| Donna, cute story about the dogs! So glad you were able to laugh! I had the same scenario with my dryer last year. I was drying tarps and towels for my work. It was night and raining out. Had to drape all that stuff over our cars in the garage. But I got a new washer and dryer out of the deal. It was time, they were both on their last legs. Barb, tearing out carpeting is nasty work! How lucky you had a willing volunteer. When we put our big house up for sale, the agent suggested pulling up the carpet in two rooms to expose the hardwood floors. One of the rooms was my step-son's. So we are pulling up his carpet and find he drilled a humongous hole into the floor for some stereo wiring. Had to hire a carpenter to fix and stain. Always something! That breakfast sounds wonderful. Today's Saturday and even though I have to go to the job site today, I'll go later which will give me time to have a leisurely breakfast today. I'll try it! After I left the job site yesterday, I went to a local store on the Plaza (Hall's, and yes, it's related to Hallmark) to buy something FUN. All my clothes are biege, black or navy! I found the Spanx TB was talking about and bought a pair. Hmm. A bit hard for me to get on with my wrist. But I think they will work for a special occasion. Barb, do you get a discount there, being an employee of Hallmark? That store is truly spectacular. An old friend from the days when I worked at Saks Fifth Avenue is now manager of Couture. We had a grand time trying on clothes! I did get a fun pair of pants in a lime green print (70% off) and a lime green linen blouse. Can't wait to wear the outfit! The pants were a size 6 and the blouse extra-small. But before I get all cocky over the sizes . . . both items ran large! Happy weekend everyone!

| I missed a whole page . . . and forgot to congratulate you Donna for 151.5! That's wonderful! Shelley, sometimes I think my life is dull and boring, too. You are a wise woman to sit back and observe! I do hope you will be able to work well with her. TB, disclosure documents can be rather intimidating, can't they? Thank goodness the latest glitch with the HOA has been solved. You do have your work cut out for you! Take a deep breath . . . .

| Trust me, I KNOW my life is dull and boring Alida and Shell, and having had it otherwise, I am quite content TB, I can almost palpably feel your stress. I hope the days at least will fly by until you can get moved in and "settled." Frustrating afternoon. Went to a local nursery and wandered in a daze for an hour. Too much stuff, too large a place, and none of it what I wanted. Then went to a giant supermarket nearby, and felt overwhelmed again. I must be getting old--am not enjoying these mega-spaces when I want only a couple of specific things.... Alida, your lime outfit sounds positively fun!

TB. There is something about signing day that does that to a person Hang in there...have a little glass of vino in the evening to take the edge off...heck that just might work for me too, dealing with this new boss and all...hummm Alida....WOOHOO for you! Lime green just screams wild and fun! I bet you look terrific in that color. I saw some little lime green strappy sandals at the mall last week that would probably *rock* with that outfit! I remember those *psychedelic* colors from the late 60's and early 70's well. I had a pair of lime green patent leather chunky heeled shoes that I thought was just out of this world; liked them so well, I got another pair just like them in *lemon rind* yellow. Also had big bangle bracelets that matched the shoe colors...ahhhhh the good ole days...well, we thought they were anyway...LOL. Donna, You must have a great sense of humor. Hope you have a super time this weekend; you definitely worked hard to get ready, and you deserve to unwind and relax! Bren...I wish I were wise! It only took me 20 of those 30 years in my profession to learn to look and listen before inserting a foot (or two) in my mouth. I am getting better at not forming first impressions about someone new, but sometimes, your first impression about that person happens to be right. I truly hope things will get better for our department, but for now the best we can hope for I think, is a slighty bumpy transition period. Like I said, time will tell.Well, i need to finish my grocery list...old mother Hubbard's cupboards are bare...LOL. I hope the strawberries will still be on sale tomorrow; I LOVE fresh sliced strawberries with a dollop of sweetened sour cream. Good night all! Shelley

