| Well, it looks like it's been an INTERESTING weekend for many of us.... Alida-- It does sound like the child's family was looking for a law suit. Surely though they were thinking to take advantage of an accident and a big company. I hope that they didn't give the kid the razor on purpose. How perverted has the world become that we would even think such things??? Kim -- How's moon doing? Isn't the doctor's appointment this week? Teel -- Congratulations on the quick sell and quick purchase of homes. It makes my head spin to realize how quickly you turned things around. DH does not handle change well -- and that's an understatement. I'm not sure he could have made it through your quick turn over without stroking out. Good luck finding a home for your letters. Have you contacted a local historical museum? There might be one near by that would appreciate your things. Barb-- I need some of your maintenance plan Congratulations.Shelly -- Glad you are feeling better. Your appliqu?s are great. I used to do quite a bit of that kind of work when my daughter was little. For myself, I have done it on Christmas shirts, etc. I have never gotten into making things for sale. I mainly sew as a labor of love -- for DD, somebody special or myself. I'm trying to decide if I want to make myself somthing for DS's wedding or just hope to find the perfect thing in a store. I looked here yesterday. If the perfect thing is out there, it's not in this town. Looks like I'll have to do some shopping in Tyler at the very least. Bren -- Dad's home, huh? Good luck with that. There will be stars in your crown in heaven for taking care of him. I swear I may have to divorce DH before this wedding thing is over. He's driving me crazy. I have just spent the afternoon working on the guest list for a shower and the wedding. The shower guests will all be getting invitations to the wedding. Yeah, I know they won't go, but instead of sending out announcement after it is over, fDIL wants to just send invitations. DH says he doesn't want anything to do with it, and won't even look at the list. He says it's all a big dun for gifts. Well, I guess in actuality it is. But why should DS and fDIL be denied the opportunity to have showers and parties because they decided to get married somewhere else? Or, should they? The people invited to the shower are primarily people that I work with -- some as long as 30 years. I have bought baby gifts and wedding gifts and who knows what else for them. Is turn about not fair play? Are customs different where you live? Am I missing the boat? |

| Back from a nice jog in the sunshine. More ambitious people were working in their gardens, providing the beautiful scenery for my excursion. Teelbee, about the letters...DH's best suggestion was to go online. You might start with something as high up as the Smithsonian. Or put in "World War Two Museums" or something like that, and lodge some inquiries. Of course, finding a location for the specific unit might be a good idea, too. Judy, I don't think it's wrong to send invitations to people who can't possibly come to the wedding. Folks do it all the time, don't they? In fact, hardly anybody lives in their city of origin anymore, so most likely either the bride or the groom will be sending invitations far and wide. And, yes, people should be happy to reciprocate decades of gift-giving! A relative of mine, however, was flummoxed when her daughter's fiance, from Scotland, got 41 "Yes" responses from as far away as Australia. She wasn't counting on accommodating that many guests! So...if you invite them to Jackson Hole, keep in mind that they might actually show up! This morning, at church, a man said, "I saw your picture on the web." I didn't recognize him right away, and no wonder. Turns out he's a big loser--over 100 lbs--on low carb, and finally found his way to LCE. I'll be looking around for his posts now. Everybody have a good week. |

| Just doing a quickie *fly-by* here. When is Peg going to return? I've missed her bunches this week, as everyone has, I bet. Judy...no you are NOT missing the boat. You are on board and full throtle. I say go with your plan for the shower And have fun on your shopping trip to Tyler. Bren...my hat is off to you, girl! We moved my mom in with us when her health started to decline. Oh, my! She was not happy with anything I said, did, or otherwise had anything to do with. It's a long story, and I won't go into it, but I know first hand, even as much as we love our parents, or feel obligated to care for them, they can make things difficult, to say the least. Alida, did you make your Aunt Ruth's cake today? That recipe sounds sooo good, but I just can't afford to take a chance on it right yet. I know it's one of those things I could easily lose control on, and end up eating 3/4 of the whole cake! Oye! I'm finally starting to make some head way with the scales Well, I'm going to make a cup of GT and settle in for some TV. Have a good week everyone ![]() Shelley

| The old rule of etiquette usually meant that anyone invited to a shower was invited to the wedding. Destination weddings are changing that, but it may depend on how familiar people in your area are with the idea of destination weddings and may or may not choose to be offended either way you go! This isn't a situation for which current etiquette has that many pat answers. What I see here in my area with destination weddings is generally a party after the wedding, a ~share our joy~ kind of thing, often hosted by the couple and planned with a bit more leisure. If there are pre-parties, they are most often more informal than the usual shower, with no gift expected (but LOL, none turned down, either). Good luck on this one! Barb, I had the same "maintenance" experience about a year in. I don't tend to weigh frequently, and found myself one day at 102. It was quite a surprise. Obviously, I haven't been that surprised in a while, LOL! Judy, I can't pull up that link for some reason. Will try again later. Guys, sorry to complain. I try not to get too stressed out about Dad, but I admit to times when I'd like to run away from home! I really don't take care of him as much as try to keep him out of trouble of his own creation

