| I can't believe it is already October. One more week and we have Fall Break!! I am counting down. Thanks for the advice that all of you have shared concerning my situation. Unfortunately, I haven't seen that student to be able to talk to him. So, I am still waiting to resolve that until Monday. But, I did hear that guy #3 broke up with his girl. Back to the "tracking," I am down to 140. That's officially 80 pounds gone!! I did see 139 for a couple of days, but back to 140 this morning. So, I am not complaining one way or the other. I will see that lower number soon enough. I'll have to be really good about what I eat this weekend. It's Friday, so no classes. I do have a meeting to go to this afternoon though. I plan on going to work within the next hour so I can get alot of things done. I am giving 4 tests next week. Gotta get those made up today and grade some homework. Have a good day!!

| 136.5 today - to my surprise as I didn't expect to recover from my "cake incident" for another couple of days. We are having a dinner party tomorrow with some of DH's professional society friends - it's been scheduled for months. Normally, it's not all that tough, as everyone brings something. I only have to worry about the main course and veggies (and getting the house shiny clean, of course). But it's just bad timing. I'm still hobbling with foot and back pain, and DH broke his wrist on Wednesday. Actually, "barely broken" was the term used. I got to watch "Lost" on the ER television while he was getting x-rayed and splinted. Interesting show - I had quite a conversation with two other waiters. Fortunately, they saw last week's opener and were able to fill me in on some of the characters and plot during the commercials. Between DH, DS, and myself, this is a pretty bad spell, medically. All 3 of us had xrays this week - how weird is that? (and that doesn't even include my back problem or UTI.) Last Saturday night, DH took DS to ER because she broke her toe. I had my foot x-rayed on Monday, as doc doesn't think the foot pain is plantar fasciitis after all. Then, Wednesday, DH fell and broke his wrist. Between the 3 of us, we've spent more time in urgent care and ER in the last week than in the last 15-20 years combined. So, I'm taking ibuprofen during the day and vicodin at night. Even so, it's difficult to find a comfortable position for sleeping. All in all, a lousy week - But, at least I lost some weight! :o PF, Judy, Peg, BC, and MK - hope you all have a great weekend and - be careful out there! :handsome:

| Wow, Teel! I'm sorry that you guys have had such bad luck with bones and health this past week! My grandson broke his wrist this week. He's 9, so its the first I'm sure in a number of breaks. It is no fun to sit in the ER, I know. Hope you will get some relief pretty soon. Aren't you the dancin' family? So, having foot problems is a BIG deal for you. I used to have plantar faciaitis(sp?) years ago. It went away as fast as it came. What does the Dr. think it is if it's not that? BC: I hope your mood is improving. I'm referring to a post in the Sept. forum. We've begun the gray days, I'm afraid. Today is just yucky. Temps in the 60's and just foggy enough to be miserable, but not enough to call it rain. I could be depressed, I suppose, but I have to write a short homily (that's a 10 minute sermon [usually 20 minutes]) today, so I'm chained to my computer trying to be creative. Judy: Hope this is a good weekend for you. Restful. You work hard, girl! Elyssa: Same to you! MK: Where are you Judy: I loved your posting about tracking. I started tracking for real on Fitday this week. I was stunned to see how many carbs I am eating! Stunned!! By the way, I'm coming to your neighborhood the weekend of the 22nd to the 25th. I'll be in Carrolton. Is that anywhere near you? Might we talk on the phone? Well, back to the salt mines! Peace, Peg 1/1/03 205/17?/165 5'8" I made an early mor |