| Oh my gosh, Teel, I'm sure you are nervous. I know I would be, too. Good luck on all transactions. Shelly and Bren --- some days I wish for calm and uneventful. This isn't my time of year for that, though. I feel schitzo the way things are up and down right now. Donna, congrats on the 151.5. New numbers are so gratifying. Everyone else.... ![]() Today was the big day for buying wedding clothes. DH and I both made purchases. He has a new suit being altered. I totally expected to find nothing --- I was surprised. I found a suit in Tyler. It's a pink jacket with black trim and a black skirt. I was ready to buy the fabric to make a suit --- which would have been half the price, but DH and DMIL convinced me to go with the perfectly fitted, already made suit. They said I didn't need the extra stress --- me? Stress?? no way................ The one thing that I am going to have to do is make sure I don't gain a pound (and preferable lose a couple) between now and the end of July. It's perfect now, and I sure don't want to ruin it. It's the most expensive garment that I have ever owned including my own wedding dress (my mom made it). The picture attached is in a different color than I purchased. Mine is "ice pink". From this picture you can't see the satin inserts in the gores of the crepe skits. I won't be wearing the black pin. I will be looking for a really pretty necklace to compliment the neck. I haven't decided whether to wear black hose or to do the bare leg look. But, I am so glad that the shoes can be black --- that will give me lots more to consider. What do you think.......... remember it's an evening outdoors wedding in the mountains. Oh!!! and we have decided to take a massive road trip instead of flying for this event. We will probably leave on Sunday before the wedding and get home sometime late the next week. I am so excited. We have never taken this type trip without kids. We are going to try to hit all the big spots in the Wyoming area -- maybe even go a little east and see Mount Rushmore on the way up and get Salt Lake city on the way home. I'm psyched! |

| I'M BAAAAAAACK!! It's Midnight. I've been home for about an hour; unpacking, etc. Read back a little bit on your posts. My, my, my....we have been busy, huh? I've got a beautiful tan. The time share was incredibly luxurious. My kids and grandkids were gorgeous and behaved. DH and I had rest. I'm bright eyed and bushy tailed - it's 8:00 pm in CA and that's the time I'm on. Starting my sermon right now. More later. Peg

| SSSsssss HOTTTTTTT! That suit looks even more fabulous than I'd imagined! Welcome back, Peg Shelley - new boss, eek! When I hear the words, "different management style", I hear trouble. Here's hoping your new leader turns out to be competent and fair-minded. DH and I were supposed to reorg the garage and workshop today. We need to bring stuff we are moving back into the house to make room in the garage to prepare for a moving sale. DH and I do not work harmoniously. He wandered and puttered and - instead of packing things, he opened boxes and scattered the contents ("sorting"; but then he leaves his half-finished piles all over and never finished). He kept going in to watch TV until I'd get up the nerve to go urge him back to task. He needs direction, but doesn't want to be told what to do. I couldn't cope with him, so I wandered off and started working in the yard. Finally, I suggested we just bag it and go out for an early dinner. Maybe tomorrow will be better. We went to Max's Opera Cafe, which has a better-than-average low carb selection. MOC features some wonderful sounding LC desserts, but they all are made with maltitol. I ordered a turkey pastrami sandwich, but I'm wondering if the cook accidently used regular bread instead of low carb bread. After we got back I felt so sleepy I fell asleep with my head in DH's lap. And, my legs feel "heavy" and tired. I think I'll just go to bed and try to read for a while.

