| When I got home from school, my DH was home. He was doing yard stuff. We had a party for the TA's in the district. I ate some of everything. (it was my dinner) Most of it was high carb. Today, I bought a package of the EAS Carb Control Shakes in Chocolate. I am trying one now, but still think I want food. I am trying to dink it very slowly.

| It's impossible for me to get on the computer on the weekends...too much to do. It must have taken me 15 minutes just to read all the back posts. Aren't we the chatty bunch...love it! Voting day here today. Should be interesting. I've finally finished making up hanging baskets for the patio. Ended up with 11 of them. That's plenty now. Then I decided I didn't like the colour of the posts holding up a part roof. They were white but that was such a bright colour when the sun hit it. So, now I'm in the process of staining it all redwood colour. Really makes a difference. I don't think I'll ever be happy with my yard...it's just an ongoing process and that's the way I like it. All these make work projects sure do tire me out though. Our weather here is so dry right now!!! I'm having to water every night so my plants will live. I've already lost a clematis due to not enough water. And it's only May! Wonder what it's going to be like come August? Keeps me busy changing the sprinkler placement all evening. I'm a little worried about going away this long weekend. A night time shower would sure be nice. Brenda: Good for you for not leaving your babies at a kennel. I won't either. Quite a few years ago we took the kids to Disneyland and had to leave our collie at a kennel. When we got back ten days later we found out that she had been dragging her leash around the whole time we were gone. That was the last time we've ever boarded our pets. It was one of the reason we decided on a motorhome too. They can go everywhere with us and we find places to stay where we can plug in and they can have air conditioning if we leave them for a little while. I could probably count on one hand the amount of time they have spent alone. Better get some work done before the big boss man walks in...I always say that he's late cause he's watching cartoons. It's probably the truth. Have a good day all!

| Judy, 8-hour day classes? OMG, your lesson plans must be gargantuan! BC, what are ear threads? There you go - I'm the one that doesn't have a clue about au courant fashions! I have to get an HS graduation present and a college graduation present, and I'm stumped. Both for young women. The college graduate's mom suggested household tools, but I'm thinking that reflects mom's perception and not the young woman's interest. Donna, having to water pots at least once daily is what we usually have to deal with here from May to October. I think our west coast weather has flip-flopped. We are still having much cooler than normal temps, chance of rain, etc.

| Judy, your summer school schedule is intense, but nice that it's over in a couple of weeks. LOL, like induction, you can stand anything for two weeks, right? Donna, your yard sounds wonderful! Wow, I've never had that many hanging baskets, must be lovely. DH and I have thought about a small motorhome many times, but even to rent one for a test trip is exhorbitant around here. Sheesh, we could go on a cruise for what the rental/mileage fee/gas would be. Ilse, having those high carbs makes me want to eat carbs for days. Good luck! TB, ear threads or threaders or a couple of other names. Small charms or beads or ornaments on a chain which goes through the earhole? Supposedly they were popular in some areas in the 80's, at least DH brought me a pair from South Africa about that time. They seem to be becoming popular again. I'll take a pix of one of my pair. Not that I need much excuse!

| Oh, those "threads" are quite pretty! I've never seen anything like them. They look like they might be a little difficult to wear at first - I presume the straight portion dangles down behind the ear and the chain actually goes through the pierced channel? Of course, I've seen young women doing things with chains that look far more uncomfortable (the one that goes from the nose through the throat and out the mouth - ai! ai!).

| Hummm, I need to dig in the jewelry box. Mother had some 14K gold earrings that she bought in Denmark. They were made much like the ones you did, BC. I had forgotten about them. I think I'll dig them out and wear them ---maybe tomorrow |

| Yup, TB, the chain goes through the earhole. It's very fine <1mm and feels a little funny the first time you pull it through, but not uncomfortable at all. The straight portion and some of the chain dangles behind. I usually wear the "front" and "back" about equal in length. These are about 3-1/2" long, but some are longer. Judy, I'd adore seeing a picture of your Mother's earthreads. Sounds wonderful! Nice that everything comes around again, and I bet you'd enjoy wearing them. Oh, the customer loved her bangle (whew) and it fit (double whew-fit is tricky) and bought a pair of lovely pink earthreads for the graduate. Aaaaaaand I've finally got about 8 inches done on the front half of the sweater I'm trying to knit. Had to kick start myself into beginning it, but now that I have it's going ok so far--nothing really complicated yet, though.