| Hi girls. I've been lurking more than posting lately. Got approval to stop using the crutch last Friday (ankle is fine now - just have to be careful not to twist it for a few more weeks - screw holes may make it a little weaker than it should be) Then Sunday, back jaw started hurting. Sunday night was a toothache that brought tears to my eyes. Just laid there counting the hours until I could call a dentist. Monday morning - emergency root canal. Still dealing with some pain from that, caught a cold in my throat and my front teeth hurt - not sure if it is from root canal or cold. Meanwhile, haven't managed to get to gym since my surgery nearly a month ago - and antsy to get back - will do so this week, if only for the water aerobics. Friday was the official announcement day of my own business. I was an independent contractor, but had a mentor who was my 'front guy'. it was his business name, he handled the billing, contracts, etc. As of Friday, I am on my own. Picked out a name for my business - BrightLight Solutions - registered it with the state and got a federal EIN number. We have about 15 clients, and they will all just switch over to my business now - it is just a little more scary, and lots to do (letterhead, business cards) arranging a partnering relationship with the software company that I support. So, lots to do, lots of stress. Weight has stayed the same through all this (186-188) - and I've done my fair share of treating myself (worst is a strawberry shake once a week). Going to Las Vegas the end of this month for a users group convention (glad we are getting all this business stuff settled before then). This is a group that includes my clients, and a WHOLE LOT of potential ones - usually a couple hundred of the group are using my specific software package (I do mfg. consulting and custom programming). Oh, yeah, we are also remodeling the house. Just got new ceramic tile installed in the kitchen (and just a half hour ago my DH dropped a bottle of davinci syrup onto it and we got a friggin chip already. right in front of the stove. Carpet for the Living room and family room was ordered, just waiting for them to call to schedule an installation. Meanwhile, refrigerator is still in the living room - we want to get the kitchen painted before putting it back. so, that should just about catch you up and explain why I haven't been on much lately. Once I get back to gym, I'll feel better about things.

| Thanks BC. Well, I went to work Friday and managed to get one test written. Although, a second one is done as well, since a colleague wrote it out and we are using the same test for our two classes. So, really only two more to go. Now, I have to type that one test for tomorrow. That's all I got done on Friday. A few of us went to lunch that afternoon and we were gone for two hours. Not by our choice though, we were hoping to be back at work around 1, didn't get back until almost 2. The service was horrible. The woman took forever to bring us our drinks. We got there at 12:20, didn't place our order until 12:30 or so; our food didn't come until 1:15. Now, we didn't order anything big - white chilli (already fixed, i'm sure), salad, and hamburger. It shouldn't have taken that long. And our waitress completely ignored us. A couple that came in after us (a long time after us), got their food first. We probably should have left. Went shopping yesterday. I was wanting to find some dress clothes, esp pants or skirts, and all I ended up with was some shirts. I did buy a shirt that I had already bought earlier this summer, but this time two sizes smaller. I need to return the other one now. Then I came home and fell alseep on the couch. I was going to get up and do some work - like grade those homeworks. Sounds like a fun Saturday night, but I ended up going out with some friends. So, today is work day for me. I've already got most of the papers graded, then I need to type tests. Still at 140 this morning! It is such a great feeling to finally see that number after being at 143 for over a year. Okay actually during the last year, I have been as low as 141 and as high as 148, but I always came back to that 143. Hope everyone has had a great weekend. And here's to a great week!! If I make it through this week, then the next is my vacation.

| 139.5 today - over did it a bit at our dinner party last night. It was a low carb friendly meal. Even the woman who brought dessert used low carb ice cream on her apple crisp (well, apple crisp isn't low carb, but at least it has some real nutrition from the apples and oats, LOL). I drank quite a bit of Arial non-alcoholic champagne, which isn't sweet, but I doubt it's low carb. Then - after everyone left - I rediscovered my carboholic side with the left over baggette and a dish of softened butter. Peg, your grandson broke his wrist, too? I think there's something going around - some misalignment of the planets or some such. As for my foot, the doctor speculated that the pain was due to arthritis in the metatarsal area. But, it doesn't seem to me that arthritis would have such a sudden onset. I haven't heard back yet about the x-ray. You are right, dancing is a very big deal to us. Besides being a completely joyful activity, so much of our social life and many of our friends come from the dance community. Not being able to fully participate is a big blow. BC - I neglected to mention earlier that I think your new bracelets are just smashing! Are those pieces going into your show? I think your sponsor will be very pleased. MK - good luck with your business venture! I'm excited for you and your prospects. PK - I bet it takes a lot of creativity to make up a test that is both fair, interesting, and challenging at the same time. Doing 4 at once seems like a lot to handle, but sounds a little more interesting than grading papers. Judy - now that they've had the weekend to reflect on their grades, I hope your students settle down to work. Maybe it's just taking them a while to readjust to studying and homework after the long summer break. (not a good excuse, I know)