| Oh Judy, the suit is beautiful! I'm with Kim on this. Do the bare leg or nude hose bit. Black hose would be too dark & heavy for summer/outdoors. I don't know about the rest of you, but I am not that comfortable wearing regular shoes without hose. My feet get too hot and sticky. Canvas is OK, but not leather. Back to suit -- even though $$, you can wear it all year! If you wear it during the winter months then I would opt for sheer black hose. Stunning! Brenda, I have often thought that one of the reasons we feel so overwhelmed is that we have too many choices. Food stores, nurseries, department stores, wherever, there is so much stuff it takes hours to make a decision! I have found my shoulders sagging at the thought of walking all the way to the back of a huge grocery store just to grab a quick diary item. But then I think, "walking is GOOD." Peg, welcome back! I am so glad your trip was fantastic . . . and restful! Everyone behaving is a definite bonus! Shelley, I remember those chunky shoes from the 60's & 70's! Along with the mini skirts! TB, sorry, but I had to chuckle at the story about your husband "helping." Mine is the same way. The several times we moved, I did ALL the sorting/packing and he became the designated schlepper. This system worked well for us. I remember running across several CARTONS of fishing lures. Since he really doesn't go on fishing trips anymore, I thought why move all of these? So his task was to sort through them. He did. But said he HAD to keep all of them "just in case." Sigh. Whatever. Anyone need fishing lures? Max's Opera Cafe sounds so familiar. Is it a chain? Could I have been there in San Francisco? I love opera, so if I see a restaurant with the word opera in it, I will probably go. As for your being tired, after the day you put in, no wonder you were tired! The job yesterday did run into a snag. The cauker and the film guy's assistant were to be be there at 9-10. I got there at 10:30. No caulker. No assistant. The film guy (the one I hired) was there but could not do much without the other two. They finally rolled in about 1. I guess they went to the casino the night before and overslept. So the caulker proceeds to caulk. Runs into a problem with the caulk. It's too hot! The office building had the air turned off and the glass was getting hot from the sun. Two windows had to be re-done because they looked terrible. What a mess! So we put the caulk on ice and decide on a smaller bead. I ended up staying until 5:30, waiting to OK a good window. So from 10:30 to 5:30 all I had to eat were two Atkin's AM Start bars which I always have in my purse. I caved in and did have one piece of pizza which the guys brought with them. I also must have gone through about 72 ounces of water. Because of the late start they did not finish yesterday. Now I have to go back in today. Hope to God the windows they did in the lobby area will pass my inspection. Always something.

| PPPEEEGGG!!!!! Welcome *home* Judy, the suit is hubba-hubba Alida, wow, what a day you had yesterday! And going back for more today? You need a DAY OFF for goodness sakes! Any chance today can be a *half* day? I'm already dreading Monday, and I've had 2 days off... TB, yep, the term *different management style* definitely conjures up a feeling of dread when it comes to a new boss I knew we were in for a big change the first staff meeting we had with her. She announced this is going to be her era at this hospital; we all just kind of sit there and really didn't know how to respond to that! So, I'm gonna *3 monkey it*...you know...hear no evil...speak no evil...see no evil...LOL. I do believe in giving folks the benefit of the doubt, so we'll see how things develop. It's not unbearable by any means. Everyone else ![]() Got to get moving...our temps are unseasonably HOT...we hit 98 yesterday; not quite so warm today, but still in the 90's are forecasted. So....I'm off to do my 3 miles! Have a good one! Shelley

| Judy, that' s a luscious, gorgeous suit, perfect for the occasion. You'll look absolutely fantastic in the ice pink version. Of course we want to see YOU in it, as well. Congrats on finding the perfect suite ANd in avoiding more stress. Well, this is going to be short, since my backspace key has stopped working. Never realized how many typos I corrected with the darn thing!!! LOL, using the arrow keys and delete is a real time waster. Of couse I suspect I need to type better in the first place. OK, gonna pop this keyboard and see what gives.........

