I'm just in for quick fly-by, too. Crazy day with showing the house - at least 14 realtors came through and the realtor tours don't even start until tomorrow. Some came with clients for a second look already. So, that's promising.

I try to stay away while they're showing the house, but I keep coming home to check on the cats or check that the doors are locked. The cats don't look very happy in the kitty condo in the workshop. They all huddle together in one corner. :(

Donna, I bet your yard is marvelous Time and love really do make things grow beautifully and are so good for the spirit, too. I do think plants respond to the heart of the gardener. Thank you for understanding the depth of my kinship with Khaki. She "only" has liver disease, rather than also having some other primary cause of her liver issues, so I'm very grateful right now that we are dealing with something the vet feels is "manageable." Whew... Please call your doc about those places on your leg. No point in taking chances. On another subject, my BIL and SIL owned a convenience store in Buffalo, New York for years and years, so I know how much work it is.

And Judy, for 22 sets of essays as well as for riding the waves of DS's wedding plans. Although Jackson Hole is an amazing area. (And pricey and touristy, but wonderful nevertheless).

TB, sounds like you will have a wealth of offers. I do feel for the kitties--I can't begin to imagine what I'd do with the pupgirls. But with that much activity, you can tell the kitties it should all be over soon.

I am too tired to move, so am just going to fall into bed now!

Donna, LOL. I am almost 59 and I still have some of my stuff in my mother's attic! Both my parents are gone now but my sister still lives in the house.

Have you called the doctor about those red spots?

Still thinking and not doing about flowers in the yard. Still a little too cool. The weather can be crazy here in KC. One day I'll wake up and it will be SUMMER. We will completely miss any Spring!

Judy, 22 essays? What was the topic?
And what is a "destination" wedding? A wedding that is not held in your home town . . . where all the guests have to travel to the wedding?

Have a good one! I have a day to try to clean up my desk a little a do a bunch of pesky details that I have put off . . . like filing warranties!

Default About kefir

I'd read so much about kefir on this site, I decided to try it. Bought a quart of plain kefir at Whole Foods in Overland Park. They had flavored versions as well, which sounded delicious, but looked to be way higher in carbs than the plain. The plain kefir has a tangy taste, like runny yogurt. I've been pouring it in my regular cereal, and over frozen berries. It's healthy stuff, full of friendly "bugs." I'll probably buy it occasionally, but I don't see going into the culture business myself.

And the quick answer to Alida

The essays amount to a set of three questions on each kid's paper. They are about solutions to economic problems and require the student to suggest fiscal or monetary policy to correct problems.... or ... they can be about interest rates, or trade and exchange, or ..... on and on and on. Each question has from 7 to 11 points that the student must cover or draw a graph to properly show the answer.

And yes, a destination wedding is a cross between an elopement and a wedding in the home town. It's one way to have some people there and have it small at the same time. DS worked at one of the big hotels in JH one summer and absolutely fell in love with the place.

WEll, around 8:30 last night, someone called and asked if they could see the house. A few minutes later, they came over and looked around. It was a mom and some of her kids. Her DH was at work. She said she really liked the house and wants hubby to see if.

After work, I drove out to St Charles to go the to office of "For Sale By Owner" The pricing was more than I expected. We are going to continue what we are doing right now. My DH suggested taking some interior pictures and posting them on a Yahoo photo site or a MSN photo site. I have one picture. I have not taken any more, as it was dark when he suggested it.

I ate cake at lunch yesterday, so my day didn't turn out as good as I had hoped. I have a new day today.......

How are you all doing?

Ilse, can't you add your house to the multiple listing service?

Things were going pretty well here until the rain started. We even have thunder, which is very unusual around here. It's supposed to rain for a few days, too. One of two realtors' tours happents today - I'm worried that buyers will not want to venture out.

We thought we fixed the leak in the workshop roof, but water is dripping in And, the mow and blow guy didn't mow the two small areas closest to the entrance. I wasn't here, so I don't know what that's about. Two of the classic things they say about showing a home: mow the lawn and fix the leaks! :(

Well, I'm gonna go see if the old push mower is useable. Hope I don't make a hash of it.

Barb, I tried the WF kefir beverage last year and I liked it, too. It has a slightly effervessant quality.

OK, Barb, next time I'm around Metcalf and 95th (my hairdresser), I'll go over to Whole Foods and buy some plain Kefir. My Wild Oats is near 119th & Metcalf. I'm in that area more often. I'll try that, too. Sounds wonderful on top of berries!

Oh, Judy, I'll bet grading those would be tough! But who knows? Maybe one of your students will solve an economic problem! Send it to Dubya and all the economic brains working for our govt. can slap their heads and say "Why didn't I think of that!"