| Mary Kay, sounds like you have a lot going on right now, for sure. Lots of excitement but plenty of stress, too. Hang in there. If your weight is staying steady, I'd say you are doing pretty darn great. Elyssa, you always do great with tests and whatnot, even at the last minute, so enjoy your sleep when you can. Oh, it's been a while since I got really awful service at a restaurant (bad service, yes; awful, no). But it's very frustrating. Very, very cool about buying the same skirt two sizes smaller TB, that little carboholic critter is alive and well in most of us methinks. Waiting down in the mammalian brain stem for a weak moment. I do hear your frustration about not being able to enjoy your dancing/social activities. I would just say beware of depression now, if you are inclined that way. When I first hurt my wrist, there were do many things I couldn't do, which was frustrating, but I didn't realize I was also very slowly sinking, too. It's difficult when joyful activities are taken away, even for a while. Oh and thank you about the bracelets. Yes, those will probably go to the gallery, although I really love those two in particular and perhaps will keep them for samples, too. I can't wear them, unfortunately, or I'd definitely keep them! Peg, I know this is a work day for you. Hope all goes well and that you are doing okeydokey. We've been working on the new wood floor, which is going slowly, but pretty well. It will certainly be an improvement over 15 year old carpet, anyway. I've been a little bummed though since Friday. My friend Kim, who has my jewelry at her shop, had to tell me that someone had stolen one of the bracelets. She was very upset, but it certainly isn't her fault. And when we did a quick inventory, a pair of earrings was missing, too. That really hurts--yes it's money out of my pocket, but it's time and effort, and just the idea hurts. Not that I didn't think it would ever happen, but sheesh. I suppose now I'll have to buy some kind of locking display, but that's not what I wanted to spend money on, ya know.

| ~~~~~~~Caution, Caution -- Novel Length Post~~~~~~~ ![]() Hi all, sorry to be MIA for days, but I've been way way busy. DS came in this weekend. His truck was broken into last week, and he could get all the repairs done here in one day where it would take at least three in Dallas. And, the cost is certainly better. I swear I do not know what it is about my kids and their cars. Neither drives anything special. DS has a 98 Dodge truck and DD has a 99 Ford Escort. Those are hardly the type you would think people would waste much time on. But, we are now at three break ins in the last 12 months. WE are not even claiming on insurance anymore, it rates us up so high. So, back to the story...... every time someone shows up, I get to cook. Now, I don't mean just a meal here or there, I mean "Meals on Wheels" for return to Dallas to feed DS, DD, and my Dad. It was an all day project on Saturday, plus what I made for meals. None of the bounty is left here. It was all divided among the "needy". BC, I love the bracelets. I hope they find the creep that stole the ones at the store. One thing about it, as one of a kind pieces, it may make them easier to track. Be sure to keep photo records of all your pieces. It's a bummer that you have to buy a case now. What happened to honesty? --- Humm, read the paragraph above...... Looks to me like the same low life's are everywhere. TLB, I'd take your 139.5 today and be happy about it. After cooking all weekend, I was on the bad side of 140 again. That goal of getting to 135 by Halloween has about as much likelihood as me catching a ghost. I have really had to talk to myself to keep the carb monster from lashing out. I know he's lurking. I need to beat him back. I hope your foot is better soon. Can they give you a cortisone shot in it to help some? Elyssa, Today was one of those days that I was thrilled to be giving a test. I didn't have to talk to them and they didn't have to listen to me. I have one class that is definitely a trial. Thank heavens I only have them for one semester and then trade with the Government teacher. I hope you finished your tests and had good results. MK, Glad to hear that you are finally starting to get back "on your feet". I know you are ready to workout again. Be careful! I have worried since you told us about your pins that the ones that DH has might loosen some day. His ankle was a total reconstruction. I would hate to go through that again. He was in a cast for over 4 months. Congratulations on the new business. What do you do? Remodeling on top of all this...... you're a glutton for punishment aren't you? Peg, I think the phrase "If I rest I rust" probably applies to both of us. On top of all the other things happening this week, I am trying to prepare for 150 kids to be at my school Saturday for a practice meet for Academic Decathlon. I am really glad that Monday is a holiday! It's great to hear that you are coming to Texas to see your daughter and grand baby. Carrollton is a nice place. DD actually lives in the Carrollton school district even though she has a Dallas address. She drives through Carrollton everyday on her way to work in Lewisville. It's all one big continuos city. You never know where one ends and the next one begins. We are about 150 miles east of the "Metroplex". In Texas driving time, it's about 2.5 to 3 hours depending on the traffic. Do you still have my email address? Let me know what your plans are, and maybe we can work out something. |

