I have been eating a high grain bread for months now and am doing fine. I sure did watch out for any signs of triggered cravings but I didn't experience any. If you are concerned Judy it would be best to stay away because its not worth the risk.

BC, I would love to have a portion of sweet potato from time to time. I'll try it with a meat and lc veggie meal. Plums and tangerines sound great too. I was never much of a fruit eater but now I enjoy it. I know what you mean about "the feeling". When I start journalling for maintenance I will add a brief description about just that to see which foods I can handle over others.

Montana, butternut squash is just the squash I had on my mind. I included cantelope from the start, but strictly in moderation. Do you find that you suffer from "hangovers" even if you have just 1 drink? I am fine if I have a mich ultra but I made a margarita from Bob's lc mix and suffered the entire next day. I used to drink like a fish. Maybe I just can't handle the citrus in the mix. My triglycerides were 48 when I had them checked and I eat whole grain regularly. Funny how we're all a bit different.

Rave, Thanks for your support. I know exactly how you feel. You are doing great! Time flies and as long as you stay the course, you will be here in no time. I love this web site because the support is outstanding, on every level.

Veterans, no word on oatmeal. Yes, or no? How about oranges?

Red, oatmeal is actually recommended on my WOE twice a week. Not the quick cooking kind, but the steel cut or Irish kind, because of the GLA content. Honestly, I don't generally take advantage of the opportunity, because I rarely think that far ahead in the morning. Since you seem to tolerate some grains, I think it'd be worth a trial run. However, I'd have some extra protein with it to slow down the insulin hit, just in case.

Oranges--depends on the size. I never eat fruit without some protein to moderate it. Most smaller oranges I'd feel comfortable having if I were going to also have several ounces of protein and not too much other carb. Or half a large orange under the same circumstances. That's really the only way I can have higher GI fruit without causing myself problems, but you might be fine with fruit alone.

Red,
I have no comments on the oatmeal. However if you want an orange, try to make sure it really is the whole fruit, not just the juice. That's almost like downing straight sugar. I've had some mandarian oranges in salad with no adverse effects.

I just noticed while I was rereading this thread
that most of you replying are near 5 foot tall. ROFL. I feel like a giant over here.
AND yes the view is pretty good up here.