Gosh, TB, at least it's the workshop roof and not the house! But just to let you know, people DO buy houses with leaky roofs. I know. I did. Arrghh!

Just popped in . . . got to get back to work.

Hi Gang!

I wrote a long post this afternoon and then lost it before I was done. I'm okay, just gone "inside" to think. In a Fibromyalgia flare and pain is a constant companion this week (actually for a few weeks. It just takes me a while to give in). Hands hurt desperately and sciatica hurting. I do take pain meds. ALOT of them. I'm seeing my Dr tomorrow to see if she can adjust them for me. I already take one of the most powerful pain meds, but can only take it in the middle of the day because it keeps me awake if I take it at night. It also makes me really ditzy, so can't drive or work with it "on board." This limits my relief when I need to work. (which I need to do right now)

My buying is completely out of control. I won't even enumerate for you what I have bought the last few days. We leave for California next Thursday for 10 days vacation. I was stocking up on summer clothes and my bf reminded me that "June gloom" is about to strike, and it will probably be cool. We are staying in a time share at Newport Beach, and will be going to DH's 50th college reunion in Redlands next weekend. I got my dress yesterday from Talbots. It's pink linen, long, with a jacket. Has embroidery on the dress and the jacket. So, I've been getting some sweaters too. Still trying to figure out what to take as a wrap. What we wear here in the East in Spring is still too warm for SoCa.

My eating, however, has been pretty good. However, I'm still holding onto the 5 pounds I gained two weeks ago. DH has been home all week and has been cooking good healthy lc food. He also packs my lunch with lc food (I know, I am SPOILED!) I've been able to avoid Dunkin' Donuts except for my morning coffee and haven't done any drive bys this week. I'm feeling pretty guilty for posting here when I'm not doing very well with this woe.

Peace, Peg

Peg, ((((hugs))). No need for guilt. Just the opposite. It's most important to be here when things are the most difficult. We all have or will go through times when staying anywhere near woe will seem impossible. This is where we share where we are, wherever that is, knowing that it is safe and we are among friends. Today maybe it's you having difficulty. This winter it was me, and I'm so grateful that you all were here and welcomed me back. I don't see anyone casting stones here.

Your outfit sounds wonderful. I love Talbots and occasionally imagine myself to be the kind of classy lady who shops there

TB, ack! Rain! Sounds like you are still going to be hoppingly busy :( but I can't imagine a shed leak squelching those hot California bidders

KC, oh yes, leaky roofs. Even our new house (well, it was new 18 years ago) came with a leaky roof, and we actually had to replace the whole dang thing when the house was five years old

Ilse, wow, a viewing already

Strange computer story.

My computer is about 4 years old. Last year, I noticed my CD drive was not working. I still had my DVD drive so I just lived without re-write capability. Finally bought a new CD and went to install it and noticed the CD was disconnected. Duh. Re-connected and voila! Back in business. Month or two later BOTH CD and DVD were not working. Called Gateway. They were puzzled. Could not help me. Tried everything but they were dead. Finally bought an external CD-R/RW and went to install it. Because I still have Win98, I had to load the enclosed driver. But my computer's CD was not working and the new external CD won't work until I load the driver. Catch 22!Called Best Buy. Told me to go to CD site and download driver. Go to site. No driver. Call site. Sorry, no help. Recommend a new computer! Well, I KNOW that! Now get this . . . this AM I am on computer and notice my computer's CD light is on! Put in a disc and it's working. AARRGGHH. Well, I think I'll try loading the driver and hang on to this external drive. It was only $60. If my drives are so tempermental, I'd better keep it because when I do get a new computer, I will have to transfer all my data somehow!

As for eating . . . up 2 pounds today. I don't even want to tell you what I ate yesterday. I went on a sweet binge. All LC sweets, but it was really a binge. That hasn't happened since I started this last July. Luckily, although I OD'd on sugar alcohols, my stomach did not argue too much!

Small job today . . . then my Birthday Weekend! I will be 59. Well, my birthday is Monday but I will take that day off. Sunday (Mom's Day) we are going to the casino. Kids are out of town so we will celebrate MD/birthday next week. Time to plant flowers!

Not too much going on yesterday. I asked some teachers I have worked with to write letters of recommendation. I need three of them, along with a resume, college transcript, application letter to apply at a different school distirct. I drove out there after work yesterday. The school I am applying for is brand new, K-5, and very close to where we will be moving to. Currently, I work at a high school. This new school district office is in their high school buidling. Afterward, I drove out to the new house site, but nothing new has happened this week to our house. They did start putting in foundations across from us.

Well, I have some stuff to look up on-line. Have a wonderful day!.