| Judy, LOL, I flunked third grade, too! I refuse to believe 3rd graders could pass that test in the amount of time they give you! Shelley, yes I made that cake again. It is truly the best cake I ever had. I also made the Premium Vanilla Ice Cream recipe that was on our forum. Delicious! I have to give all LC treats a rest for awhile. Yesterday = 126. Today = 129. I think my body doesn't like the Polydextrose. You may be wise to steer clear of the cake!! Or else make it when you know you will only have one piece . . . . Kids were to be here at 5. At 5:15 I called. They forgot! Stepson Mark was still at a church function. Daughter-in-law was running ragged with trying to get granddaughter ready for camp and her own business trip to Atlanta. Son Mark did make it over later. Oh well. At least the house was clean and we had a wonderful dinner . . . and we were able to watch most of Survivor! As for the wedding/shower . . . years ago, the hostess of the shower was to be a friend or family member other than the mother, is that correct? My wedding knowledge is a little rusty. I think these days a lot has changed. But I agree with you. Treat the invitation list as if the wedding were in town. You may have more guests than you think at the wedding! LOL about your husband. I think sometimes men just don't "get it." Very busy week ahead. Wishes for a great day to everyone!

| The weekend seemed a somewhat strange one. Friday my DH got home early. He decided to get a new cell phone. Saturday, We drove out to see the progress on the new house. They had filled in the dirt around the foundation and filled in with stones the parts that need to have a concrete slab poured. We also walked around an outlet mall and did some other shopping. Sunday, we went lawnmower shopping. (that was a strange experience) We did some other shopping too. Both days were higher carb eating days. My weight went up about 6 pounds! Back to LC today.

| I was going to explain about our strange shopping experience. We went to large department store to look at the lawnmowers. While we were looking, we kept on getting pestered by salesmen. They even parked themselves on either side of the aisle to see who would get the sale. We decided to walk around the mall we were in. When we came back, my DH told me to pick one of the two lawnmowers we were discussing. I deliberately looked for a salesman that had not been pestering us. Just as he was starting to write up the sale, a woman asked for help in the paint department. The salesman went to help her, getting someone else to ring up my sale instead. So, this guy had maybe a $20-40 pain sale instead of a hefty lawnmower sale from me. I don't get it! TB, congrats on having your offer accepted. We're quiet on the home-selling front. Take care all....!

| Ilse, the only thing I can think of is that they are not on a commission/bonus set-up. Although the way the 2 salesmen were hounding you that would leave me to believe they are. Who knows? Maybe the guy who was writing you up was the paint guy??? Very strange! Argh! If he wasn't my husband I would fire him. Today's job was 10 panes NOT 8 as my husband had written up. Right there plain as day -- 5 transoms and 5 windows. 5+5 = 10 in my book. Thank goodness she was nice enough to pay me for the extra two . . . some customers are not!

| Just plain weird, Ilse..... And Alida, what is it with DH's these days anyway? Sorry to hear the the "kids" forgot about dinner. Bummer. Judy, yes when it comes right down to it, you are the future MIL and it's the better part of valor to go along with the bride's wishes at this point. And as I was thinking about it, many of the "destination wedding couples who have parties later" that I had in mind were also couples perhaps older than your son and fDIL, and many had already had a wedding or two under their belt--so not so big a deal to have showers and all the trimmings....it will all work out. And like I said before, what is it with DH's? I swear some of them are "men"opausal lately Shell, I think Peg should be back by the end of the week. Yup, always miss Peg!

| Nothing new here in middle America My DH has been kinda *testy* lately also. It does raise the question of what's going on in their brains, eh? I just chalk it up to *testosterone storms* It doesn't happen very often though, thank goodness.Need to jet...got to pack breakfast and lunch for work tomorrow. It's amazing how delaying eating my breakfast by about 30-45 minutes gets me *further down the road* without getting famished before lunch. It is a hassle to pack both meals, but that's what I have to do to make things work to my advantage; life goes on Shelley

I think Peg will be home Thursday. This is the last week of classes -- yeah right, they have already shut down, and there are interruptions all week anyway. Our exams start Monday. Graduation is a week from Friday. Summer school starts on Memorial Day. The way my school clock runs, I have not quite 4 weeks to go. It's funny, I've taught summer school for so long that I don't even get too fired up at this time of year. Everyone else is as ready to get out as the kids. The only thing I'm ready for is a new group. Must make out a test..................Like I said, 4 more weeks to go. |

| Judy, you don't get much of a break at all, do you! Shell, packing two meals is extra work, isn't it. But I'll bet it's so nice not to worry about being caught hungry and maybe not making a good choice about it. Lovely customer of mine called. I'm taking a bracelet I to her tomorrow and she also now wants me to bring some earrings suitable for a h.s. graduate.

| Brenda, pink and green is so "in" right now! I think you may have come up with a winner. LOL about not knowing what the HS crowd is wearing right now. All I can tell you is it's tight and usually revealing! Is anyone old enough to remember bobby sox and saddle shoes??? And when you would never wear pants to school? And nylons with girdles and garters? Shelley, I agree with you about breakfast timing. When I eat BF later, I do find I can control the munchies better. Judy, summer school starts on a holiday?? Can't even wait till Tuesday? That's a bummer. Do you get any time off during the summer? Is your school air-conditioned? I imagine most of them are now, especially in Texas. My film distributor's shipment from 3M was late, so he's sending my film overnight. Should arrive by 8AM. Have to rush and cut the film for today's job and be out the door by 9. Tricky but do-able. You would think 3M would know by now to ramp up production of their most popular films in time for the warmer weather. Happy Tuesday to all!
