| Thanks "y'all" for the pats on the back. There are lots of people that don't need to be teaching and lots of good teachers that have left the profession for an abundance of reasons. One reason that people leave is that it is a hard job that gets way more criticism than recognition. Most people have to deal with 20 to 25 seperate people each day on their job. We have 20-25 (and sometimes more) every hour or so. Add parents into the mix -- those that micromanage and those that always have a complaint, and it becomes really stressful. However, even ater all that, there are times when you know it was worth it. I just went out to get the mail and had the nicest thank you note from a girl that I taught last fall. I'm a firm believer in "Pay it forward." Maybe the good that I do for someone today will be passed on to someone else in the future. When the boy left yesterday, I told him to go out and do something good for the world, now. Maybe he will. |

| Hi Gang! I'm here!! I've been running all over heck and gone it seems the last two days. Work, while not frantic, was steady tues and wed. Then, yesterday I had to attend a denominational function until noon. I came home and slept for two hours! Then a meeting last night. I fell asleep at 10:00 and slept until 8:00 this morning. I'm a little worried about my lack of energy. Today has been rain free!! Yay!! Though, we have had very little sun. Dark clouds threaten rain, but none yet. I got outside to clean up the garden and plant the pots that I bought plants for last Monday. They look really pretty. Also, the porch and the garden were so full of debris from the Nor'easter that stalled over us for the past three days that it was good to get it cleaned out. I had my hair cut this afternoon too, Bren. I had the roots touched up in red and it looks great. I have red hair with blonde in the front. (All dyed. My real hair is gray) It does give you a lift, huh? I've been eating pretty good this week. But, I just can't give up the wine. (whine) I'll check in later. Peace, Peg

| Hello everyone. Trying to catch up on everyone for the week. We got *slammed* at work this week, so a 3 day weekend is going to be sooooo nice, but boy did we pay for it today and again on Tuesday after the holiday...oye! Judy, you have my respect and admiration. I second the fact I think you go above and beyond your call of duty. I think that kind of devotion is truly a calling, much like Peg's calling. My profession is much the same with the mega criticism and little recognition. Of course trying to please big egos sometimes is more difficult than taking care of a challenging patient...LOL. We DO try though Donna, ...pictures...we want pictures of all your lovely plants!!!! My periwinkles and impatiens FINALLY are starting to perk up after our hot and dry spell! I wish a little of your *green thumb* would osmose to me via the internet...LOL. Barb...woohoo on the arms, lady! I've been doing some work with a resistence band, and some triceps work, but I'm afraid my *bat wings* are still far more flappy than I want...darn it!!!! :( Peg, I saw some weather channel footage on that Nor'easter...man, what a storm! Glad it's moving on out. I bet you ARE ready for :hot: LOL. We could have used some of your rain and cool down here in the plains; we just today got some measurable precip in the rain gauge; one tenth of an inch here at my house, but we'll take it! We are about 6 inches below our normal for this time of year. Could mean water rationing later this summer if we don't recieve some significant rainfall. OK, all you haircut people...you are making me think it's about time I took the plunge again! For lack of finding a cute little perky cut, I have just let my hair grow a bit(shoulder length). I have a few gray hairs that seem to stand up and wave at everybody, but not overly abundant on the gray. I have gone in both directions on the hair color before; deep auburn, and heavily frosted or highlighted. I have not colored for several years but any time now, I could get crazy with a bottle of color; I usually do stuff like that when I'm bored. Alida, Kim, Bren, and all.....hi! Hope everyone has a restful and safe holiday week end! Later, Shelley

| Ah! Lovely Saturday with nothing pressing to do. Barb, think I'll do some shopping, too! Donna, that Toad Lily plant sounds lovely. What a nice gesture! I still have a plant that was from my Mom's funeral in 1984! 95 degrees in BC?? Hope we don't see that in KC until August! We are having a little cool spell. Actually opened the windows last night. Wonderful! Had a little rain, but not enough. Brenda -- how's Khaki doing? Kim -- LOL!! You've got family all over the place! You could travel the US and never have to pay for a hotel room. We Poles are a rather "stay-in-one-place" bunch. All relatives are in Chicago with a small branch in New Jersey and PA. I'm the odd ball that moved to KC! Peg, maybe you're tired just because you are running around so much! Are you taking your supplements? Judy, HI! Hope you can enjoy a few days of rest before starting again on Monday! Shelley, nursing (along with teaching) is definitely a profession that does not get the credit it deserves. You do God's work. I just thought of a friend from high school . . . perhaps because I am writing about nursing and it's Memorial Weekend . . . Pat Matusek. She was one of the eight nurses killed by Richard Speck in Chicago years ago. She was so beautiful, so popular, and so nice. That was a horrible time. On a brighter note . . . I do wish everyone a safe and happy Memorial Day!