Alida, hope you win a lot of money so you can run, not walk, to the nearest computer store. Win98 has to be a dinosaur. The meteor is about to strike. Don't wait for the tragedy!

Peg, so sorry about the extreme pain. It's hard to think about anything else when that's going on. New clothes, especially the pink outfit, sound like a wonderful distraction, however.

I succumbed to wine with dinner two nights this week. I usually try to confine my wine-drinking to weekends, so as not to fall into a daily habit. It's really hard when my DH is pouring and says, "You sure you don't want any?" Of course, I'm sure I DO!! It's not the worst transgression, unless it becomes an everyday sort of thing. On the other hand, I found last year, that eliminating wine completely for long periods of time had no effect on a long plateau. So I just stay vigilant. Gotta live our lives!

Happy Friday everyone.

Hi Gang!

Well, went to my Dr. this morning. I still have a deep bruise on my bu** from the fall I took two weeks ago. She pushed on my "sciatic branch" (right in the middle of the bruise) and I went through the ceiling. So, one mystery solved! She had my blood tested for a lack of B12. I take high doses of Nexium for GERD and it can, over time, rob your body of B12. It manifests with a tendency to lose feeling in the nerves in your extremities, as well as aphasia. I thought that these symptoms were "just getting old." I am so jazzed to think that it may be something that can be cured with a B12 shot (or two). She also insisted that I start taking the pain meds when I am at home. So, I am. Also prescribed walking. (I know. I know.) She urged me to take better physical care of myself including massage, pedicures and manicures, and spa treatments. I love this woman!! I told her about the bruise on my bu** hoping that she wouldln't insist on seeing it. You see, I went to the tanning place last week and got a whopping sunburn on my back. She "went bananas" when she saw it. I got a lecture about it. I really needed that (NOT).

TB: I LOVE MY SPANX!!! I wore them all week. I'm with everyone else. I bet you get an offer over what you are asking! It is such an incredible sellers market there.

Alida: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! I hope the weekend is all that you want it to be.

Barb: I am amazed at your will power. Awesome! I am the one pouring the wine for my DH. I do have one glass every evening, before dinner. Then I have water for dinner. I would miss it!

Ilse: Good luck with the selling.

I've lost three pounds!! I was amazed when I got on the scale at the Dr's. I have not been on the scale here for more than a week. Just feeling guilty that I ever let myself gain it. Sheesh! Two more pounds and I will be back to having only 10 pounds left to lose. I think that this not weighing is helpful. Except for the guilt. I think I'll stop that!

Brenda: How absolutely wonderful about the private showing of your jewelry! Have you seen the "Cape Cod" bracelets? They are all the rage up here in Massachusetts. I hope your furkids get you something for Mother's Day. You deserve it for the loving care that you give to them.

I usually start getting anxious about today before Mother's Day. My own daughters have been "spotty" about remembering to get me anything. My stepkids have been quite good. Sigh

Peace, Peg

Happy Birthday, Alida: Hope you have a great weekend and win lots at the casino. Hubby just came back from out of town and told me to expect a few withdrawls from our joint account...he also found a casino. Funny, he didn't have any deposits to make.

Peg: I'm sorry you are hurting. Nothing can dull a day like pain. Your spirit amazes me even when you are having a rough time. I do like your doctors way of thinking though...I wish someone would prescribe manicures, pedicures etc for me. I don't even think about special occassions anymore. I always make sure everyone else has a special day and it hasn't been recriprocated, so now I tell everyone to just forget it, I don't even want it mentioned when it should be my turn. That way I don't have to feel disappointed by ungrateful family. My stepkids have never remembered me...my daughter does, but my son should be given a good smack!! A card would be nice!

I've spent the last two days after work making hanging baskets. I love to putter with flowers. The patio has been transformed. Where it looked cold with cement surrounded by dirt, it's now full of colour. Once the honeysuckle and lilies bloom it's going to be so relaxing not to mention the smell. I ran out of flowers, but not pots, so I guess I'll just have to get more this weekend. I haven't even started on the rest of the yard. Good thing my hubby is the understanding type. I still have my wishing well planter to fill with petunias as well as the planters by the windows. Looks like I'll be busy and out of trouble this weekend.

I'm still within 3 pounds of my goal weight. Some days I think I just might have figured out this woe and I can do this easily for the rest of my life. Then when I think of what I had for lunch (that's usually the hard one for me), I don't think I should live on pepperoni and cheese. Better spend some time figuring out better meals I think. I should be getting my first on-line order of low carb foods any day now. My first bottle of DaVinci syrup. Hmm, now I just have to figure out what to do with it.

Have a great weekend everyone. Happy Mother's Day!!!!