| Judy, I can sure understand why you've been MIA. Wow, you've had your hands full. Yeah, boy, I'm I little discouraged with people myself right now, but I know I would be if my car had been broken into. That's really rotten, Judy. For anyone, but especially for kids who are probably just making it anyway--not to mention the parents who have to pick up the slack, eh? You sounds like you are in the same mood I am--which is not terribly fond of most of the human race right now. One of my friends was trying to make me feel better about the stolen bracelet by telling me that what goes around comes around--they'll get their just rewards and all that. But what I kept thing was "if what goes around comes around, what the heck did I do!" LOL! So anyway, I'm imagining you, mad as a hen, taking out your frustrations by slinging a large spatula and iron skillet all weekend. At least something good (and tasty) comes out of it that can benefit your kids and Dad. You'll get to your goal, Judy. Maybe not quite for Halloween, but hey, there's a ghost of chance! I did think of you and Peg possibly saying howdy. DH mentioned his company has some job openings in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. When he gets just too disgusted at work, we do a little daydreaming. Well, speaking of teaching, my friend's surgery is tomorrow and I'll check on her Wednesday and start teaching her classes next week. But I won't offer to trade places, Judy or Elyssa. I don't have to give tests or put up with adolescents, LOL!

| Hi Guys! Tuesday and my first day of work this week. I've officially gained seven pounds since last week! I'm pretty disgusted with myself. I havent really cheated all that much, but I also started with absolutely nothing in my stomach or anywhere "else" in my body. I'm talking about Wednesday. I just seem to be putting in my mouth whatever occurs to me or comes around. This mornings' staff meeting someone brought a big bag of M&M's. I don't even like them!! But, of course, after three times around the circle, I took some. There's more, but I'll spare you the details. I'm excited that I may even get to talk to you Judy. I'll email you. Sounds as if you are just keeping your head above water! BC: Don't EVEN believe that old saw about "what goes around, comes around." It's a grace robbing, universe denying, negative saying that implies a predestination that isn't believed by most of the world today. I think that people say it the same way that people say "How are you?" when they mean, 'Don't tell me how you are." I'm sorry that your bracelets were stolen too. Whoever did it was a real pain in the a** and was obviously never taught that bad behavior is not the way to get along in the world. That's my "theological" Judy: I'm so sorry for your DS too. See above! Teelbee, I hope that you are beginning to feel better. Thanks for your presence and your advice. I really appreciate. Yesterday my tummy calmed down for the first time since last week. I don't know what had set it off, but I'm glad its calmed down. I'm not in pain today and not yesterday either. Yay! MK: I hope your feeling better too. I keep thinking about your "need" to get back to exercise. I quit excersizing last year and have not been able to push myself to get back to it. Peace, Peg |

| 138.5 this morning - I had to drive to Carmel yesterday for a meeting and missed eating a real lunch. I had a cappucino breve, which was more like a latte, actually. So, that packed a wallop o' calories, I'm sure. Today, I had to take one of the cats to the vet at lunch time, but I managed to eat a 3-minute chocolate cake first, so I didn't starve. I should double up on the veggies tonight, I think. Poor kitty had to stay at the vet hospital all afternoon waiting for an ultrasound. He has a re-occurance of his bladder infection (imagine - me and my cat have the same problem!). So, now I have to give him an anti-inflammatory, an antibiotic, and sub-cutaneous fluids daily for 10 days. Fortunately, he is a very mellow, sweet kitty, so that makes it much easier. My back is still painful, but much less so today. I take that as a very good sign. I'll write more later. I know sitting in this chair is one of the back pain aggravaters; and I'm a bit short of time and energy at the minute. But I did want to check in, at least briefly.