| Hi Gang! Waiting for inspiration, so thought I would write. Beautiful day here today!! Woke up to sun, and the temp is already 61 degrees! It is so revitalizing. Received a rug this morning that I ordered at 1:00am on the internet one night this week. It's not the right color and it feels like walking on straw. I'm looking for a runner for my new hardwood floor. This is the second one I've ordered and not liked. Dang! DH is out on the boat. That is his baby. It's only a small 17' outboard, but it putts him around the lake, and it is the only hobby he has. The fishermen are out in force this morning, but all is quiet. The jet skis have not yet begun their terrorizing of the swans, TTL. Idyllic, huh? It's going to be hard to leave this place. We'll never find such a scenic place. I began some cleaning out and putting away yesterday just to see if I could ever get this place ready to sell. Scares me a little. We've only been here 5 years! But, we are both a little sloppy in the closets, so .....well you have already heard about the "bad room." That's our biggest room in the condo for storage. Alida: Yeah. I'm taking my supplements. Nothing changed in my diet or supplements or meds. today I feel better, and yesterday was a good day. So, maybe it was just getting back on Eastern time. DH reminded me last night that we haven't been home a week yet. I suppose that could be it. Shelley: I am so impressed with your attitude toward nursing. It makes you invaluable to the profession. It definitely is a calling. My best friend in CA was a nurse for 25 years, specializing in midwifery and obgyn. She got so angry at the way the maternity ward has become an intensive car unit with all the machines and intervention in the birthing process that she quit and worked for a while at a birthing center with another midwife. She has switched careers now and is very happy. (She's the one who came out in Jan. to help me redecorate) Judy: I can't say enough about what a good teacher you are!!! That young man may surprise you! One of my good friends is a Black professor at the University of Michigan. Her speciality is social work, and her research has centered around how to improve the conditions in the ghettos in Detroit. She regularly testifies before Congress. She was rescued at 8 years old by a teacher, literally out of the basement of the school, in the South, just as integration was beginning. "Where's Edith Lewis," called the teacher from the stairs. My friend answered. The teacher took her upstairs to her classroom and began what was to become a long road in education and then giving back to the profession. She is a real star in education now. When I hear stories like yours and like Edie's, I am aware of how we are all called to look beyond our comfort zones and reach out to the last, the least, and the lost. That is a calling!!! I, too, am a firm believer in "pay it forward." Who knows?? Who knows? Donna: So good to hear from you. You know, we are driving across country North in the Fall. How far are you from the US border? We will be spending Tksgving with our kids in Tacoma. We just love B.C. Took the ferry to the San Juans one year and then to Victoria and B. Gardends. Loved it! Sounds like you are getting pounded with hot weather. I don't envy you (much. I really am looking forward to it!). Kim: Two months in Alaska??? Will you have a computer?? I don't know if I and the other members of your fan club can stand to be away from you that long?? Seriously, it sounds as though you trip will be wonderful. Darlin' enjoy Moon. Enjoy him. BC: What are you doin' this weekend? Can you relax and read or knit? What's your weather like? I hope you are getting some of the sun we are getting. DH said we will have lunch on the boat. It's something we like to do; pack a lunch and just putt out into the middle of our small lake and enjoy the water and eat our lc. I am, of course, working today. Well......except for writing voluminous notes on this thread. Barb: I am so impressed with your arms!!! What work!! Oh how I wish I had that exercise "addiction" that you have. Unfortunately, my "addictions" run to things like chocolate and wine. Dang!

