I do envy your ability to just get up and drive there! I'm also glad that you are beginning to feel better. Bren: Just sent a package of stress your way this afternoon. Still moaning and groaning over this cl*** I have to prepare for tomorrow night. I've gotten few signups for it, and i suspect it is because most people are like you. They are afraid that we are going to be intoleranht iof each other. I've promised a "non-partisan" discussion, but I think that people just don't trust themselves! Judy: You sound chipper, my dear! I can't imagine spending my Saturday with 150 teenaged scholars! But I'm so glad that you are willing to do it. Kudos to you. Had an absolute blow out for lunch. She sent each of us home with a bag of chocolate chip cookies! Arrrgh! Peace to you all, Peg 1/1/03 205/174/165 5'8" |

| The weirdest thing happened today. It's was cool enough this afternoon that I wouldn't have minded having on a long sleeved shirt, and tonight I actually dug out a sweatshirt. The windows are open and the air conditioner hasn't run all day. Oh my gosh..... what am I going to do if fall is really coming?? I may have to give up my flip flops and sandals and find "real" shoes. Horrors!!! that means panty hose! |

| Been in my panty hose for three weeks now. We've had a couple of freezes, which is good. Kills the bugs! Peg |

| My general rule of panty hose is not after May 1 and not before Oct 1. I've been lucky so far.......well, OK truth time.........I get by as much as possible with knee hose under my pants and rarely wear a dress. Pants outfits are just so much more comfortable. A freeze......... we won't get that for about 6 more weeks. We had a really light winter last year and therefore the mosquitos and other bugs have been awful. We still can't go outside without being eaten alive. I hope we get s spell of really cold weather this year to kill off our bugs. BUT....... that would require wearing a coat. I hate coats. I guess I'd get used to it if I lived where it was a necessity. As it is, unless the weather is in the 40s and the wind is blowing or it is raining, I'll just hustle it up from car to building and try to do without. |

| LOL, Judy. Peg and I feel soooooooooooooo sorry for you!!! Peg, sorry about that lunch :( I hate it when people are generous with cookies and such. Got your package, by the way! TB, your weekend sounds wonderful! I can only imagine Half Moon Bay, and I'm sure I'm not doing it justice. Hmmmm. Is there a mystery series set there are am I confused. Again.... Ah, and full Renn dress, milady!! Do you make your costumes, TB?? Love to see a pic, even a faceless one! Teaching went well tonight, both to my furry clients and their humans

| Our daytime highs are supposedly in the low nineties, though it didn't feel that hot to me. Despite the warm temps, it's definitely fall - the leaves are turning yellow and red and falling like crazy. I planted some fall and winter blooming flowers around the patio and entry walk. I don't usually put in plants this time of year, but I just thought we needed some color. I hope I remember to water them! I don't think I even have a coat. If we go up to the snow in the winter, I borrow one. I decided long ago that a nice wool wrap is much more comfortable than a coat. I started wearing them when I had a long commute and found a coats to be too restricting in the car. They are very handy, as they can double as a lap robe. Over the years, I've bought a couple of different styles from The Welsh Touch (they have a booth at most of the local Highland Games). The wraps they carry are imported from the UK; they are quite warm and soft - not scratchy at all. (http://www.thewelshtouch.com/woolens3.html) ![]() BC, I only made part of my noble woman costume for the Renn Faire. DH bought me a blue velvet overdress last year; and I made the underdress and head dress. I'm not really much of a sewer, but it turned out really nice. I made the peasant outfit I loaned to one of the girls a long time ago - chemise, skirt, and lace up waist cincher. DH got a couple of nice pictures of the girls and me in our Renn Faire outfits, but they are on his computer. I'll try to remember to ask him to give me the files. I weighed 138 today. I felt very nibbly all afternoon, despite eating a good breakfast and lunch. So, I probably had more Flax Soy Tortilla chips and nuts than is good for me.

| In honor of this discussion and our first cool day I wore a skirt and panty hose today. I had to laugh this morning as a number of people commented that it was the first day that they had worn panty hose this year. Thank heavens we don't have a barbaric dress code that requires hose and closed toe and closed heel shoes every day. 139 today, Teel. I'm going to have to wire my jaws to get to 135 for my two year Atkinversary @ Halloween. I may just have to settle for the better measurements that have come from working out regularly at Curves. A good friend looked at me this morning and wanted to know if I had lost more weight. I consider that another victory. Bren is right Peg, maybe we should restart the "good things" thread. |

| Hey, Judy - I'd go for "smaller" over "lighter" any day! Kudos to you for staying failthful to your Curves program. ![]() I hit 139 today, too - which figures, considering what I ate yesterday (and the day before... and the day... ). BC, I bet you are thinking of "Murder She Wrote" with Angela Langsbury. That used to be filmed in Mendocino - about 3 or 4 hours up the coast from Half Moon Bay. Mendocino is even more picturesque than Half Moon Bay. September and October are usually the nicest months for weather on the Northern California coastline. Offshore winds tend to keep the fog out to sea and away from the coast, so they get more hours of sunshine in the fall than in the summer.

| Teel, I love the Ruanas--and the cloaks look nice, too. Thank you for sharing. That's a lovely way to address cool weather. Perhaps I am thinking of Murder, She Wrote. However my mind was going toward a written series. Perhaps Half Moon Bay just sounded like to wonderful a name not to be in a mystery, ya know. Judy, I bet you were quite fetching in your hose and skirt
