Ok, now back on the lighter side. So far, I have held my own for the holiday season. But, I'm afraid that it may go downhill fast. The one thing in my favor is that we will have a very limited number of days of guests this year. But, I still have requests for sausage balls and chex mix and cookies............ and then there's that egg nog. I seriously went to two groceries to see if they have some for diabetics (sugar free). Nope, it doesn't exist. I can see it now----about a week of eating with general abandon and months of getting back under control. What is it that they say?--- "A minute on the lips and months on the hips." |

| Judy, why don't you make some homemade eggnog? It's not terribly hard to make. I think you could use Splenda instead of sugar. Here's a very luscious eggnog adapted from the Joy of Cooking recipe. I used to make it every year, as my neighbor was very fond of it. I also made a non-alcoholic version using this recipe. Beat 12 egg yolks until they turn light yellow (save the whites for later). Gradually add 1 box (pound) of powdered sugar. Here's where you'd subsitute Splenda to taste. If needed, you could thicken the mixture with a bit of Thicken/Thin Not Sugar - but I doubt that's necessary. Very slowly, while beating constantly, add 2 cups of liquor (dark rum or brandy) Let it stand covered for 1 hour to dispel the eggy taste Add, while beating constantly, 2 more cups of liquor and 2 quarts of heavy cream. Cover loosely and refrigerate for 3 hours. In another bowl, beat 12 egg whites until stiff. Slowly fold the egg whites into the other eggnog ingredients. Serve with a dash of cinnamon (I don't like nutmeg, but that's more traditional). JOC also has a recipe for cooked eggnog, but I've never tried it. Actually, for a while, I coddled the eggs first thinking that made the safer. But, later, I quit doing that. I figured no one ever got sick before, and coddling wasted a lot of the egg white. Plus, I'm not sure coddling an egg gets it hot enough to make a difference anyway.

| TB: That recipe sounds delicious!! I have to admit that when I went to get my holiday wine, I bought the eggnog that was displayed on the counter. It just looked so good. Neither my DH or I drink very much and very seldom drink hard liquor ~ but this egg nog ish very, very gud! Judy: Thanks for the follow up. Hard stuff, huh? (not the eggnog!) My eating continues to be totally out of control. Party last night. The only thing I restrained was my eating and drinking past 8:00 pm. Last week when I tried to keep up with people I ended up being up untilafter midnight because my body was working so hard to metabolize the sugar. Sheesh! It's one thing when you eat because of the food, another entirely when you eat and then it bites you in the ***. Next is Christmas Eve. We're alone for Christmas and then DD, DSIL, and Joshua come to visit for a week! I'm going crazy buying toys! Peace, Peg

| Teel, your recipe sounds much like the one my grandmother used to make. And, it makes enough for the entire block. As a child I remember my dad's aunts, uncles and cousins coming by our house for the egg nog. At the time, I couldn't believe believe people really liked that stuff. I also find it interesting that your recipe calls for brandy or rum. We have always used bourbon. My granddad used to make his annual trip to the liquor store (about 60 miles round trip) just before Christmas every year. I think he bought some really rot gut stuff called Four Roses to go in the egg nog and to use for toddies for the rest of the winter. I'm a little more discriminating.......... I buy good bourbon. The "recipe" I use makes a blender full at a time. I mix equal parts commercial mix and french vanilla ice cream then blend in the bourbon, and of course top with nutmeg. Yummy! By the way, my neighbor across the street makes the hot kind of nog and uses brandy in hers. It's different......... so at least once during the holidays, we have it cold at our house and then on another night, hot at theirs. I had never even heard of hot egg nog until they invited us for some several years back. Looks like the weird eating has started for me, too. As always, it's not so much what I'm eating as how much I'm eating. I'm going to the store in a while to get the ingredients to make chex mix and also some spiced tea. The tea mix will definitely be LC. I'm the only one that will drink it, so no problem there. Grrrr, DD just called. She went to visit college friends this weekend and saw her old boyfriend. She's stopping by to see him right now on her way here. I really hope she has the foresight to stay away from him and not get back together. He uses her. And of course, he wants to get back together.............. why not, she has good sense and a good job and a stable bank account. I can't say any of those things about him. |