| I've had a pleasant Saturday, beginning with a 50 minute run along the Trolley Trail not far from where I live. Gorgeous morning. Visited my mom at the nursing home, and took my dad out to lunch. Then I went shopping, as planned. Best find--beautiful "basic" pants at Dillard's that actually FIT me! These are called Investments--but not expensive at $30. They come in several cuts and fabrics, and I found a style that actually doesn't gap at the back of the waist. I'm thrilled. Also got a $70 Liz Claiborne dressy all-season sweater for $17. Woo hoo! From the library, I got Jonny Bowden's book "Living the Low Carb Life." It's a great overview, well written. Good for a motivation boost. Now I've put up the American flag, and if it rains tomorrow (as promised) I'll find something relaxing to do indoors. Peg, what's the sermon Sunday? |

everyone,Peg, I've definitely thought about changing professions...looked into dental school a couple of years ago. Then I thought, if I'm going to change, I would just get out of the medical field totally and completely, like your friend. I think my second field of interest would be something in nature or wildlife conservation; possibly photography. I think one reason we saw such a change in how we birth babies in today's society, is the law suits that seem to plague OB docs. You can do everything right and perfect, and give that mom the best care on earth, and still have a bad outcome. And it goes the other way to; there are BAD drs and nurses out there. It's sad and I don't know the answer to fix it. Here in Oklahoma, physician's liability insurance has gone up 85%! One OB doc I know, says her liability insurance will now be well over $150,000 per year! And another OB dr. has stopped delivering babies altogether, and does GYN care only. Anyhoo...you didn't ask for that little rant, did you? Alida, so sorry you lost a friend at the hands of that dreadful Richard Speck. I was very young, but I remember my grandmother being terribly upset over it. That was a unspeakable crime for the times. Bren, how is sweet little Kakhi? How old are your furkids by the way? Have you heard from your cousin? Just wondering if she has *landed* here in OKC yet. I walked outdoors this am. Did 3 miles with 3# weights(dumbells) for a upper body workout as I walked. My arms felt a little *rubbery* when I got home, so we'll see if they are sore in the morning. Maybe next time I will take my resistence band and use it while I walk. I love to walk! I hope it won't be to long until I get back to my previous level of fitness walking; 3 miles in 30-32 minutes. My times are not near that right now, but it has been well over a year since my heel injury side lined me. I'm trying to build back slowly to avoid the heel flaring up again(plantar faciitis). It's sore every morning when I get up, but that's just part of it...blah! Well, like Peg said...where is everyone? Give us the full scoop on your holiday week end I'm totally loving the peace and quite; just a robin singing her little heart out in our tree in the front yard; I can hear her all the way in the house! have a safe weekend everyone! Shelley

| Alida: Oh........I've just gotten in the house from having a shouting match with my madman neighbor. My DH was with me and kept saying quietly, "Peg, please let it go....Peg please let it go." I was thinking that the madman is a little jr high bully, when I realized that he probably is saying the same thing about me tonight! Ha! Oh, my dear DH!! Anger upsets him so. So, the sermon should be on forgiveness, but I'm too mad! See ya, Peg

| Hey gang, just a quickie drive-by.... Thank you all for asking about Khaki....tests yesterday, results next week. I think they are looking for atypical Cushings disease. She still will play a bit, but somehow her demeanor is different, even her facial expression--plus she had an ear infection, which never happens, either. Shell, Khaki is 11; Token is, amazingly, already 5. On the home front, big CRASH about midnight yesterday. I ran through the house to find that a glass shelf in my hutch had broken, sending two shelves worth of stemware and many beloved pieces of Polish pottery to early graves all over the dining room floor and into the kitchen. There are some nice gouges in the floor (yes the new wood one)--Polish pottery being extremely heavy at high velocity. And sadly, broken glass in the furkids toy basket. On the plus side, no one was hurt, neither the stemware or pottery was particularly valuable, the furkids get new toys, and neither DH or I were the first ones to ding the floor :eyes: But what a mess, and just the thing you want to be doing at 1am in the morning, cleaning up glass shards. Now I am eyeing the three other glass shelves in a similar piece that holds my only collection of reasonably "good" stuff, some art glass I've collected, and wondering how my luck is going to hold! Shell, this weekend is moving time for Gwen. She'll be staying with friends for a bit in OKC, and if nothing seems to be panning out there, will be trying the Dallas area, where she also has lots of friends. Shell, maybe it's time for a change of scenery jobwise, but it's sure a shame to lose someone who is good and caring. Barb, congrats on finding the perfect pants. That is wonderful! Donna, what a wonderful, thoughtful gift, to grow that Toad Lily for you. I will have to google that to see what it looks like. I did think of you today when we were at Costco. They had several varieties of the the most amazingly healthy looking Asian lilies Peg, the lake lunch sounds so serene. Yes, we're having some sun! The weather is still cooler than normal, but the sun is delightful. Glad you are having some too, and even more that you are feeling better. Yes, I am knitting that sweater, bit at a time. The "easy" parts of the front and back are done, and now I have to start the "V" of the neckline. If this thing actually fits, I'll eat my needles! However, glutton for punishment that I am, I already have yarn to try a sleeveless shell pattern done on circular needles when this one is finished. Anyway, hope you've been duly inspired by the day, and the sermon is safely tucked in bed Kim, DH is Polish and from Buffalo. What part of NY were you from? Alida, you're Polish, too??? Surrounded!!!!! LOL! Alida, I also remember being so horrified by the Speck case. It was one of those things where I think a little innocence in me died, because I really had no comprehension at the time that such horror could happen. Sadly, Speck's death a few years ago made news here, and everything was revisited. I am so sorry that a friend of yours was one of his victims, or that anyone should have been, for that matter. Judy, hope you're having a good one. Monday will come soon enough! Later, kiddos.