Someone said something about lesson plans............. I just think of it like teaching Bible School ---- change gears every 20 minutes or so, and you've got it made. And to tell the truth, I just bought two movies off Ebay. I got some killer questions to go with them from my AP Economics email list. A few relavant movies thrown in are a good thing, especially the second week. I'm definitely looking for the ear threads in the morning. DH is already asleep so I can't go digging right now. The craziest thing happened today. He had his eyes checked and the doctor gave him contacts to try. He is just amazed that they don't hurt and that the process is not awful. Of course I have been telling him that for 30 years or so, but would he believe me??? BC, our Texas boys are playing the White Sox tonight. Looks cold in your town. Baseball and blankets should not go together. |

Oh TB, there are some velly, velly strange things done with chains these days, LOL! All I can think of is "how's that all gonna feel when you've got a head cold."

| Judy, that's good advice about changing gears every 20 minutes. I'm teaching a class in January--two four-hour sessions each week for three weeks. The Saturday morning sessions are all right, but the other one is from six to ten at night. We are ALL totally fagged out after working all day, and it just isn't polite for the teacher to fall asleep at the blackboard. I'm on the adjunct faculty of Baker University, teaching Etymology (this time) to graduate students. Wish I could find some fun movies on the subject of Etymology! (Actually, I do use movie clips with interesting language usage, including hip-hop, Shakespearean English, etc.) Gave blood yesterday. I'm O neg (universal donor) so they like to see me. That gives me an excuse to back off on the workout a bit today. And maybe tomorrow, too. ![]() We've got summer interns coming next week, and I'll be mentoring a bright high school graduate for the next few weeks. That will be fun. Luckily, she lives in town, so I won't have to worry about her after hours. Have a great day everybody. |

| OK, Barb, I'll be the first to admit I had to look up "Etymology!" I had a hunch, just wanted to be sure. Sounds absolutely fascinating! But 6 to 10 at night? After working a full day? Kudos to you! As for the mentoring -- if an intern is from out of town, do you have to entertain them in the evening, too? Whatever, that intern is lucky to have you! Judy, now it makes sense. And which movies did you buy for your class? For the life of me, I cannot think of a movie that would be relevant to an economics class. The only movie I remember from my high school days is "Nanook of the North!" Brenda, those ear threads are beautiful! I am so glad the bracelet fit your customer. That sure is a big "Whew!" Ilse, I love those shakes but generally stay away from them because I can never use them as a "meal replacement." I want FOOD! Plus, I can gulp them down in 10 seconds flat. Very hard to sip . . . . For the next few days (and this weekend, too) I am more of an overseer than a worker. I hired a crew for a large commercial job (Barb: One Main Plaza, first floor) that involves applying heavy security film them caulking the edges of the film and the window frame with some black goop that holds the film to the frame. This process will greatly retard any "smash and grab" attempts, in addition to low level bomb blasts. My hands will get a well-deserved rest! I am anxious to see how the professional caulker will do the job. While I have done it before for the city of KCMO, I am curious as to his way of doing it. I have a Nextel job coming up which will require some caulking, so I hope to learn a few new tricks. Till later!

| My WW weight was up as I expected. I've been bouncing up and down for weeks. After the meeting, however, I feel strangely hopeful that I can actually get back into this again. This morning, I got some stuff at the supermarket to help me on my way. I was aggravated with my dinner last night. I had gotten a gyros salad again. This time, it had much less meat than last week. I was good and waited for a while to see if the full stomach feeling would kick in. It did not, so I ended up eating a couple of ham and mustard sandwiches on LC bread after 9pm. My DH got the driveway black-topped and the back deck sealed. He asked me to put out Open House signs up after school today in anticipation of the weekend. I hope all is well with you. Brenda, the earring look great. I really like the AB crystals. They are so beautiful! I have a bunch of them packed away.

| Alida, you DO put in a physical day! Even supervising has to be strenuous. Good luck with the two big projects. Etymology = the history of words No, we don't have to entertain interns after hours. The company provides some activities, like baseball tickets, a picnic or two, a "sports" night (this year it's bowling I think). But I don't have to participate. The college interns have to find their own housing and transportation. Only one doesn't have a car this year, which, as you know, is very restrictive in KC. Guess he'll have to make friends fast! Ilse, I think I might be able to attend WW for free now. What's the "weight goal" for 5'3" at age 58 1/2? I'm a lifetime member from decades ago! Way Pre-computer. Do you think they'd still honor it? I could dig up my lapel pin. |

| Barb, Here is a link to a chart thatr will tell you the WW weight ranges. http://pub121.ezboard.com/fdottiswei...icID=133.topic According to that chart, a person over 45 at 5'3" should be no more than 141 and no less than 113. Hope that helps. As far as help, I don't know for sure. I guess I haven't decided what I can live with long term. I have books on Fat Flush, CAD/CALP, Rosedale Diet, South Beach, Somersizing, Mastering Leptin, Michael Thurmond's 6-week body makeover...... Also, one guy is convinced only three meals a day should be eaten, no snacks, for optimal fat burning. He says fat burning starts around 3 hour after the previous meal, so eating at that time if precisely the wrong thing to do. Other people say one can stoke up the metabolism by eating every 2 1/2-3 hours. (that takes a lot of time and energy if you don't pre-cook a bunch of food ahead of time). Then there is the whole LF/high fat thing. My mind gets to be in a jumble! I think that is mostly the problem. I do know if I try to do Atkins-type of LC, I eat quite a bit of saturated fats.