| Hi Gang! Judy: A gorgeous suit!!! Get yourself some spanx! You will have hose feel, and bare leg and foot for those "strappy" high-heeled sandles. You are short so you can really go high with something really sexy! Or, wear really sheer nude hose. No black in the summer. Bren: I'd be lost without my "delete" key! On my new keyboard, the backspace key doesn't automatically delete. I have to use the "delete" key, one row down and over to the right one key. I can "backspace" to delete, but when I highlight, I have to use the other key. It is hard to remember to do that! Old dogs and new tricks.....I guess. Shelley: Thanks for the welcome back! a new boss, huh? That sounds ominous! How're you doin' on the weight? Still losing? Alida: I can only imagine how you felt about having to stay to supervise your workers. Before I left for vacation I hired a contractor (interviewed three. Called references on two) to install crown molding and 1/4 round molding in the hallway and living room. When I checked my email a few days ago, I discovered that he had been called out of town for his father's heart attack and while gone his finish carpenter skipped town. So he didn't do the job. I have already paid him for half the job. When we walked in last night at 11:00 pm, his tools were all over the place, the molding was on the floor and there was sawdust all over. He had been there for part of the week, and then just left. He says that he didn't want to come back into the condo when he didn't have a carpenter. So.............I have a really great table saw, an electric nailer, several drop cloths, several heavy duty extension cords, staging for hanging the molding, and two ladders. It may add up to what I paid him, but what am I going to do with it?? Seriously though, I wrote to him and told him I want it finished by next week. Would you keep his tools if you were me? We're having rain today and it is expected every day for the next five days! It is still under 60 degrees here! On the plus side, everything looks absolutely fabulous and overgrown! Amazing how coming from SoCa, everything looks so green here. We did make the decision while there to just move there summer of 2006. Where we will move seems a little bit of a question, but at least the question of when to move is settled. So....let me ask your advice on this one: We looked at a retirement community with which we have both had a lot of contact. It's in Redlands, where I raised my kids, and where Bob and I met and married. It is a "three tiered" retirement community. House - assisted living - nursing home. Once we buy in, we are in for life, if we choose. We could request a single family home that looks out on the street and mountains. It comes with amenities like housekeeper, one meal a day in the dining room, maintenance, free cable and phone, and other stuff I can't remember. Compared with the real estate market there, it is a real buy. The down side is that it is a retirement community. There are no children. We pay for one meal a day in the dining hall (but don't have to eat it). The youngest residents are in their late 60's. The average age is 78. I am 61 and Bob is 71. We looked at small single family homes too. They START at $400,000. While that is probably close to what we will get for our condo, it is still a chunk of change! Also, we wouldn't have all the amentities that we would get at the "old folks home." Ilse: If I lost my PDA, I would have to commit hari kari. Donna: Your dog and undies story is a hoot! See y'all later. I'm off to an ordination this afternoon and then home to crash in the mess! I didn't even unpack last night. I was afraid to stay up too late. Just "winged" my sermons today. Nobody complained, thank the Lord! Peace, Peg

| Whew! The Arts Festival at the church is over. I'd give us 75% for success, and lots of things learned for next year. The weather was glorious, and I only wish it were more predictable, as the whole event would have been lovely outdoors. I'm just glad to be done, and will gladly tackle the "thank you" notes. Tomorrow! Judy, adding my applause to the choice of wedding attire. Gorgeous! Peg, my parents live in a retirement community such as the one you describe, and they are very happy--of course, they are way older than you. They don't have a "meal deal" but someone will come and change a lightbulb if they need it. You can always find children to play with--and the freedom to lock the door and travel is excellent. P. S. I should add that my dad lives in their house, my mom lives in the nursing home. She gets excellent care, and my dad is close by. I've seriously considered the place as a future option. Time to crash at my house, too. Have a good week, everyone. |

| Peg, the retirement community housing sounds like a good deal, especially if it is close to the places you want to be near anyway. One thing to remember, and this isn't really a factor if you do plan to stay for life, is that you can't sell to just anyone. Your market is restricted to those over age 55. After the Baby Boom generation, there is a relative paucity of people coming into that age group for a while. BC, back in the era of Snowy (a kitty with superfine long white hair), I often had to use the edge of a business card to swipe out the cat fur that disabled certain keys. It wasn't all Snowy's fault, as I ate my share of crackers and cookies (pre-LC) over that keyboard, letting crumbs in under the key pads. Compressed air worked pretty well for crumbs, but it didn't do much with the Snowy fur. My keyboards stay much cleaner now, but I sure miss that little Snow-girl. Alida, MOC is a local chain, so you probably came across one on your trip to SF (http://www.maxsworld.com/). During dinner, servers take turns singing bits of opera; but I don't know if they do that in all locations.

| Hey, just a quickie here, since I promised furgirls a ball game...... Peg! Welcome back, we missed ya!!!!! As to the retirement community, right location, it sounds like, and lots of wonderful memories. Frankly, even though I'm officially a geezer myself, I would have a certain hesitancy moving into a community of like geezers after watching a new Del Webb development near here the last few years. There seems to be a certain insularity among the residents there, and a very conservative one at that. So for me, one question to ask is how well a retirement community fits into the community at large. Are the residents who are able interested and active in affairs beyond their gates and able to see beyond their own immediate interests.......ask me again in 10 or 20 years, though TB, aw, I bet you miss Snowy. She sounds like a beautiful kitty. The backspace culprit was indeed food related, though. Looked suspiciously like a very old dried apple seed!! Thank goodness for my backspace key--Peg I positively couldn't handle one that didn't delete. Judy, forgot to mention that your vacation plans sound wonderful. I hope you and DH use the opportunity to really relax, refresh, and see the world with fresh eyes.
