| My husband started with me this past Tuesday. It will be one week for us in the morning. He weighed himself yesterday and already he's lost 9 pounds. On the one hand, I say to myself (and him) that is great! I'm so glad he's getting more healthy and with this good of a return he'll be more likely to stick with it. On the other hand (the embaressing side) I'm jealous that he's lost so much. I know I'll never lose that much in a week (not even at my heaviest when I first started which was almost where he started) I know I'm a horrible person for even being jealous in the first place. I really am happy for him, but I still have that bit of me that's not happy with ME for not being able to keep up with him. Okay, let me have it. | Michelle, I'm not going to *let you have it* because you have every right to feel that way! And BOY DO I SYMPATHIZE!!! You know, when my dh decided to follow this woe to be supportive of me, I thought I was the luckiest girl in the world. I mean, at the *MOST*, he only needed to lose about 20 pounds... Well, when his first weigh-in came around and he had already lost 7 of that 20, I was furious! It's not fair. It just isn't. I don't know WHY they lose faster, but they do -- even when they don't have as much to lose! Not only that, but they can get away with a lot more: my dh ate the Atkins bars and the LC chocolates REGULARLY and never stalled or gained! So, yes, you should be happy for him and you should continue to encourage him (keep your thoughts to yourself), but don't feel guilty about what you're feeling. It's a fact... and not a very fair one. May I suggest that y'all not weigh together or keep up with each other's loss? Just be *generally supportive*. If you notice his pants are getting looser, compliment him and vice versa. But don't turn this into a competition or nobody wins. I wish you the best, Summer www.herstorygirl.com |

| Oh Michelle, don't worry so much about being human. It's ok to feel whatever it is you feel. No, it's not fair, and we'll just have to add his weight loss to the list of unfair things in our lives......mine includes natural blondes, people who live in nice climates, women with non-jiggly thighs and perky butts, those with well-behaved pets and/or children, lottery winners, good cooks, and those who always know the perfect thing to say..... Whew, now I feel better.... BC 172/108/108 Zone since 4/98 |

| I think men have the advantage since they generally have more muscle mass then women and therefore their metabolism is much faster! Correct me if I am wrong but thats the way I see it! I know for me my muscle mass must have been just about non existant....and I am working to correct that with exercise! To get to the rainbow you must first pass through the rain! |

| My DH started 3 months after me and he is almost at the same weight loss. But aren't we the lucky one's who have such supportive DH's that they are willing to join us? (of course after seeing how well we are doing and eating all that GOOD food). |

| Thanks guys. I do know enough to keep that kind of stuff to myself, LOL! That's why you all get to here it Oh and Summer, he isn't being good like I am. He eats a sandwich just about everyday. It isn't even low carb bread (lower 8grams per slice) He eats all the salad dressing he wants, almost never drinks water. Infact, he drinks all diet SODA!! On top of all that he COMPLAINS about how hard his diet is!!! LOL! Okay, I'll stop now (it only gets worse) I know one of these days he'll have to start trimming some of the extra's off his diet. I'll get my revenge then. (evil grin) Really, I am happy that he's able to stick with this and do so well. It hasn't turned competitive, I just don't want him to weigh less then I do. | Unfair is what it is!! DH joined me on this WOE because it made 'good sense' from a health perspective. His weight had been at a healthy level for years and hadn't varied more than 10 pounds in either direction. He was being supportive of what I needed for my health as well (diabetic, high bp, elevated cholesterol, etc...) Anyhow, I've lost about 15 pounds since April 1 and he's lost about the same... not that he needed to from a purely slimming standpoint, but he's looking pretty dog-gone FINE<G>. Thing is, I'm still at least that far from my final goal and he's reached his. I intend to reap the benefits of this WOE for many years to come... and with this wonderful man by my side, we'll be enjoying all the bonuses together. We are not spring chickens so the benefits will hopefully mean more years together. Ginger Life is NOT a dress rehearsal. 159/145.5/139 |