| Oh Brenda, how awful about the glass shelves! Blame it on the Polish pottery, LOL! Seriously, did you figure out what happened? Was it just too much weight on a shelf? And to ding your new floor! Would homeowners insurance cover anything? Poor Khaki. Eleven is still young for a cat. Most of my mother's lived to 18-21 years! I do hope they will find a cause that has a cure . . . . Yup, I'm Polish with a little Russian thrown in. Father's name was Wolczek and mother's name was Novitsky. Now you know why I married a Braden! Kim, if you're going to be gone for two months, you HAVE to get over your hang-up about using your son's computer. We would miss you terribly! One thing I learned when I tried to write from my cousin's computer in Chicago . . . take your log-in info for LCE! Otherwise, you will not be able to post. Barb, perfect pants? How great! And you actually got Bowden's book from the library? I've searched the Johnson County libraries, and they don't have it. I should search for Dr. Phil's book. Maybe they'll have that one. Would rather not BUY two books . . . . Shelley, the med mal insurance costs are horrific. Sometimes doctors/hospitals <may> be at fault, but usually it's just someone seeing a chance to get something for nothing. Too many people do not want to take responsibility for their own actions. And sometimes "sh!t happens" and there's no one to fault. On the above note, remember those people who said their son put some of my blades in his mouth and cut himself? Their check bounced. Bank said the account was closed. I still feel the whole thing was a set-up. Why close a whole account if you want to put a stop payment on a check? Live and learn. We are putting our blades in a little container now. And I check all floors before we leave. Peg, what did your neighbor do to make you so angry? Did I miss something in your post? TB and Ilse: How's the selling/moving going? And Ilse, did you find your PDA? Today I think we are going to Nebraska Furniture Mart (in Kansas) to look for a new small kitchen TV. Tomorrow we may try the zoo to see the new White Tiger that is visiting for a while. Try to slip in a movie, too. Better check the weather before we make plans. Some rain in the forecast. Of course, that doesn't mean it will ~actually~ rain. I watered the lawn/flowers yesterday anyway. Have a GOOD day everyone!

| Quick note: I just finished ordering my skin care from Paula Begoun's web site -- www.cosmeticscop.com . She has a free shipping weekend going on. I noticed she has a line of skin care for Fibromyalgia which is salicyclate-free. Peg, don't you suffer from this? (I apologize for not knowing this!) Anyway, I love her skin care and cosmetics lines! They are reasonably priced, free of perfumes and irritants, and chock full of good stuff for the skin. Her approach is no-nonsense. Her site offers a wealth of information on skin care. Just thought some of you may want to take a look. And Donna, she's based in Seattle, with a click for Canadian customers at the bottom of the page.

| Alida, a quick note about KC Libraries. I use my KC library card online, and I suppose there's a regional capability for Kansas residents as well. I go to the online catalog, choose the book I want, and have it sent to my Waldo branch from wherever they locate it. They send an e-mail when it's been delivered, and I just pick it up there. Very convenient, and free. Amazing. |

| Alida, I use Paula's skin care products, too! I also use some of her cosmetics, but I really do love the skin care products On the floor, our homeowners deductible is very high. It keeps the cost down, but we do eat the occasional boo-boo. LOL, I went the other way with last names, to one unspellable and unpronounceable, even if it's only two syllables....... Barb, we have the same thing with our library system here, and can get a book from anywhere in the suburban Chicago library system with a click of the button. You gotta love it.