| Dec 19.......... didn't make it to Christmas Eve for the egg nog. DNeighbor across the street made the hot stuff tonight. Two mugs with two shots (each) of brandy later, it looks like tomorrow I better be very very good. Santa will have me on the bad list. |

| Yesterday was a pretty good day for eating, except for the egg nog. I am afraid to weigh. Last time I did (a couple of days ago) I weighed 179. I want to get down a little before I weigh. I can't face it if I've gone out of the 170's. I have to confess that I have a little of the "Oh ****, I've blown it now I might as well eat everything in sight!" (Of course, I am there right now!) Today I'm alone with wonderful fluffy snow falling outside my windows. A white Christmas! Yay! Finishing up a few last minute wrapping projects, and a craft project that I promised a friend. Peace, Peg

This morning I went to Curves to work out. It was also my weigh and measure day, so I sucked it up and did the deed. After last night's nog I knew I had to have some accountability before the week got really out of hand. Snacking and nibbling and nog showed up as only a one pound gain over the last month. Fully dressed and in tennis shoes, I weigh 145. I would really like to see that be under 140. I think that will be my new year's resolution. Surely I can do that............... I'm off to piddle around in the kitchen. I made some really good LC spiced tea mix this morning. This afternoon's contribution won't be LC, but it will make the kids happy. It's really nice to be out of school for the whole week. And, with no one here until Thursday night, I can take it easy. I'm even thinking about sewing some this afternoon --- let me qualify that--- I'm even things about attacking all the repairs and alterations that my family have piled onto the sewing machine. At this point in my life, I don't even mind doing them. It's generally something that can be started and finished in a short period of time. That "something finished" feeling of accomplishment is really what I'm after right now more than a start to finish project. Enjoy the week everyone :bear: . |

| Peg.......... why don't you think about joining a CURVES in your area. The workouts are only 30 minutes 3x per week. You can go at anytime that suits your schedule and more often than 3Xs if you want. It's a "no spandex" type atmosphere. And, it would help you ease back into exercising. On top of that, there's that weigh and measure accountability thing! It's also relatively cheap ($30.00 per month) Overall I consider it money well spent. |

| Yeah, Judy. I've thought about it. We have a gym here at the condo that is a whole lot less intimidating. I've still got my membership with the Y, which I should cancel. Remember, a year ago or so I was swimming really regularly? After the first of the year I have decided to begin exercising again. I know I need it. Thanks, Judy. Coming from SoCA, I remember many Christmases spent in shorts! Also remember my kids wearing shorts and coats! Right now the temp is up to a balmy 10 degrees! Brrr. Peg

| Looks like we have some colder weather on the way. It's warm but cloudy and gray outside. If it's going to be warm, I wish it would be sunny. If you don't hear from me tomorrow, it may be because I can't get my hands to move. I just finished making 4 recipes of sausage balls. That one for DH, one for DD, one for DS and fiance, and one for DDad. And just in case you have forgotten that little recipe, when multiplied by four takes........4 lbs of cheese, 4 pounds of sausage, and 14 cups of bisquick and a whole afternoon in the kitchen. |

| Jeepers Judy! Those must be some wonderful meatballs! I have not been steadfast with the low carb - I'm good for about 5 hours, then I lose sight of my resolution. I am falling back into a pattern where I equate relaxation with food. Way overdoing LC treats and even going beyond that on occasion. At this point, I am back over 140 and showing every ounce! My tummy is bulging, along with my thighs. I hope it's mostly water weight, but it's very showy water weight. It's not that I've said yes to every temptation, but I'm not very pleased about where I'm at right now.

| Click here to see to see the HGTV Dream Home. It's about 40 miles from where I live. I plan to enter the contest, and then when I win, we can all have a great time at my new home. Actually, the closest that I may come to winning is to pay the $15 ticket to tour the place. Oh well, here's to wishing! |
